Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 3: Ridley's Believe It or Not!

I followed the Dojo updates like a fiend every single day like you guys are now with these daily images. It tainted my Brawl experience; nothing felt fresh or new anymore to me.

Some of you have become bitter and entitled regarding these images and I sure as hell hope it's some kind of irony joke or an in-joke between you guys. If it is, please let me know. Seeing your reactions to these images constantly deflates my hype and makes me regret opening this thread. It's why I rarely even post here. Most of my posts here have been negative and I apologize for that, but I wasn't expecting SmashGAF to be like this at all. Sure hope it's different near release so I can feel inclined to join the hype.

This update wasn't as bad with you guys, but some have been extremely negative and deflating.

Edit: given the post below me, I'm now assuming it's a joke between all of you
I know this is hard to believe, but there were people that actually liked the Dojo format the way it was, and didn't care about things getting spoiled (Especially because any unlockable characters or stages were hidden behind spoilers that you had to click). The Dojo used to be like a daily Nintendo wiki entry, and to people who enjoyed that this format is boring.

Really now? I wonder how some people get by on games with NO constant updates :P

I am not asking for constant updates, I'm askin for regular and just enough updates to keep my interest in the game. But I think many would agree that our expectations are being played with in a quite underwhelming way, that is pretty unlikeable.

No offense, but it sound like you are entitled gamer who expected new information about weekly. Sakurai specially told us that we shouldn't expect a lot of new information from daily images if I remembered it correctly. Also I'm pretty sure that Sakurai don't want to do Dojo because he don't want us to know too much about the game before we play the game since I'm pretty sure that he read the backlashes from Japanese that they know too much before the game got released so as the result, they were disappointed with the contents and surprise when they unlocked everything. I think we wouldn't get spoiled that much for Smash 4 since I have a feeling that Sakurai learned his lessons this time with Brawl Dojo.

I am not asking for Dojo or for having the game completely spoiled. I like the idea of having room for surprise when I have the game, but you can still deliver that with more meaningfull updates and comments to keep the interest in the game, wich is what all of this is all about. Deliver new nice info in a regular way about minor things, some eventual character reveal. But having silly closeups week after week is not interesting, insightfull and does not help to keep my interest in the game. I take some time everyday to check this stuff out but even it it's a couple minutes everyday I don't feel that it's worth it because I never see any info coming along and it's making all this backfire.

Mario and Luigi, just the sound of them makes me queasy.
I'm... surprised I know what you're referencing.

Not really. Other than maybe character reveals, this is just something Sakurai does, and has done during the previous games. He's just releasing it to the public this time. He said as much when this all started.

EDIT: Also anyone who is constantly checking these is buying the game any way, so I don't think keeping interest a year before release really matters.

That's on you, it's like a daily journal of progress on the game, not anything else.

I'd rather have this than nothing at all.

I understand that but you have to remember that they just revealed 3 characters in two weeks and half span so we will have a information drought for awhile until they catching up with some kind of schedule or something. I'm pretty sure that they would kept us exciting when we are getting close to release date. However we are nowhere close to release date.

I love when Smash thread rises to my parodies of it.

What parodies? I missed something?

I hope no one here actually keeps count of the number of pics from now on.

Slow day? Post Miiverse gold.

While that person was completely off on spelling. He did have good intentions and just wanted to tell Sakurai to hang in there.

You wanna see a true poorly handled mascot? Someone who had only stuck his foot into the game only to get thrown under a bunch of dudebro shooters?

You know, I'll never understand why people loved this game so much. It was an okay platformer, but the art direction was so weird, and the sound effects and music made me cringe as a kid and still is the soundtrack of my nightmares to this day, I feel like it's just so ... absolutely overhyped. I dunno. :/

My feelings exactly. But, you know "dat Rare".

I never understood people who don't like being spoiled on content based games. i can understand stories and puzzles but content? If I got brawl without the dojo I would still be pissed with it, the problem was that they didn't handle hidden characters well. A hidden Lucas, Pit and Dedede would have been better than a hidden Falco, Falcon and Ness.

I would have been so pissed with X and Y if I did not go to the spoiler thread, bought the game and found out it lacked content. So pissed I most likely would have detroyed the games in rage after finishing them.

Showing all you get in the product before release helps you get adjusted to dissapointment and deal with it. I think if things were truly leak proof, companies would get much worse backlash for shittty content. You never want to give a customer a shitty surprise.

What other game posts DAILY SCREENSHOTS this early before launch? Most games you get a tiny trailer maybe every 3-6 months and then more frequently as it nears launch. You might get some press dumps of a dozen or so screenshots every few months as well. Be happy we're not sitting here in the dark, wondering when the next update will be. We know when the next update is, it's ever weekday. It's like opening a present every morning! Even though it may not be the greatest present, there's always the HOPE for a great present, so it keeps you coming back. Be happy we're getting anything at all.

They just want to be surprised by the content in the game, to discover it all by themselves like in the good ol' days, why is that hard to understand?

Well, I understand your point and you are right on most of them. Actually, I would rather to have Olimar, Pit, Lucas and Dedede as secret characters but no, we got like 70% of secret characters that are returning veterans. It was disappointing for me but I still love game for whatever it is. That's why I hope that Sakurai would learn this time and go with most of returning characters as starting characters and leave most of newcomers as secret characters.

I went on black out with X and Y, and I heard rumor about 70 pokemons so I took it as warning that it might be disappointing so I went with very low expectation so I'm definitely not disappointed with X and Y. I just beat the game last night with satisfaction.

I would be shocked if Sakurai would gave us shitty contents again but I hopefully doubt it.

Exactly. It still took us long time to get updates on Ultra Street Fighter 4, and we finally got one yesterday. I'm still waiting for 5th character. I'm glad that Marvel vs. Capcom and Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 were not bad. It was easy to predicted when they would release the information at the events. They usually release the trailers at mostly Comic Con and game events. Also the leaks actually helped most of us. It would be a huge meltdown when people found out that we are not getting Mega Man and Frank West for Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 at later date.

Lol people are getting angry over something sakurai clearly explained wasn't going to be a constant news source of everything smash?

I'd honestly just have more of the same we have now with a trinkle here and there then a dojo. Better than nothin at all!

People got spoiled by the Dojo. I'd rather have something more like the Dojo, but this doesn't bother me and it is definitely better than nothing.

I would attribute the dailies to a prize capsule vendor, where you're putting in the coins (expectations), hoping to get the "prize" but you keep getting doubles or non-rare prizes. I think, with this format, when you finally do get something special-- it feels a lot more special.

Set realistic expectations, and you'd have nothing to get upset over and be genuinely surprised in the end.

I told you all it'd be nothing...

Thanks, I was just about to rehost that before I saw you already had.

It was photoshopped, so can you provide original one please?

I think the real question here is:
Is Luigi still going to be unlockable or available off the bat?

Many questions have been raised ever since Toon Link and Luigi got announced.

1. Would most of returning secret characters become starter characters to open the path for more newcomers as secret characters?
2. Would Sakurai dropped the concept of unlocking the characters and had ALL characters available at start, just like SSF4 and UMVC3?
3. Would Sakurai announced obvious characters and leave them as unlockable characters?

No offense, but if you look back, every even numbered generation has been more of an expansion where a bunch of pre-evos and evos are introduced. If you don't coun those in gen 2 or 4, their numbers of new pokemon is lower than gen 6. If you count the MEvos, the number of pokemon in gen 6 is typical

I hope not on 2. I quite enjoy unlocking characters. I do hope that at least some of the newcomers are secret, as in, I don't know the full roster before release. Obviously, with the likes of big name 3rd party characters (Sonic, Megaman, Snake) it would make more sense to reveal those before release. But for other newcomers, I think it'd be cool to discover those ourselves. Like

None taken, but remember this. Some people were so sure that we are getting pre-evo and evolution of old pokemon due to Slyveon.

Same here. I want all revealed characters to be starter characters, NAMELY Sonic, Mega Man, and third party characters. Unlocking secret characters are so awesome as opening christmas presents.

And we did. Mega Evolutions gave new life to a bunch of old Pokemon that nobody would've paid attention to before (Kangaskhan, Pinsir, Ampharos...). They might not be "true" evolutions but they're just as much work to make, balance and design.

Just because they didn't give them a new Pokedex number and a brand new movepool doesn't mean they put no work into them. All the mega Pokemon have new animations, a bunch of them have unique abilities with new mechanics and a lot of them had their standard movepools revamped to accommodate for their new mega forms.

Looking at other forums for short time, people are speculating that we are getting newcomers trailer on next Direct which could come to us next week or later. They speculated that we would get Little Mac and Mii soon than we would expected because next month would mark the anniversary of Little Mac (Nov 21) and Mii (Nov 19) and Wii Sport Clubs is coming out in two weeks or so.

I'm curious what yall think about the speculations.

I'm fine with that actually. From what I see, people aren't.

Crap! I'm far too late with the 101 jokes. It would be really scrafty of Sakurai to set us up like that. He is really playing on peoples expectations to the extreme and I like it. Ultimately I will have the game and no amount of spoiling or useless pictures will ruin that 3 years from now when I'm having Smash parties and playing through tournies.
