So wait, you're saying Playstation has no solid, good 1st party games?

Well, okay then I guess.

What do I care, buy what you want, more power to ya.

Some people can't see past retail launch exclusives. Those same people will claim Titanfall as an exclusive in March.

I'd say it was even worse on this topic. After all, the PS3 was a year later and supposed to be far more powerful. GAF as a whole didn't cut it any slack.
Hell at this point if the One is really lacking in capability this much in the 11th before launch the fall out from a delay of say 8-12 months would be less detrimental then sending it out the door as half assed as it appears to me.

Good to see Neogaf committing to the bullshit this far into the game

Xbox One has the power of the cloud and dedicated servers so it will look better.

Don't get so cocky PS4 fanboys.

Edit: Downvotes don't hide the truth piss4 fanboys. Let the hate flow through you.

Threads like this are the reason I love this place (just realized it was my 6 year anniversary 2 days ago).

That said, I'm sure MS will eventually get their shit together. They really need to get their messaging straight. Sony has been very upfront with everything and it's been very beneficial. Crazy how the sides have shifted from last gens launch. It's head to head this year as well. I'm really curious how the sales are going to pan out.

After witnessing this crazy thread I thorght I would see if 720p vs 1080p makes a diference on my tv.

I have my PC hooked up to my 40''1080p tv which I am sat about 8foot from, and when comparing 720p + 1080p screenshots of ryse I could not see any difference at all.

with this cod shot

I was surprised by how much the difference seemed less then when viewing on my 21'' 1650x1050 pc monitor from about 1-2 ft away.On my 40'' its only when the gif changes, and its not so much because of the quality but rather i'am just noticing the pixels moving.

but even though it is a really small difference i have been brainwashed to think 1080p is a big difference and is something I need.

1080p benefit is only noticeable if you have like a 60inch tv and are sitting 8ft from it. On a 50inch tv sitting 8 ft away I cant imagine the benefit of 1080p really being that noticeable.

So you're saying the $500 console that provides visuals that you can't notice are worse than the $400 console means everything is all good? Ok.

I don't get why people are arguing about not noticing 720p vs. 1080p. that's hardly the real issue.

The real issue (theoretically) is that a console that is cheaper and a competitor is pulling off superior overall performance. Especially when this is at launch and there have already been many conversations about how the PS4 is more powerful, this just continues to reinforce that narrative.

Arguing a semantic difference of if you can see the resolution differences on your own TV is totally not the point. The point is the power disparity is (again theoretically) already becoming apparent. That's not a good thing.

What's hilarious is that Most of Microsoft is probably asleep right now and un ware of the shit storm blowing up in their face.

Yes a huge fanboy who owns every console/handheld, sorry I'm not a cool kid xbox hater. Also it's really rich when someone who hates a console, calls someone else a fanboy.

You talking to a guy with 61k GS and 7-8 years sunked into Xbox 360 and Live. I am not blind to facts, if you would ask me which platform I would go before May reveal I would definitely say Xbox. But come on dude, your posts here are filled with fanboy bullshit bordering stupidity.

so slightly off topic but where do you senior members find all these awesome memes and .gif's is their like a archive of all the forums past funny trends somewhere?

On my Panasonic Smart Viera 47" from 6-7 feet away I can easily see the difference.

While playing games anyway. This picture isn't that good of a comparison.

Yeah maybe you can,and when I play wipeout HD it looks the most cleanest looking game I have ever played on the 360 or PS3.

but I bet if you attach you PC to your 47 panny

you could not tell the difference between these to picks based on there resolution alone

I say this because when I scroll in on them they still look the same.

I guess ur right and gaming is the only decent way to see the benifits of 1080p

I really don't understand how Microsoft could build a tablet as amazing as the Surface 2(seriously, it's amazing) and seemingly fail so hard at making a console that actually works? I think a lot of this is just fluff. This just seems unreal that Microsoft could fail so hard.

I am sure it will work fine after some kinks are ironed out. They just put the focus less on building the console around gaming than Sony did and it will have less performance in that area as a result. Hell, I love some of the exclusives they are showing, but I'm not paying $500 for a weaker system just to play them. If anything, it needs a nice price drop for what they are offering. It will be a much more attractive prospect then.

yup. NeoGAF massacred the PS3 in the first two years. As soon as that price was announced, dark skies formed around Sony's head. Plus there was a delay, the arrogant PR. Oh, Sony got straight reamed.

Selective memory from some posters because they forget NeoGAF is way, WAY bigger than it was back when PS3 came out and so any reaction is amplified 10 fold now.

Ami you were here, you have to admit the PS3 fans never seem to be hurting or dissuaded. I can count on one hand the people still here who sticks their neck out for the 180 but PS3 fans were loud, cocky and numerous coming off of the PS2 success. They never blinked an eye and instead went to "you get what you pay for" and "wait for___insert game__". Discussions went on as usual because, really, who could stop that train? Sure, jokes were made and even actual factual points were called out, all drowned out by sheer numbers and enthusiasm. Yes, Sony tool their lumps back then but the parallels end at the fact that the companies fucked up. Being a PS3 fan in those days were nothing at all like supporting the 180 today. It's hilariously bad for those kids and outside of a board just for Xbox (shudder) I don't really know where they can go to discuss the 180 without constant trolling and prodding. They just don't have the numbers to win.

I wouldn't write off the controller if that's your issue - everyone including many long time Xbox fans are singing nothing but praises for the Dual Shock 4. A few Xbox fanboys even said they were jumping ship from Xbox 360 preference controller to Dual Shock 4 preference.

I haven't played it yet so I can't speak to it, but it may just be that you finally have a PlayStation controller that isn't markedly inferior to the competition.

I've been reading a lot of that. It's not even that I "disliked" the PS3 controller, as I had a PS3 also, I just felt that the XBOX 360 controller was close to perfect. I rocked and rolled on the NES controller after all, and that was a marvel in design right?

I'm not pre-ordering at this point, which is ludicrous to me as I have always been an early adopter, I'm going to see how things shake out.

I honestly thought new consoles should have came out like 2 years ago, as our boxes were aging, but now considering the fact that 8 years after the XBOX launch, the XBOX One can't manage to crank our more than 720p on COD potentially just seems ridiculous to me.

Completely unrelated to what I said. Console power has never determined the sales leader for a generation, especially early on. The PSone, the PS2 and the Wii were all demonstrably less capable pieces of hardware than their direct competitors, but it was the library and the marketing behind them that mattered. The vast majority of the consumer base, the people who make COD the megahit it is and who will flock to one system or the other to put it over the top sales-wise, wouldn't be able to tell the difference if you held a gun to their head.

It only matters to hardcore enthusiasts like the people who post here and the console warrior subset of said hardcore enthusiasts. It's a pretty big thing (if true) as far as that goes, yes, but there are a lot of posts treating it as though it's some kind of silver bullet to the heart of the Xbone and that's simply not the case.

False, both the PSONE and the PS2 were technically more advanced than any other console at time of release up to at least a year. Wii is the only example you have, and considering how much of a fad it was, it seems like it's going to remain as the exception. Unless Dreamcast counts, a system without support from the likes of EA and that got murdered by a hype machine that was built around superior graphics.

And it's fine to play the "people are ignorant" card, but the thing about ignorant people is that not always they surround themselves with equally ignorant people.

Did you quote the wrong person? I'm trying to understand what Sony's great 1st party has to do with whether or not Halo 5 will look nice.

He was saying that Xbox One would magically make Native 1080p games without compromises & such. That's all.

We didn't make up these rumors, more reliable sources did. And all consoles are "rushed" in some way, but this isn't a situation of "rushed". This is a situation of underestimating how much processing power next gen would carry and how much money Sony, who is in a dire financial situation, was able to devote to providing a powerful gaming console. In comparison, XBO looks extremely rushed and game spec reductions within a month from launch is not just a simple "oh the console is rushed and we should be lenient". Not when the cheaper competition is getting games out at 1080p.

What's hilarious is that Xbox fanboys assumed that Microsoft would have the most powerful console due to Microsoft having "more money than Sony," but what they fail to realize is that Microsoft's shareholders/investors are onto the Xbox brand more harshly than before because it's not making them big bucks & that Microsoft just can't spend an infinite amount of money just to cater towards the Xbox brand.

Not only that, but they also assumed that because "Sony's Poor & don't have any money," that Sony won't be able to make a more powerful console at all. Well, they were wrong, & it all blew up in their faces.

The real issue (theoretically) is that a console that is cheaper and a competitor is pulling off superior overall performance. Especially when this is at launch and there have already been many conversations about how the PS4 is more powerful, this just continues to reinforce that narrative.
And I thought the narrative and common sense implied that we wouldn't see any big differences at launch, since all of those games are rushed and built from an assumption of 4GB RAM among other things.

For one title to show so much difference at launch seems like a loud, persistent canary in the coal mine.

Oh my god I did it.

I caught up to the leading edge of this thread.

Goodnight GAF. Thank you for one of the most memorable threads I have ever seen.

You cannot hide from the numbers. That is the simple fact of the matter.

The numbers at the start of the 360/PS3 generation had both consoles very close or superior to the PC's at the time. So games like Gears of War were new territory for most people. They looked fantastic.

The stuff that will come for the X1 will not look anything close to a high end PC, and as numbers do not lie, the bandwidth limitation of that pultry .. pathetic ... OMG HOW COULD THEY 67GB/s main memory bandwidth is just too big of a bottleneck to overcome. Especially when you have an 8 core 1.8Ghz processor at the helm of it all.

8 years later and we might have a 3x ( and actually, bandwidth wise it is just 3x )jump from 360 to X1 for 500$. That my friends, is what you can disappointment.

Please tell me how my posts are fanboy posts, also why are people calling me a fanboy if they're in a thread about the xbox, hating on the xbox. Yet somehow I'm the fanboy, just really amazing stuff. Then everyone wonders oh why is neogaf being called bias. Lets keep believing rumors and hating on xbox, and calling those who defend it fanboys. Just keep it up.

This began rumbling before noon today. MS knows and MS knew this would happen. Why else would Activision forcibly prevent PS4 and Xbox One comparisons at their press event today? MS wants to stave it off as long as they can.

These pics are from videos, no?

Do you have any screenshot from the same game in 1080p and 720p with png format (not the bad jpeg) to share?

I will make the same test in my D8000 51".

if you're saying PS3 fanboys were more determined, all you're saying is Xbox fanboys are not as determined. Maybe that's an indication Microsoft messed up even more than Sony did by comparison? ;P

I mean, my reaction to both was the same - I didn't get a PS3 for many years after the debacle, even though I was a core Ps2 gamer. This time around, I probably won't get an XBO for several years even though I was a core 360 gamer.

But as far as I saw back then, I can't agree with your assessment. yes, it was easier to have a conversation without getting "disheartened", but that's because NeoGAF is way, way bigger than it was before. A single post can be drowned out in twelve negative ones in a second now. That would have happened back then too had NeoGAF been this large during the PS3 debacle, but it wasn't.

Unfortunately for Xbox fans, and I say this with genuine sympathy, they are going to have to take it on the chin for a year or two and just deal with the swamping negativity because Microsoft has earned this and it's going to take a while for them to build back their trust. Just like Sony earned gamers ire after 2006 and it took years for trust to be fully regained (and they almost lost it all again with the hacking scandal).

If you stretch that 720p picture to the same size as the 1080p picture on a 47" TV, guess which one would come out blurrier?

My guess is, since there was also a rumor that MS developing tools weren't as mature as the PS4 tools, plus being weaker, they decided to focus on looking as close as possible to the PS4 games visually by sacrificing resolution, after all, the average gamer won't care about it IMO. I think they will sort it out eventually but and make the gap smaller than it seems to be now.

Wow, I notice something right away... the 720p one looks way better! The textures are much warmer.

No personal attack, but man people need to get a bit more inventive with their use of gifs instead of recycling the same 2 ones all the time. So many to choose from...
I expect nothing but the highest quality from GAF in this regard.

What you talkin' bout, Willis? That is a great gif. It puts all of Gaf's greatness into a single image.

Well everybody knows like Microsoft a lot, I'm just annoyed by the piss poor messaging they're sending out. Granted, I will enjoy my Xbox 1 even if I raise an angry fist lol. Though I will be getting a PS4 a lot sooner than I waited to get a PS3 this gen.

So you're saying the $500 console that provides visuals that you can't notice are worse than the $400 console means everything is all good? Ok.

Yes I am, as you can clearly see in that post you quoted.....

(and just so there is no confusion i am being sarcastic)

This is just great. So I can either have the games I like (Halo, Forza, Killer Instinct) or the more powerful system that is $100 cheaper.

I prefer the XBOX

- Controller
- Games (titles, not resolutions)
- XBOX Live
- OS

I prefer the PS

- Graphics Capabilities
- Price

Don't mean to jump on the "ditto" train but I think this bears repeating. This is exactly how I feel right now, and its been getting more and more difficult for me to support the idea of buying the console that has the overall infrastructure that I prefer.

I don't even give a shit about the supposed "bad will" that Microsoft seems to have engendered in so many. A DRM program that wasn't nearly as insidious as many acted and was fairly similar to the PC side, a higher price point, and a mandatory kinect. Alright-none of the above are things that I love, but they aren't dealbreakers.

But barely being able to push out first-gen ports above 720p shows either an alarming lack of power or an alarming lack of developer acumen.

You gotta be trolling. The comparison only works if you pick a native 720p screenshot and upscale it to 1080p and then compare it to the same scene but native 1080p. I can't even begin to understand the logic beyond your comparison. It's sort of mind blowing actually.

What? It takes 3 popular gifs and combines them into one. After that, it's upload onto the cloud which makes it 300% more awesome!
