Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | October 2013 | Ver 2000, Batman and some Angry Birds

What the hell is invizimals

Augmented Reality based monster battling game aimed at children. Apparently it's a pretty big IP in Portugal and Spain. Total franchise sales over 3 games on PSP surpassed 1.5 million, and Panini sold 20 million stickers. There's even a TV show that will begin broadcast later this year.

Companion app?

Only Vita release from them recently as I recall was the gimped MoHu MMO

A companion app is basically a second screen experience. The main game is on PS3, or PS4 with some bonus content viewable on Vita.

As for Capcom, their last release was Street Fighter X Tekken over a year ago. They have Dragon's Dogma Quest, Monster Hunter Frontier G, and Dustforce in the pipeline for Vita.

Gamers interested in Vita would be interested in nextgen and it's that season*. Money is also tight. Infamous and Borderlands 2 are good picks I think. Forgotten IPs are fantastic for fans but won't do much for third party nor sales imo...People don't give a shit about Sony characters of before, take a look at the PSASBR sequel :'( Ape Escape would be pretty though.

Spot on about shelling out for a GTA.

*So I'm not really expecting any more big announcements for a while.

I hope next year we get NFS and CoD showing up again.

Of course theres the pricing for the hardware, etc, but the main reason is that they need those tryed and true franchises to build an audience first, not just unknown games, hoping some of them stick, thats why Nintendo is sucessful with their handhelds, they have the franchises and do something with them in the first place, and thats why 3rd party goes to them.

If only that could apply to the WiiU

Anyway, Sony handhelds will always attract that "unknown games" (VNs, lewd games, indies, etc) crowd. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but I want the Vita to be something more that I can play on steam or something that looks likes that was ripped off from some low budget doujin comic. The PSP had a chance for well established franchises to prosper on handhelds (GTA, Ape Escape, etc) but sadly it just didn't work out in their favor.

That's I'm hoping hard that FFX vita will succeed well on the Vita. And not because I will loose that bet with another gaf member, or I will look like a bigger fool when my "deluded" predictions flop, but I believe that if FFX manages to have respectable numbers (in SE's eyes), SE will give the Vita a fair shots, and hopefully other major Japanese 3rd party devs will follow suit.

If FFX does so well on Vita that it convinces SE to actually release games on the platform, that means for the immediate future more ports, and in six years from now some cool games no one will play.

It's taken them more than two years to release some PS2 ports ...

Probably like 10 people working on that slowly...nextgen won't affect Japan much right?

Hmm :(

Maybe they'll realise FF's place in the handheld (non-ios) world and shift gears. Otherwise what has been taking up all their energy? They can't be that inefficient. The online games maybe? Maybe FFXV is mind-blowing...

Honestly, at this point I just want more Square support on either the Vita or 3DS.

The stuff they put out on their predecessors were top notch (TWEWY, FF 4HoL, Tactics A2, Dissidia, Type-0, Crisis Core, etc)

I'm surprised that they are even putting out FFX on the Vita.

They seem to be giving the 3DS some love which is nice for me (like theatrhythm, bravely, dq) but if Ninty ain't gonna shell out for localization, they are gonna be stuck in Japan.

Or maybe, I shouldn't be so reliant on Square to provide me entertainment.

Someone has to make those phone games.

Someone has to make those phone games.

Yeah they've been busy, forgot about Lighting Returns as well.

Seems like there's a lot of interest in the FF ports on Vita and I bet their PS1 game sales went up again since the Vita since people have to actually pay for them.

Not many other games to fill that void currently or on the horizon. P4G has spread already. They can't let that franchise overtake theirs or something.

Double platinums, baby. Oooo, it feels so good.

Feels even better that I can let out some precious memory card space (3.3 gigs worth!)

Now to decide my next game: Altier Totori Plus or Disgaea 3? Help me choose gaf. Length is not a factor.

If we're playing the wishing game, Sony would buy the rights to Crash Bandicoot back, put him as the mascot again and start by licensing the Crash games for play on NA Vitas and follow with a mind-numbingly awesome game in the vein of Crash 1-3 exclusively on the Vita.

Atelier is supposedly an easy platinum.
Disgaea 3 is a grindathon you could play forever, especially if you're going to go for platinum.

Crash is too old school I think, I just hope the US gets it eventually, the originals are very nice on Vita.

How is Angry Birds Star Wars not included in that retail AB game that just came out for an arm and a leg. -_- Talk about milking it. I can resist but lame.

I don't mind if their efforts on Vita for the next couple of years are ports. Games like FFX/X-2, FFXII (if FFX sells well), Type-0 and such are ports that most console owners would kill to have.

SE made the mistake of announcing FFX way to early, but I reckon they did so to acknowledge FFX's 10th anniversary, and they didn't actually start working on them until much later on.

About the long time they took for this.

- Iirc, SE has a team of only a few people working on these remasters.
- This is a true remaster. Most of the textures and character models have been completely redone, and the OST has been remastered as well.
- These are two very long games.
- don't forget these games are coming to two platforms, Vita and PS3, which I'm sure has its technical difficulties.

But after seeing the screens and trailers they've released, I am glad they took this long. The games look fantastic and it looks a lot of care has been put in these remasters.

Can anyone who has both the Asia (HK) PSN and JP PSN chime in?

Been wondering if its worth it for me to open a JP PSN to use as my demo account instead of the HK as it seems like still a lot of JP demos don't make it to the asia psn
(Mainly want to try out the Ys demo out as I haven't been able to find it on any of my other psn accounts)

Only drawback is that I don't really know how to read Japanese, though I can usually get the gist because of kanji that is in common with Chinese characters. Completely clueless when it comes to hiragana and katakana.
That, and this would be my 4th PSN account and I don't really feel like having to manage 4 accounts especially with the terrible account switching on Vita.

Tearaway looks amazing. I must pick it up.

It really does

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KKnXo_-FlDk

In case you missed it (I spammed it twice already recently), it shows a lot of gameplay, the guy has a preview build - also shows character customization. Explains that you unlock the ability to jump later on. Worth a watch definitely. I'm going to watch it again.

It's incredible! Look at the colours and the huge levels. It's the modern age Mario 64. Imagine a kid getting this for christmas and using his fingers to lift a log infront of his character. His face being the sun in the game.
Unlocking stickers to make your character how you like and take instagrams of him and the world. Cutting out the in-game objects and setting up a display, making them for the game world. Sony better market the fuck out of this, it's THE christmas gift for kids imo.

Dad can have the Vita afterwards for his PS4.

I'm going to make a thread.
SHIELDS ON.

Okay maybe tomorrow, too much effort - nah did it :P

Definitely looking forward to them as well after seeing the trailers and I would love to play XII on Vita, mine is still sealed lol.

So I managed to get up to A class in 2048 with all elite passes without any steering assist but I hit my limit so I put it on for the last stretch. Does that make me a cheater?

Steering assist makes the game harder for me. It always messes up my control at the high speeds.

Because (1) Tearaway is an N64 game, so it won't be available digitally on PSN and (2) because the US store doesn't do pre-orders for Vita.

I would take the large majority of that list you have up there and pool the money together for something else. I platinumed Velocity Ultra and I only feel good about that because I "won" it from PSNStores.com. Flying Cloud God would make a good filler if you're $3.50 short of going to $50 or more.... the rest... definitely not my jam.

I can't fit TWD Vita on my card yet, but I'd be more likely to recommend that than Atomic Ninjas or Bentley's Hackpack.

I just had to buy $10 calling credit to call Nippon-Yasan.com.
Let me say this about them:
(1) The customer rep spoke amazing english!
(2) The customer rep was very courteous and nice to me. My call dropped because I ran out of credit for International calling and had to figure out what the best way to proceed with calling back was. When I called back, I got the same rep, he remembered me and was seemingly putting in effort to get the information I needed while I was off the phone with him and he was nicely trying to end the call quickly to save me $.
(3) The customer rep was very helpful. I found out that if you put in the tracking number in USPS after it's hit customs, you can see your tracking there. Seems I might have my card sooner than I thought. It's out of the airport as of last Friday:

very nice to hear of your positive experience with Nippon-Yasan!
I should have purchased it from them :/

hmmm...
Tearaway won't be digital? that's a mega mega bummer.

Corrosive was making a joke about N64 games being on PSN. Tearaway will be available on the PlayStation Store.

I need to be around more often :/ I'm not getting the jokes anymore.

hmm is it worth it to pay full price for anything currently?
maybe Batman?
one of the Totori/Meruru games?

Hahaha, yeah, I was channeling my inner Toto. Hell, Toto made that N64 image for it a few pages back.

no. :)

What do you mean with Crash being 'old school' if you don't mind me asking?

I personally want a Platformer on the Vita that I could enjoy as much as I had fun playing SUper Mario 3D Land on the 3DS, but all I keep seeing coming is either:
Otaku pandering jRPGs
MonHun Clones
Indies (not a biggy, but they're mostly 2D Platformers, I want a 3D-ish Platformer already)

I'm still getting Tearaway though.

man. I didn't know EDF would be part of this promotion :/

hmm Corpse Party and TWD are still on sale yet
the two Corpse Party games are 9.99 each

Looking at my running total, I see that I've only bought sale items with the exception of new release Malicious Rebirth.
Otherwise, everything was on sale.
DMC HD, Kung Fu Rabbit, EDF, etc.

I may break that rule tomorrow, as I decide on Rayman Legends (WHERE'S MY PATCH, UBISOFT?!), Mirror of Fate HD, and a few other games.

Tearaway will be it hopefully.

Crash isn't charming anymore - only to people with nostalgia for him - even if that is a lot of people, when they go back to play it - the game is punishing, it's just the way he moves and how constricted the levels are and the obstacles in his way. It's not fun for kids anymore who will be the main target with a character designed like him, unless they gave the game a larger world with interconnected typical crash bits...and more adult humour and focused on us instead. That's asking for a lot though I think - since crash is in skylanders or something kiddish as just another thing.

Wow, just found out you could close live screen areas and any other tab of that type by holding O

It doesn't work on the home screen though. Was so close to being completely fingerprint free ( ´Д`)

I've done goofed...
I can't believe I missed
Kung Fu Rabbit
EDF
when they were on sale :/

and this Spend $50, Get $10 back has been around since late September :/

Hmm
1- Adult humor is not something I find fits in with the series. Crash Bandicoot aimed to reflect the Looney Tunes feel, and it did that really well.

2- A new Crash game based on their traditional PSX system can still work for a new game on say the Vita. In fac the structure of the games in 2 and 3 are perfect for playing for a few minutes, then taking a break.

3- Maybe it is the nostolgia speaking, but Crash 3 at least isn't that hard, so long as you're not rushing it and taking your time you can beat it with ease. Controlling Crash is fine for the most part with the analog, as I've been playing it recently and Crash controlled fine for me for the most part.

Stick with it! 2048 was my first Wipeout since 2097 and I thought I hit my limit around the A class elite passes. Now all I have left is three elite passes and i'm done, then to move on to the fury and hd expansions.
