Rumor: Titanfall also 720p?

Can you repost? I didn't read the words "for the same experiences " in the post I quoted.
I can't believe I'm actually doing this... but here goes.
Loving the gameplay>graphics posts.

I can do you one better, and it doesn't require in engaging in total self-delusion: gameplay + graphics > gameplay. They're not mutually exclusive; stop using that argument when 95% of the games will be on both. Crazy mental gymnastics up in here--would win the Olympic event.

Graphics have always been important. They were likely important to even you disingenuous posters before you found out that your console of choice would have a deficit in that area. That argument has been dishonest as long as I can remember.

I have now bolded, italicized, and underlined the previously bolded part of my post.

And in what world would better graphics be undesirable when the upgrade comes at no cost to gameplay? Nonsense.

I know some people say they do not care about the resolution, but if this winds up being true, I personally liken it to owning a BluRay player and a TV capable of 1080p native, and only being able to watch regular DVD's on the BluRay player.
Sure, the BluRay player itself may have a decent upscaler in it, so it will output 1080p, that still does not change the fact it is not native 1080p.
Also sure, the most important part is the movie itself, is it a good movie, but if it could look better, why should it not?

We need a next-gen version of this image:

This is getting seriously out of hand.

I made it just for you:

Don't care. The fact I can instantly swap between playing this. A movie, or TV or even switch to another game instantly still has me sold on Xbox. As much as many on GAF wanna downplay the other functions of the Xbox one. They are pretty fucking cool.

I'm amazed that people are defending 720p. I have been gaming at 1080p since 2010, and will be moving to 4K in 1-2 years. Sooner if 4K monitors get cheaper than $1000.

People will defend anything. I've been using higher than 720p in games for over a decade, the idea that people are happy with the thought of using it for another eight years is laughable. Of course I don't know why I'm surprised, when DVD were announced there were people claiming they were unnecessary, same with Blu-Ray, and my grandmother swore up and down she would never buy an HD tv...her tube tv was "good enough". Eventually she came around, like all these people will. The problem is you can't upgrade an Xbone, you're stuck with a sub-optimal resolution for the foreseeable future, which means the rest of us get to look forward to a decade of people telling us how awesome 720p is. Next-gen my ass.

Dudebros cant tell the difference between 720p and 1080p. Unless you tel them theres a difference

That is crazy. It's like saying you can't tell the difference between a DVD and a blu-ray playing a movie on a 1080p TV unless you're told. Simply not the case.

it is always the case for all my friends and family sadly....

I once sat them down. I had two TV sets, one playing on SD channel, the other the HD version of the same channel. They could not tell the difference. All they noticed was that the image no longer had the black bars on the side during the SD content! :(

Edit: Also, before you think I'm a weirdo, I was doing this because they wanted to know whether they should get HD Cable, so I wanted to show them the difference.

You know, you're right in a way at least. :) I do remember that my mom and a few others said the same thing at first. However, after they watched a few movies/tv shows over a few days they came back to me and were telling me how it was odd that some channels were kind of "fuzzy" and some of the movies were kind of fuzzy too. Maybe in some cases it's a change that needs time to sink in? I dunno...I always assumed before that it was just people who didn't want to admit the change made a difference for some reason. Like anti-tech. Not so sure now.

I wonder how uncomfortable EA is with the Microsoft Xbox One backlash. March release sounds great and all, but I wonder if the PS4 port will hit sometime in November. Hmmm
I was also thinking, 6 months. Asking EA to give up holiday sales for that game for PS3/PS4 seems like it would be asking too much, at a certain point you need an unreasonably large moneyhat to make up for the lost sales on other platforms.

It always works when you go backwards. Like when I bought an HD-DVD player back when it came out, my friend and I watched a movie. It looked fantastic, but it didn't feel "that" much better than upconverted DVD's. That was until we finished that movie and then popped in a DVD and saw the fuzzy mess that was before us.

Same with HDTV. Get someone watching nothing but HD channels for awhile then switch to one of those really fuzzy SD channels and they can tell the difference. You've got to get their eyes adjusted to pure HD then show them the SD and you have to be blind not to be able to tell.

Might be the same with this. I play 720p games all the time, but if my eyes got used to 1080p games, then suddenly it drops back to 720p, I'd probably notice.

But a dudebro just wanting to plug his game system in and play? I guess he won't notice. But personally I'm not buying a game system based on how other people will perceive it, only based on what I want out of a game system for the price.

So you just ignore the 5% of bombass games exclusive to each platform to make your point?

what...are you talking about? when I bought an HDtv and got hd broadcasts i noticed the huge difference right away. same when i change my resolution on pc games.

the key is that there is opportunity to compare. so called 'dude-bros' who only play on x1 will not see a ps4 version to compare to.

I'm talking about ways to get those people who say "I can't tell the difference" to really see it. That's all. I was not at all saying that it was the only way normal people will be able to see the difference.

oh, ok. I think the people saying "I can't tell the difference" are being a bit disingenuous though

Is it disingenuous? I don't know if you were around when Dragona Akehi was a mod, but I am pretty sure I used to see her say she could not tell the difference between SD and HD resolutions most of the time.

Some people just aren't as good observers about stuff like that. As I said with my family, I did a side by side thing and they still couldn't tell :(

I can swap to TV instantly even now, without even owning any next generation console: What magic is this? A remote? You won't be switching between different games "instantly", the PS4 has supsend functionality as well.

The Xbone just lacks powerful unique selling propositions, this "instant switching" stuff just seems so forced by their marketing department recognizing this fact.

personally framerate is more important to me than resolution. 720p @ 60fps is better than 1080p @ 30fps imo.

I'll second the posts about the majority not seeing the difference. most of my family wouldn't spot the difference and although my gamer friends might be able to see it it wouldn't matter a lot to them.

if I end up getting titanfall i'll be running it in 1080p @ 60fps on my PC though

No way it's 1080p native on PS4. Upscaling? Sure. I'll wait for the pixel counters.

I can't, but I have a shit TV / monitor.

Do you honestly think that it is more demanding than Killzone Multiplayer? which is 1080/60.

Also when it is released for PS4 it will be developed with more mature tools and without the moving goalposts that Killzone had to deal with, Killzone was developed for 4gb Ram up until the February reveal.

I'm not saying it definitely will be 1080, but it would not be surprising if it was. Not at all.

well guys, just a reminder:

In the pursuit of 60fps, something has to give way though - and it usually comes to light when looking too closely. It's the uncanny facial animations during NPC briefings, the rough-looking textures on Titan interiors and billboards, and what seem like scaling artifacts that betray either Titanfall's early development status, or its commitment to being about gameplay first, appearances second. The jaggies are a curious point in particular; even judged by the high quality feed we have availability direct from the Microsoft E3 conference there's more sub-pixel shimmering and rough edges than any other game on show, which suggests this may not be a full-blown 1080p title in its current state. From what Respawn has announced so far, the 60fps bullet-point is proudly announced, but it remains tight-lipped on what native resolution is intended for the final game.

You aren't required to jump with precise timings, track targets or react to on screen prompts in films. It's hardly a like for like comparison.

People jump with 'precise timings', and react to onscreen prompts, all the time at the cinema.

This is too funny...

Those three guys in front are in the Xbone queue, everybody else is waiting while they take the photo, then they can get to Cinnabon.
