Your whole "it should just be about the games" stance isn't needed. I don't think anyone seriously will forego getting a PS4 because it lacked a basic support of MP3s, however that doesn't make it any less facepalm-able.

Once again, I never said that this wasn't a problem for some people. I just don't believe it's as big an issue as people are making it. If Sony rights the wrong, great for us. If not, life goes on.

Perfect.

To be honest, it seems like one way of how Sony is beating Microsoft's patent. They just want to give users a taste of what's possible. I'm sure a backlash will get their attention so they can work around this issue.

I want to use mp3 on PS4. PS3 had great visualizers. I want those too. Stop pushing a service towards us and maybe I'll sign up for it myself.

Either that or provide free stations on it similar to what Rdio is doing, and I may not mind it. May.

P.S. So disappointed at lack of vizualisers more than the lack of mp3. I was hoping for it knowing how much powerful PS4 is. Imagine how crazy of vizualisers they can produce. Hell, I'll gladly buy premium vizualisers than premium themes.

They take the little things away first before going for the bigger money grabs. That's how it always starts. You either fight them to begin with or you let them have free reign to continue to continue to nickle and dime you to death.

Seems he just brushed it off.
You were expecting something other than lip service?
He's not going to tell us "yeah, we'll be patching that into the PS4 in early 2014" when they have no intention of doing so.
The FAQ was pretty definitive about that.

I suspect we'll get a non-answer/stalling from Major Nelson on the Xbone front if there's no good news to share there, either.

Sony's been making some odd choices lately... What is the point in not allowing this or themes?

Those stupid games and core functionality took the focus away ><

These systems can and will be patched. PS3 launched without in game XMB, no DLNA, no BG's or themes, and no in game soundtracks to just name a few.

That's not the response of a company that knows it's already planning to do it. Perhaps Yosp doesn't know.

Like getting Music Unlimited to work in-game for a fee?

No money from me. I don't care all that much about it so I will ignore it.

Thanks for the feedback to the lack of MP3 and DLNA support at the launch of PS4. I'll share with the PS4 Dev team for future consideration.

They still play audio CDs and the newer ones support MP3.

whoa whoa whoa... MP3 and such is pretty bad to be missing.. definitely.

Lack of CD? No way.

a) CD is a license that has to be paid for (well, half of one. To Philips)
b) CD sales have been double digit declining YoY for years now.
c) the folks still buying CDs are generally NOT the same folks buying high end electronics

Lack of CD is akin to lack of analog audio/video. Are they losing customers over it? Probably very few if any at all. At the same time all of those things are lowering costs.

When Nintendo...NINTENDO...allows MP3 files to be played on the 3DS and the PS4 does not, there's a problem.

Yes, it's a games console but there are just certain features you come to expect a system or device to have and if doesn't, the outcry is deserving. Especially at $400.

It is a pretty big deal, people have been complaining about a 360-like music system for years. Now they're trying to put music behind a paywall and limit worse than the PS3. Don't know why you're trying to downplay the importance but once again, it's not needed.

That is a very good non answer. Not seeing that as any kind of comfirmation of anything :/

What were you hoping for a confirmation of ? :s He can't just promise the dev team will do something right away, he's head of game development, nothing to do with OS. He can only pass on the message

Exactly. But this came out of fucking nowhere, man.

Just think about. PS3 does. Vita does it. PSP did it. I can't remember about PS2/1 but I bet they could too.

The fact that the PS4 can't is ridiculous.

Awesome! :D 180 incoming praise the Lord! (yosp)

hardly. that is their response for every os feature request. we heard that all gen with things for ps3 that never came to fruition. we shouldn't stop pressing him and sony about this, imo. it's not something worth cancelling my preorder for, but i use custom soundtracks on my vita and ps3. it's a huge deal to me.

There we go, at least that's a start. They should have said at launch from the start.

It may seem like a big deal now, without any real word from Sony. Listen to Kagari, and wait for the full picture.

Yoshida's answer is a total non-answer.

They know exactly what they're doing, they put in the effort to get their shitty music service to work but no DLNA and mp3.

holy moly, that's actually worse than I thought. I assumed they just couldn't quite fit it into the first release. Not having it on the schedule for a future update already is a little upsetting. This is a major use-case for me.

It's not surprising. MS have been getting beat up the last few days (and months really) over all of their fuck ups that when something negative comes out about Sony, people want to blow it up to the same level when it is nowhere near. Is Sony trying to push people into MU shitty? Damn right it is. Is this the deal-breaker people want it to be? It really isn't no matter how much whining happens.

What you're doing in this post is making a sweeping judgement about EVERYONE and how they should take this news. It's utterly inane. And saying people 'want' it to be a dealbreaker is childish as fuck.

To someone who uses their own music all the time? This is a major change and it's no shock people don't want to be strongarmed into another subscription. People have different perspectives on what's important.
