Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | October 2013 | Ver 2000, Batman and some Angry Birds

Bought Hotline Miami, hadn't really been interested based on pictures and comments, but with the very tempting price in cross-buy sale I watched a video and it seemed I might enjoy it. After the first level it seems good.

There's one at the top of the tule tree, I believe you have to run up the tube to the right. Then there's one in the mountain area which you access with goat fly. Last one is in the forest, you need to use the lever and then goat fly
Fair warning though, two of those have quite difficult platforming sections, you will likely find them more annoying than anything else you have encountered thus far.

Thanks, i found the passage in the three, but vita decided to shut down during the platforming section :\

Imo the problem with guacamelee is not the difficulty of the platforming sections, but its controls, the game uses 5 buttons(L,R, triangle, cross and circle) to make platforming related actions and most of the times you need to use almost all of them in sequence and sometimes even the response is not perfect.
Imo platformers always had simple inputs that never prevented them to have difficult parts.
Another problem is that often if you make a mistake during one of those platforming sections you fall a lot and you need to redo even the platforming before the one where you made a mistake.
Still a good game though.

EDIT:
Top of the page, if you are in eu buy all the games in the cross buy sale! XD
and valhalla knights 3 trololol

So does anyone know when the embargo date is for the batman game on Vita?

I'm curious to try it out but the impressions I've heard haven't been the best and I need some good reviews to invest $40.

Haha. :b
I didn't warn you because
I thought she was pretty easy. Beat her without the Malicious mode by getting to 9999 aura against the clone of yourself then using the fist square square square triangle combo. Of course you can only get one or two combos in before she counter attacks but as long as you keep in her face and dash away every other combo or so to avoid attacks, she might not even have time to summon those multiple clones.

This did not work for me.
Took me forever to get to 9999.
I think I got about 30% life lost before I died.

Do you use a non-standard costume at all? (I've been using the defense up blonde hair one.)

Anyone here planning on getting Gundam Breaker this month? Gundam Build Fighters has got me into Gundam and Gunpla hard and was wondering if anyine else here was going to get it. Really interested to see how much content has been added over the PS3 version and will probably get addicted to grinding parts to build my Gunpla.

Starlight Inception beta is US only for now, so I suppose I could give my voucher to a Vitabro if anyone's interested? It would be a shame to let it go to waste

Ah, the Capcom and Atlus sales are about to disappear in a few hours and I'm still on the fence on some of the games. My running total for the spend50get10 promo is at $57.48 (PS plus being the heavy lifter). Planning on getting that to 100. But the way my indecisiveness is going I won't get anything purchased!

On the fence on:
Kenka Bancho ($7.50)
Yggdra Union ($5)
Hexyz Force ($7.50)
Okami HD ($7)

While next week I'm bagging:
Walking Dead + DLC ($5.50)
RE4 HD maybe ($5.50)

While the prospects on the 'expensive' side are:
Dissidia ($20)
Ys Seven ($15)
Tactics Ogre ($20)
Jeanne d'Arc ($15)
...among others like Ys Oath, VC2, Trails in the Sky, Gungnir, but those are for another time

I'm just wary of a surprise PSP sale next week, and while I want to get them all it would feel 'off' if I spent $150 in digital purchase, I want to keep it down. Anyone willing to give comments on my wishlist to make the decision a bit easier?

Out of that list, the bolded are what I personally recommend. It's a really good list, though. I have just about all the games on that list, and I could easily recommend most of them, but those highlighted are my top choices.

XSeed is doing everything they can to still bring it out in 2013, but seems there might be some things in some part of the localization/publishing process that's still making this aim uncertain.

I just hope we don't have another "Grand Knight"...

Does anyone NOT like Spelunky? Tried the demo a whole heck of a lot and it just isn't clicking. This is coming from someone who usually likes roguelikes and thinks this type of game is right up his alley.

So hard to pull the trigger...

I'm in the camp of not liking it. I played the demo as well, especially after hearing all the gushing praise it gets, but I just don't care much for it. I'm not the biggest platformer fan in the first place. Roguelikes I'm cool with, but Spelunky just didn't do it for me.

y'all crazy

Bit on Kenka Bancho, Yggdra Union, and Hexyz Force. Let go of Okami, since I'm not likely to play it anytime soon given how much I'm hoarding game right now, and I'm 'losing' only $3 by foregoing on the sale and getting it later instead (whereas I'm 'losing' a lot more by passing on the Atlus games).

TWD and RE4 is next. Then a few more and I'm to 100!

The rules here, as far as I'm concerned are as follows:
Vanquish fits in here solely because it's predicated on speed and ridiculously precise input.

I dunno how this game manages to do it, it's lightning fast, but plays well despite being 30. Perhaps it's because it's designed to play at 30 (as opposed to ahem, PS3 Bayonetta). e.g. long-ish windup cues for enemy melee attacks which need not be there at 60 since you can rely more on twitch.

Though of course, it will play better at 60.

I just hope we don't have another "Grand Knight"...
Falcom & XSeed have a solid, proven-to-work partnership, so I doubt any (more) delays will happen, let alone cancelling games altogether. Falcom doesn't have anything coming in the near future, so they aren't going to have any busy crunch periods any time soon, which should mean they should be able spare some staff to help XSeed to help get Ys out.

Wow. I really didn't realize Vanquish was a 30fps game -- knowing platinum, and my extensive playtime, it really felt great. I guess I was so impressed my mind just put it in the 60fps. Chalk that up to a win, like WipEout 2048.

I should add that shmups should be 60fps too. I forgot them in my earlier statement.

Good call on the PSP games -- I realized I bought them all last sale, at least most of the ones $7 and under that looked good to me. I did not bite on the Kenka Bancho though... didn't look like it was my type of game.

For the game OT next month

wasted like 2 mins in this, whoever doing the OT must use it now. (I should do the OT for it but I wont)

Akiba's trip 2 new trailer

Some new info on the new experience dungeon rpg Tokyo New World Record: Operation Abyss
http://www.siliconera.com/2013/10/22/15-year-old-genius-charge-dungeon-crawling-group/

Yesterday i finished the story of guacamelee, i have to say that i have not enjoyed it as much as the rest of you, there were some annoying platforming section and some annoying enemies, imo it felt really linear, almost like a sequence of levels that doesn't lock the access to the previous ones more than a real open metroidvania map.
Anyway the balls unlock an
alternative ending
right? Where do i find them? I have the
one of the chicken labyrinth and the one of the chicken mine, i need three more plus the one for beating calaca

Akiba's Trip 2 look crazy fun, must import.

Yes the Orbs are for the good (real) ending, They are in the secret places with doors/gates that look like faces.

Been eager to buy a Vita for around a month now. I've finally decided to bite the bullet and order one (plus the free Killzone doesn't hurt either) only for the 32GB memory card to be out of stock on Amazon. £40 was the perfect price for it too, everywhere else it's around £60 which is overkill.

Uncertain if I should just get the 16GB card or continue waiting. It's been over a week, but at the same time 16GB probably would not last me long, especially with all the ps+ games and indies I've accumulated over the year.

I bought the stream beta of this. It's seriously bad. One of the worst space combat games I've ever played.

It's actually the only time I asked for my money back on a Steam purchase, and I've eaten the cost of quite a few shit games.

First congrats.

Well... 16gb is just not enough, if you want digital Vita/PSP games on it then it's just too small and only ok if you want to always backup and have retail Vita games, wait for 64GB cards to hit or try to look for other stores that have the 32GB one for cheap.

I would say to only bother with a memory card if it is at LEAST 32GB in size. I have the 16GB memory card and even though I've gone with physical carts only I'm having to swap PSN downloads between my computer and my Vita already.

If the 32GB cards weren't so expensive I'd be upgrading (or waiting for 64GB).

Those PSOne, PSP, and Vita download only games start to add up in size...

EDIT: Wanted to add that some releases in the US are digital only and those can be large (several GB). Also, even physical cart games require very large (1 GB) patches sometimes so do it right and get at least a 32GB. Anything smaller honestly isn't worth the hassle.

*hails toto*

very nice, hope we see more clips of careful platforming levels (like the musical stage they showed) BEFORE release. Nah, actually, I'm good, let the rest be a surprise. Although I'm sure many are less convinced.
Is it possible to die somehow - didn't see any that I remember in the stage they showed off...which to be fair was tutorialish. It doesn't bother me if you can't as I still enjoy platforming gracefully,

Agreed. Then when you add in PS+ freebies... your 16GB card will be full in no time.

Yeah, I believe I'll just wait. Never paid much attention to how much space Vita games take, but was somewhat surprised yesterday to discover indies were 1 GB or more in size. With so many of them being addictive, I can see how a 16GB card would not last long.

It's actually the only time I asked for my money back on a Steam purchase, and I've eaten the cost of quite a few shit games.

I just watched the Starlight Inception E3 trailer, and it really just made me with Starhawk or Colony Wars had gotten Vita versions...

I'm struggling to get through the first hour of tutorials.

It is painful. So very painful. I finally got to the point in the game where I can recruit more people. I've been grinding for a bit, and finally got my Thief up to Level 12, but am still routinely getting my ass kicked by Kobolds of all things. I'd like to say the game improves after the tutorial stage, but I think I'm still in the tutorial stage, and I'm at least 8 hours+ into the game at this point. Lol.

But I can't stop playing. It's been a great time killer on the bus ride to and from work. I think I just really enjoy the setting, and the story, and the PS2 era presentation. It's oddly charming.

You just sold me on this one! Im looking for something like this so i can just put the vita in my pocket and flip it out for 5min to play while im waiting and put it back in my pocket without putting it back in the vita case. Does the vita + the shell fit into a vita hardcase?

I guess it depends on the hard case, but the awesome thing is that you don't really need one. I simply put my clamshelled Vita (with headphones rolled around it) on my pocked and I'm good to go. The thing seems to be even more hermetic than, say, a PSP rigid case; I'm seeing very little dust even entering it when it's closed.

Keep in mind this is coming from a guy that, on his PSP, put a screen protector, then wrapped it in a rigid, clear-plastic shell case, THEN put another screen protector to protect the case.

I have the 16gb one since the d1 and i'm fine with it, you can store lots of games, you have all the time to finish at least one of them before replacing it with a new one imo, not many games are over 1gb.

Imo it was clear since the first time that it was not comparable to great pc space games and maybe that was not its objective, i always considered it like a console-oriented/arcade game.
Is it really that terrible?

Well, Falcom's all-out rush to get Sen no Kiseki out in Japan by it's September 26th date meant that no one could be spared to program the English text into Ys. Now that Sen has wrapped up, things should be good from here on out (as manifested by the first English screens releasing a few days ago).
Aren't they in an all out rush to get that November patch out now though?

Unfortunately, yes. I'm all for any type of space game... from Wing Commander to Colony Wars to X to Elite.

This is just god-awful tripe. Granted, it still is in beta, but they would have to pull off a miracle for this game to be even decent.

A few points-

Controls are awful. There is no sense of inertia at all, and the stick input for the ship is pretty much "push in this direction, ship turns at constant rate in that direction. Let go of stick, ship stops turning instantly". It's hard to explain. It feels like you're moving a camera around and not a star ship.

The models and textures are awful. The explosion FX are terrible. The sound is bad.

The cockpit is a goofy looking static bitmap that is just a screen overlay, with several "instruments" on it that are just there for aesthetics (and look so ridiculous and small, I'm almost positive they aren't just placeholders that will be eventually serve some function post-beta).

I could go on and on. It feels like a student project where the student should probably choose another career than making games.

I highly doubt it this close to the end of the dev cycle

Its a very low budget effort so I am not suprised

The leap into the genre is appreciated. I really really hope we continue to see more Space Sims in the future

I've been using the standard one. No idea how the defense one limits you as I've never used it.
Have you tried just-guarding attacks? It's easy to bait out one of his/her combo attacks at close range, and the projectiles can give you a nice chunk as well.

is the 64 GB card available in US? if not, how can i get one? and will it work on my Vita?

The 64gb card isn't available in the US, however you can import one from here http://www.play-asia.com/playstation-vita-memory-card-64gb-paOS-13-49-en-70-7279.html

It will work on any Vita.

Check your local Gumtree. I got a Vita off there, 3G model, with a 32GB card, 8GB card and a carry case for £150. People sell things for silly low amounts there.
