I do not like FF10 overall. I loathe the story, I loathe the mini games, I loathe the linearity. But it has the Sphere Grid and a great party/combat system. So I'm not sure where it slots in... :\
12 rules, and I don't know why anyone would judge the game based on Vaan considering you never have to use him. That was one of the best parts. It would have made 10 not belong to brain-damage tier if you could have sidelined Tidus the whole time.
12 > 9 > 4> 6 > 1 for nostalgia's sake > I don't care about 7 anymore > who cares about the rest > 10 is stupid.
Is it still about a whiny teen who also happens to be the world's greatest underwater dodgeball player in a world where underwater dodgeball is the most popular and only sport and whose dad is a child-abusing giant flying whale that is also dead? And also a super underwater dodgeball player?
Because if so, that's still the dumbest story ever not in a Metal Gear game.
Downloaded the Destiny of Spirits beta with my NA key but can't do anything with it. It's just a title screen for now. Forum says the beta ends the 31st.
Personally, I used to hate IX, but I re-visted it last summer with a open mind and I ended up enjoying it. Still not one of my favorites though, but it was a wonderful game. Opinions change over time.

I haven't played X since 2002 or so.
I can *guarantee* that I will still dislike every character not named Lulu (and possibly Rikku). I can still tell you I don't like walking in a straight line from A to B.
And I can tell you I will still hate Blitzball.
I'm pretty sure my opinions of FF games won't really change much.
Funny side note: I loved MQ back in the day.
I know all the games.
I just don't recognize the Amano artwork for some of them.
And FF6 doesn't belong anywhere near the top as far as I'm concerned. It's not even the best SNES FF game.
Posted this in the Destiny if Spirits thread already, but I'd love a beta code if anyone has an extra.
Also, is anyone getting Batman for certain tomorrow? I'd definitely love some impressions on the level design and gadgets and such. The metroidvania basics, if you will.

just picked up batman (i live in the future, it's friday in aus already ) wont get around to it for a little while but ill put up some comments later on
So jelly, wanted Toro or Kuro, too but only got that ugly dog ;(
Finally the Americans are popping up, need some to trade with to obtain different spirits.
Game is ok, I can see trying to get all spirits being a thing. The UI could be a little bit more polished and faster.
The F2P scheme is hopefully not too restrictive. Already had to wait a little bit to continue playing, which isn't that bad. Didn't have any stone drops though, which work as the currency and are used to repair your spirits etc. They are also needed to summon stronger spirits.
If stones are completely behind the paywall, then the stronger spirits are also behind it. This would be unacceptable for me.
damn Wipeout got boring fast...good graphics as all but just too repetitive and no rewards...
Im glad it was on PSN Plus for free. I was about to buy it
Hotline Miami is pretty fun and hard....lots of restarts. I dont get the story though but whatever, fun gameplay
Probably getting a Vita on Black Friday. I really like the OLED screen of the 1000 but was planning to get the newer model due to the better battery life. Unfortunately it doesn't seem like we're going to get the 2000 so soon, so I'm probably just going to snatch up an original one in a month.
I do very few PSN purchases but PS+ should be the only distinction. They stopped sending me Weekly Updates on July 11, a Rachet ad on July 15, and a Killzone Early Access email on Aug 17, which was the last email I've gotten.
Maybe I'll get one late else it'll just be another for the list of promotions I'm excluded from for seemingly no reason. Wish I could just go to the PS+ Store section and grab it, I don't get their obsession with broken email promotions :x
Never got your PM, although I did get a code from the other topic for the game.
That said..my download for it freezes at 169MB every time. Wiped the memory card, then wiped the MC + Vita, still freezing at 169. Anybody know a solution? :/

+ As said before, the presentation is fantastic. Native resolution, solid framerate, smooth transitions between rooms, great atmosphere... even if the game takes place in one place, each location still manages to feel distinct, and while the Vita lacks 3D, the camerawork is still appreciated. Voice actors do a good job with what little they have to work with and the music isn't exactly memorable, but it works well in the heat of the moment.
+ Gear gating works nicely. You have to do a fair bit of backtracking to each area, but thanks to the new gadgets you'll be able to open new shortcuts and paths to upgrades, which prevents it from being tedious.
+ Similarly, the area layouts can get dense at times. Metroidvanias are becoming more and more commonplace nowadays, but that feeling of "Alright, which way?" will never get old. That said, sometimes graphics are a little too busy and they can obscure air duct entrances, which might be even worse on 3DS. Hint:
There's no need to backtrack after defeating Grundy
.
+ Some people will probably find the bosses frustrating, but I'd still argue they're a highlight. Other than
Catwoman/Bronze Tiger
they're all unique and represent the only times you're likely to see the game over screen. In particular,
the Penguin's Freeze-like stealth sequence and Black Mask's point-and-click "fight" were among the series' best bosses. Not the highest of praise, but still, they're good
+ There are actual puzzles at some points. It's nothing too fancy, but it adds variety.
+ The hacking mini-game treads that fine line between "annoying mini-game" and "what's the point of even having this?" well. It's quick, it gets a little more complex with each new security code and it doesn't pop up too often.
- I think by far the biggest issue with the game is that it's EXTREMELY easy. I'm not going to pretend the console games were Ghost 'n' Goblins, but even leaving aside the fact that the AI was more aggressive, Blackgate doesn't have the enemy progression its brethren do. You have the fodder, the knife and taser guys (and very rarely do you ever see these two together or more than one at the same time), but that's it for the entire game. Add to that Batman's responsiveness, and enemies are little more than a waste of time. Things get more interesting during bosses, but it's not enough.
- All of that extends to predator sequences, and it's even worse there. They're very far apart, it only goes up to four enemies at a time at best (when Batman can destroy two armed men with ease here) and just like with combat, what you see is what you get. No takedowns from above or other skills that you don't have from the beginning, no detective mode jammers, no suicide collars, nada. It's too bad, because one of the bosses actually does try to push the envelope and it's intense, but also a one-off.
- Optional upgrades are unexciting. You've got several physical power-ups like health or extra damage, which are completely worthless, batsuits (each of which requires five different pick-ups) and hidden items around the backgrounds which serve as side-quests and unlock concept art. There's nothing here quite like finding those first life/missile tanks in a Metroid game, but at least figuring out how to reach some of them is fun.
- Likewise, the new gear you find through the game is not much better, but to be fair it's not really their fault. The problem is that anybody familiar with this series will figure out almost the entire gear tree from barely playing ten-fifteen minutes:
it's pretty much Asylum's, Gel Launcher, Line Launcher, stronger decryption...
. You do get a couple of new twists for some gadgets, but they only come to play towards the end of the game, and there's very little new here otherwise.
- It can take time to get used to how the map works, but I guess a normal map wouldn't have worked well with all the background/foreground stuff.
- Of all the things from the Metroid Prime series to take inspiration from, the pre-ending fetch quest probably shouldn't have been one of them. It's not too terrible, though.
-
Arkham Batman just can't catch a break, it seems. We just can't go an entire game without someone outsmarting him, haha.
Finally, the infamous length . I think one extra area/main enemy would have been perfect, but to be honest I didn't really feel that shortchanged. It's probably similar in volume of content to Shadow Complex, perhaps even a little more, so that's a good measure stick. All in all, while perhaps not long/hard enough for a full price purchase, it's still worth a playthrough, especially for people who liked Asylum more than City, and more so if that budget price HD downloadable release ends up happening next year. Certainly a good effort from Armature.
Finally the Americans are popping up, need some to trade with to obtain different spirits.

From what I see, it'll be restrictive. You can only trade Spirits from Superior Summoning to another Spirit with Superior Summoning. The good thing is that you can always switch between spirits if you want to fight more (so yeah, use your Destiny Orb for more Spirit Capacity).
Destiny Orbs are only given away in CBT since the shop isn't available. (CBT will have a data wipeout at the end).
So unless they give me some sort of significant "Free Daily/Weekly Destiny Orb due to PS+ membership", I think I'll just kick this one out of the bucket.
It fucking needs button controls. Touch-only control makes me rank it -7 out of 5 stars.
It seems that the more bosses (the big ones) you beat, the more are added to "can be summoned" list.
Initial summon list are short.
DoS Asia
Summoning:
48 overall Spirits
3 Common of each element
2 Uncommon of each
2 Rare of each
1 Super Rare of each
1 Light element per rarity
1 Dark element per rarity
I have 49 total since I beat Kyuubi no Kitsune (Rare - Fire),
Superior Summoning:
21 overall
1 element per rarity except Common (7 elements x 3 Rarity)
Not counting "bosses", and assuming each region has same number of spirits, that means 210 spirits.
Well, I can't get Hunting/GPS to work, so I am not sure of those Spirits obtained there are completely different. (Ninja Edit: I saw Zhuge Liang as a "Hunt" origin spirit and he's in normal summoning. So I guess there's no Hunt exclusive Spirit?)
I'm a sucker for myth and folklore. So why aren't there some sort of profile/background info on each Spirit?

I can't tell if your avatar is Ange or Eva-Beatrice. Probably Eva-Beatrive. You can't go wrong with either one. I expect some really good sales on Black Friday. Keep us posted.
So I'm hearing that Lego Marvel is kinda bad... Each level is supposedly timed and takes about 5 minutes? Has anyone played it? Was really looking forward to playing this on the Vita, but they keep nerfing the Vita versions. I hate that they lump the Vita ports in with the 3DS/DS ports when I'm sure the Vita can handle a damn Lego game...
Well, crap. I bought Carnage Heart EXA when it showed up on EU PSN but it doesn't appear in the content manager copy menu, I guess it's not Vita compatible? Probably should've been reading the store description more closely... Can't check that now because I'm copying some other PS+ games to the Vita ATM so both systems are blocked.
I think they're generally rather unreliable, I know I had to set aiming to toggle in Killzone because sometimes it didn't register the button holding properly. Seems like it's a bit sensitive to where exactly you push on those big triggers.
Welcome to my nightmare, and yes mine are sometimes unresponsive, I will be picking up the 2k for trigger intensive games or hold out for a 3k if it ever makes it that far.
Oh according to XSeed, no current plans to release VK3 in Aus/NZ and probably for any other releases, as they are still trying to establish themselves here. Sometimes I hate myself for sticking with my AU PSN. I guess I can import from NA though.
If they ever allow region switching, I'm choosing a EU country.

Much appreciated, man. Been waiting for a code all day to arrive in my mailbox but no dice. If SCEA are still sending out, I'll post it up if I do get one.
Got Newscaster Toro for my allowance! While I hadn't thought of it until now, I'm guessing the 'global' nature of the game means that any events will either be applicable to everyone, or worst-case region based events will be traded for? Neat.

If I didn't know better, you would have just sold me on a game.
I'm still torn over whether to relive my nostalgic high school years playing FFX on Vita (I enjoyed it, but never finished it), or diving into something new entirely like Persona 4... Do we have a date for FFX yet?
It's different. People hate changes. So it was trashed xD. Funny thing is that now that it's like 8 years old or so everyone seems to love it. IMO it added a couple of really good ideas to the formula, but it had its own flaws.

Vaan is considered the MC. It's like "Tidus" in a way he is more like an espectator than the force that drives the party, but Vaan still does less than him. I guess people want an stronger main characters, but I think it was kinda refreshing.
I'm guessing the DoS Beta will be wiped at the end?

Played some Batman, impressions are in the OT.
I feel like some smaller details weren't handled well because of the 3DS. Nothing big like the graphics or so but no multitouch on the map for zooming, no free aim of gadgets and no backtouch use. Instead, they go for a big in your face 3D presentation :/
Close to purchasing hotline Miami, especially with the sale price. But feels like it might be a plus game soon for the EU store.
And the refresh of the two annual plus games can't be too far away. Hmmmm.
and I was going to try not buying anymore games til the PS4 launches
Pixel Junk Shooter getting a PC release. The rest shouldn't be too far behind, I'd imagine.
Port by DoubleEleven who did Pixel Junk Monsters Ultimate HD for PC & Vita, Limbo for Vita, working Frozen Synapse Tactics for Vita, and worked on LBPV.
I absolutely love the Pixel Junk Shooter games, so I'm hoping this is the stars aligning for PC builds that can scale down easily onto Vita.
