Leave the kid alone, he's a beta buying the system cause his friends want one. I convinced my friends to jump ship and go playstation, but not everyone is as alpha.

The cognitive dissonance in this thread is too much. Brand loyality must really suck.
First gen has an OLED. New ones (only out in Japan at the moment) are LCD.
The new model uses an LCD instead.

Evidently literally Blind for those who can't see the difference between the two resolutions. When I built a PC last year, 1080 gaming was a revelation, and yep, I'm also running it to the TV in the lounge via HDMI. For all the IQ talk, what Full HD gives you is a solidity of image.

It was actually what MS said when they announced the 360 lol. They also denied that 1080p would be possible until Sony released the PS3, and then suddenly they invented 'Parity' (upscaled 720p). Luckily it looked quite nice on their game covers 1080p. And to this day people still don't understand how they were conned. Something tells me they're going to continue the tradition next gen.

He said one of his reasons to upgrade was better graphics in Xbox one, in a previous comment he said graphics don't matter as long as Titanfall gameplay is good.
Titanfall will play in X360 just like Xbox One.

Devil's advocate: Wouldn't the X1 show greater leaps as the generation carries on since it's much harder to maximize because of the ESRAM whereas the PS4 is easier to develop for, thus easier to max?

720p is the perfect resolution to play games. Beefy graphics, 60FPS, AA enabled, Vsync on. Why get an inferior experience at 1080P where devs might dumb down certain settings to make the game run at that resolution?

Lets say that does happen later on PS3...big woop. By then we will be playing Halo 5, COD 10. BAM!
If you mean 1080P in general, like I said, its gonna be dumbed down experience. You need some balance in there to enjoy the games at its full potential.

What you've provided here is a false dichotomy. Some games will make these tradeoffs based on IQ or scale, but Titanfall doesn't look like it should have to, and CoD reportedly doesn't make these tradeoffs on PS4.
I fully expect 1080p Titanfall on PS4 in a year. Edit: It's on Source Engine for crying out loud.
This is just an indefensibly dumb thing to say.
I know it's hard to tell who's being serious and who's messing around these days. This is not one of the former

Basically, graphics conveniently matter up until the very limit of your console of choice, in which case everything above that is unnecessary and nitpicky.
You could also play it at 1080p on PC day one...

isn't it?!?! I fully thought 1080p on high settings would be the standard for next gen. I just hope PS4 will achieve this from year 2 onward.. Right now I believe we have 1080p on medium with the PS4 but devs will get better.

Well said. Graphics do matter whether people want to admit it or not, otherwise they'd still be playing with a NES or PS1. There are plenty of great games on those systems that can still be enjoyed today. It's all about the games right? As long as the game is fun, graphics don't matter right? Next gen certainly isn't for you, your current console of choice should be all you need, plenty to play and plenty of 720p.
I guess I am one of those picky people that just love 1080p and am looking forward to 4k so it matters to me.
Honestly can say I've never seen anyone trying to downplay graphics in the day of PS2/Xbox/GC. Only time I remember graphics coming up was when people were arguing about RE4 looking better on GC than PS2.

Yep, I'm sure we all have stories of friends coming out with gems like, "My 360 is running all my games in 1080!" Sigh, what can you do? FWIW I always make the time to explain this perception problem, but honestly, a lot of people just can't grasp it. "But it is 1080!"
I can recall the 360 had a 720p/2xAA mandate. That was soon dropped.
I'm gob smacked that 8 years later, that may finally be a reality.
Now of course, the console will have some 1080p titles. And maybe MS can sort ouf the esram in the SDK so it takes care of itself. Maybe in a year or two they will iron out the issues. As many here have discussed though, this is their own doing, for pursuing their corporate agenda ahead of their users. That "must do social everthing with kinect!" 8gig DDR3 mentality will haunt them forever, and may just get them out of the gaming business for good.
Sony should change their game package to say Rendered At 1080p.
