PS4 Ghosts is confirmed 1080p, and BF4 is rumored @1080ps

Should put "720p" on that iceberg

If CBOAT ever spills publicly what s/he shared via PM regarding a myriad of other technical issues going on right now...

I'm going right back in that shelter and welding it shut.

Oh my... That's it. I'm done. I'm going to ask all my friends to hold off on an xbox one purchase till this gets straightened out, if ever. I hate making decisions on rumors, but this is far too damning to just ignore and invest in blind faith. I'm not getting one for a while, but I've been recommending it for those more keen on kinect and TV. Now there seems to be no point rushing into that decision. Let them get past these bumps, whatever they are.

Exactly. And when stuff came out in terms of a new one, Sony was all 'we're not going first'.

Then they drop Feb 20. And they come right out with the specs out the asshole

yeah, beautiful trap

Yep. The PS Meeting completely changed the industry.

And this becomes all the more funny...

When this generation is said and done, the story behind the PS4/Xbone is going to be one for the ages. I don't want to sound like a hardcore Sony Pony, but the way Sony played MS coming into E3 just makes me smile. Does that make me a bad person?

I'd seriously avoid getting the Xbox One at launch, in light of today's news and indications there are more megatons to follow soon.

nah, i cant convince my friends (and myself, i really want to play ki and cimson dragon) to cancel their pre-orders based on rumor/leak/whatever. i "thrust" cboat, but i want more information before i drive my friends crazy.

Ok, I'm almost caught up with the thread. I feel like I missed something because I never heard of CBOAT until clicking on this thread. He obviously leaked something... Is a/he a GAF'er? Someone give me some context!

CBOAT is a "fake" account in that no one knows who it is. But he/she has a nearly spotless track record on leaking stuff.
If CBOAT says it, bet on it being true.

Eh, Windows 8 criticisms are usually quite exaggerated. It's not an amazing OS by any means, but it hasn't had critical problems that I've run into.

I've yet to see a Window 8 criticism that wasn't actually a Metro criticism. The OS is fine, the window manager they stuck on top of it, not so much.

Cant be true, he spelt it right, right?

Pretty sure he is saying 'F cat'... dude hates cats man. :-)

Some of these GAF threads are nuts, didn't think boarding could be so fun. Amazing revelation, thanks CBOAT. Confirms everything for me, I reckon this all started with Kinect. Xbox division was doing its own thing, quite well in fact (I loved it anyway). Then some MS execs see's Wii on the news and concludes motion gaming and casual gaming was the way to go so started meddling with Xbox. Downhill ever since, when this story comes out it will be fascinating.

You know KI is 720p too right?

unfortunately that's true but I've been waiting for a new KI for so long and DH has done such a good job on this one too. Yes it's not 1080p which is crazy but I'm so diehard looking for KI, that I'm willing to spend 500 on it (360, 480, 720, etc).

Basically MS already has my money b/c of my love for KI but if it wasn't in the launch, I would EASILY pass on the bone as there is no reason to get it when 3rd parties are obviously better on ps4.

People have to remember that mods and CBoaT can't really give out too much info. It could cause tons of problems for everyone.

Understandable, but unfortunate. Not being informed about significant problems could also cause problems for those getting ready to lay down $500+ for this thing.

Sony just needs to make sure the message spreads to the average consumer to seal the deal. Although..the hardcore are well informed and will probably prefer the ps4 as it will most likely be the best console to play 80% of titles (multiplats) while the casual consumers will be allured by the lower price.

Of course, if MS starts to agressively undercut them, while spreading FUD, the average consumer might be swayed. In November things will become more clear and we will see the importance the average consumer places on resolutions..

Most people did also since Sony has no money .
I think people need to remember that MS has a huge amount of cash but that does not equal the xbox division having it .
Add in suit making problems with the xbox division and here we are .

THIS. Sony's financial problems made people believe they could not afford to make the PS4 competitive hardware-wise to whatever MS would release. I definitely remember that that sentiment was pervasive prior to 2013.

You don't need hdmi to get 1080p

You need HDMI to get 1080p on the 360, it wouldn't do 1080p unless it went through HDMI. Component only went up to 1080i or 720p

I don't think you can get 1080p through a console on a TV with component.

Dude, they f**king ninja'ed them. Kaz Hirai in action. The best part is he faked them out in an interviewed with The Times where he said he would never launch before MS.

Kaz's fake out

Then they go and announce in Feb. That's proper console warfare right there.
The IGN article is exactly 10 days before they announced the PS meeting. So sneaky lol

I've yet to see a Window 8 criticism that wasn't actually a Metro criticism. The OS is fine, the window manager they stuck on top of it, not so much.

True. The only time I see the metro interface is when I go to my calendar or when I accidentally hit my Windows key. You can pretty much steer clear from it on a PC if need be on 8.1.

here's my 2 cents.

CBOAT is saying that MS is having technical problems with their system, more worrying and potentially damaging than CoD and BF4 being 720p.

Some people are speculating its problems with the OS. And we know that the X1 already allocates 3GB of their GPU for the OS.

What if they are needing more than that 3GB for the OS, and that's why games have less to work with, hence 720p?

this would mean less hardware for the software to work with, for the entire generation.

Sorry, that's not it. The OS doesn't take up 3GB at the moment - it's that size for future-proofing.

Also, it's the ESRAM that is most at fault for sub-1080p resolutions. You can easily render at 1080p with 512MB of RAM as long as the throughput is fast.

I'm sure glad I canceled my Xbone pre-order. I decided to cancel it prior to the COD 720p bomb the other day. Simply because I couldn't be arsed to pay that much for a system when 99% of the games I buy in a single year are third party plats. But holy hell. From an investment stand point, I don't even know how Xbox fans can buy this at launch.

At this point I'd say they're in a worse position than PS3 was at launch. PS3 didn't have that mega bad PR of DRM behind it, the performance problems for cross plat games are no where near as pronounced as this need to change resolution, and Sony enjoys a lot more Japanese loyalty than Microsoft's American loyalty.

The only thing the One can say over the PS3 is it's only $100 more expensive instead of $200, and Titanfall.

The thing with PS3 though is that Sony didn't really have that clear policy reversal like Microsoft did with the DRM and such. They kept at it for a couple years, if memory serves. It was a rough ship to sail.

When this generation is said and done, the story behind the PS4/Xbone is going to be one for the ages. I don't want to sound like a hardcore Sony Pony, but the way Sony played MS coming into E3 just makes me smile. Does that make me a bad person?

Eh, not really. It was a fucking crazy gambit for them to pull. They had to know Microsoft's new direction too because otherwise it's a wash.

And honestly, I just love the craziness surrounding this generation. It's the first generation in the real Twitter era, so things like this can come to light and catch fire way quicker. It's extremely interesting.

Also, I bet the One will normalize and find a spot, but I don't know if that happens now or later.

Ridiculous! Did this have anything to do with Don Mattrick leaving? The whole thing has been sugar coated and buried, but it's all starting to make sense. There must have been a lot of internal conflict, even before the reveal!

EDIT:
Also, is this the first word CBOAT has typed without scrambling it like my breakfast this morning?

THIS. Sony's financial problems made people believe they could not afford to make the PS4 competitive hardware-wise to whatever MS would release. I definitely remember that that sentiment was pervasive prior to 2013.

Well, they proved you can make a powerful machine (by console standards) without breaking the bank. You just have to focus your budget on what really matters, instead of multi million nfl deals and a stupid camera no one cares about. If they had took the budget placed on kinect and used it on better hardware, they wouldn't be in this situation.

No, because I also fucking love it. The Adam Orth ordeal, the questionable reveal, followed by the detailed DRM explanation and poor E3 showing makes me smile. Then you have this and the tears just start pouring out.

Andrew House was definitely about to cry at one point during the end.

If it wasn't for KI, I would totally pass on the bone. Not having 1080p while the competitor does is unbelievably lazy and disappointing. How in the HELL does this happen?

But 1080p is a moving target. The xbone is perfectly capable of running native 1080p games. It's just that it can't run native 1080p games that are doing all the other things devs are wanting to do on the PS4 (or PC, I guess).

Resolution and framerate are two things that are very easily changed between versions of a game, so when one machine is noticeably more powerful than another these are the areas where you expect differences (also AA). This is just like how the PS3 often had a noticeably worse framerate than the 360 in multiplatform games. What you're saying here is that the xbone not being just about as capable as the PS4 is "lazy and disappointing". And, I don't know, maybe MS screwed up somewhere along the way, but their ability to hit 1080p consistently was always going to depend on what Sony was doing and on what devs were interested in using scarce system resources for.

People saying Don left because he saw shit going badly is nuts. Don steered the ship into iceberg. He's not a passenger on the Fuckship LOLipop.

Yeah people really underestimated Sony. Even i did...i thought ms would make the most poweful box and money hat most.third party games...

More like Don Mattrick left because of he knew it was a sinking ship, and the only way to redeem himself is to jump into another sinking ship that has already sunk so he won't get blamed for it.

I've always cared MUCH more about achievements, had many more friends on 360, and preferred nearly everything on the 360 from the controller to the interface to the Live functionality. That's why I never played a multiplatform game on PS3 (excepting PS+ freebies).

I'm really surprised to find myself leaning heavily towards PS4 for multiplatform games at this point. We have now officially crossed the tipping point with this latest news.
