be honest, you were getting it anyway weren't you?
We both know the answer to that.

The lighting is different because the clouds in the PS4 version. PS4 is cloudy and has softer lighting. XBONE is less cloudy and has harsher lighting.

Thank you
Yes. These are from the correctly calibrated capture cards that DICE themselves handed out to journalists.
Dark10x, who works for DF, mentioned that they used there own capture equipment and that they did not have time to properly calibrate it. So their captures are not exactly representative of the actual output on both consoles.

I don't get it, so we'll continue to use DF as a reliable source after this? What they did is pretty big IMO.
Great comparison pics, thanks.
Digital Fuckery just shit the bed on this comparison. Probably one of their most anticipated articles ever and it's just a complete shitstorm. Epic fail on their parts.
Let me fix that for you:
But the differences we saw don't just stop at resolution. Both versions are treated to post-processing anti-aliasing too, seemingly equivalent to the refined, high setting on PC. However, this doesn't tell the whole story. As you may notice in our screengrabs, the actual results on PS4 lack the corresponding level of crystal clarity we'd expect of such a significant resolution boost. This should surely be a home run for Sony's console, but what is likely to be a software-based upscale to 1080p delivers less-than-stellar returns, and for better or worse leaves the Xbox One with an often crisper looking, albeit much more aliased image.

Yup I was surprised by the mp videos. Game looks great. Dont care about spIs it me or does BF4 on the PS4/XBO actually look beautiful? I expected this game to look like dog shit.
Honestly, I have both pre-ordered and was planning on selling one and keeping the other. Was leaning towards PS4 because of exaggerated powerfulness compare to the X1, but now I know there's not much of a difference due to them using the same underpowered CPU.
Also, considering how they both require yearly online subscription fee, knowing that Xbox Live is a MUCH better service than PSN and I much prefer Xbox games (Forza, Halo, Titanfall, etc...), I'm gonna have to go with the X1.
I'll probably get PS4 when some interesting games come out for it.
If you prefer the X1 games, sure go ahead. No one can blame you for getting a console with the games you want. Doesnt change that X1 is massively inferior tech though as it seems now.
Haven't been keeping up.
How did DF screw up?
Agreed but based on this and other news we'll have a fare share amount of sub 1080p games on PS4.......not cool especially if the scaler produces a sub par image.
The takeaway to me is that the ps4 is indeed more powerful but it's diminishing returns. I personally wouldnt go changing what system I would get based off of these differences.
It's interesting because it's both 30% and not really a big deal. Both sides were right.
That said I think that extra horsepower will really shine in games built for the platform.
And the fact that they didn't show xb1 MP due to technical issues lends some credence to my source/thuway/cboat about xbl issues. Or it's a poorly timed coincidence...
This whole thing has destroyed my sarcasm detector. I went to the xbox reddit to see how they are handling this and they are saying shit like: "X1 is not as weak as people say. This proves it." and (paraphrasing): "playstation fanboys have suffered for 15 years, always getting the inferior ports, now because their console has a few extra pixels they're dishing out that payback"
I posted this thought in a now closed thread, but I think it applies here.
From the BF4 comparisons, the differences are not terribly noticeable without staring at freeze-frames and really analyzing things - my most hated activity of the PS360 comparisons. If this turns out to be the case, isn't that actually saying a lot about the XO when you combine it with all the GAF confirmed insider rumors?
If I believe what I see and read - XO SDK is a disaster, EsRAM is a useless bottleneck right now, and the XO OS is Windows ME levels of crap. But the two versions of BF4 seen so far are this close? I must be missing something, but this sounds kind of promising for the XO. Clearly the raw power of the PS4 isn't there, but it's more than capable of keeping pace, it seems.

Its not an exaggeration. PS3 Multiplats were often inferior to 360 versions, but 180p more plus better FPS and more effects is way more grave than the difference we had last gen.
Both game versions still look decent, but on a tech level the X1 seems so far behind that its not even funny anymore.

I'm confused. DF did something wrong? What did they do?
Yea I agree. Console gamers are in for a treatlooking at the BF4 PS4 footage on JackFrags channel and my God... I wouldn't be shocked if BF sold more then COD in the long run for next-gen consoles
just looking at it getting there to PC effects with 64player and I would wonder why would someone go and get a next-gen console just so they could play COD
it is like a person getting a gaming rig and the first thing they do is play COD on it
Dude, its 50% higher resolution with better FPS and more effects. How is that not clearly more raw power. This is already a bigger difference than anything we had last gen.

No massively inferior infers a HUGE difference. Wii compared to 360 or PS3. Wii U compared to PS4 and XB1. That is a Massively inferior difference. The PS4 is superior to the XB1, absolutely no doubt about it but yes, saying "massively inferior" IS an exaggeration of the differences.
The takeaway to me is that the ps4 is indeed more powerful but it's diminishing returns. I personally wouldnt go changing what system I would get based off of these differences.

Now that they have confirmed that recording was messed up, what credibility does this paragraph have in DF article:
If i told people that they have contrest and sharpen in their TV options that would probably blow people mind away.
Clearly the raw power of the PS4 isn't there, but it's more than capable of keeping pace, it seems.
I missed this, haha
Both console versions aren`t that hot to be honest.
Xbox one`s version looks like sharpness set to max on a hdtv and the result is an ugly artificially sharped, grained and unnatural picture. In motion this version will flicker and shimmer a lot.
On top of that the gamma and contrast look completely wrong and way to dark and harsh with crushed blacks - thats not a homogeneous and balanced picture setting, MS.
The ps4 on the other side looks very soft - too soft for my liking - and that vaseline filter is taking the shaders their pop. I smell the worst possible post process aa solution called FXAA - awful decision to use this cheap and bad looking solution. At least the flicker and shimmering will be better with this version thanks to the better screen resolution but i`m not satisfied with this version either.
And finally the PC version: here you can clearly see why MSAA is the best possible aa solution available (after SSAA), and why hardware based aa is so much better than software based post process aa.
With MSAA the picture looks still incredibly sharp and at the same time as homogeneous and natural as it gets, and isn`t taking the shaders their pop and sharpness - it looks just right and great.
Still going with a PS4 - of course - but if i want to play BF4 i will go with the PC version. The softness thanks to the cheap post process aa solution is just too much for my liking.
