Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 3: Ridley's Believe It or Not!

WiI Fit Trainer (and most likely Villager) has two genders in the game. Why are people doing the slippery slope and assume characters will be pasted onto other characters?

Then again this is the Smash Bros. community.

I wouldn't get my hopes up for a lot of similar cases, though. "Similar characters" like Fox/Falco/Wolf or Peach/Daisy could work, but I'm not sure -- Peach's moveset in Smash is nothing like Daisy, for example, although they fit stylistically. A similar dilemma can rise with Link; OoT Link would be great to have, but Smash Link's moveset is based on TP Link at this point, with the Bracer and the Gale Boomerang.

Mmm, knowing Sakurai, sadly I dont think so. No, I dont mean the shitty change colors.
Characters like Peach>Daisy>Rosalina are as perfectly doable as what they did with Wiifit trainer. In fact, thats what this game needed to feel fresh from the old ones (becuase, as someone that has all smash games as some of their favourite games, I'm not seeing anything in this one that makes me hyped in the slightlest, in fact, all the contrary, that is why I dont enter much this thread).
Until I don't see Sakurai say, all characters have different alts that are costume/character changes that make sense, im not believing anything.
He did it with wario only last time, and I thought only doing it to him was cheap as hell.

Not asexual in Spain. They will need to do a dub name change. Im not sure, but maybe France and Italy are not asexual either. So this is the time where Sakurai needs to go all out, or do nothing as always.

It's just confusing then. Male or female makes sense. It's like if the Animal Crossing games let you play as Ness from Earthbound cos hell, just cos.

Daisy its the sports Master, and Rosalina drinks tea with Galactus.

Technically you can do it, the same way you can make wario have a mario moveset. But you can't because the characters move sets need to be different. To do that would kind of just be .. I dunno lazy and disappointing.

I agreed with you. If rumor is right about us getting Mii then I can see that we are getting 5 or 6 ALT.

Wii Fit Trainer - Female and Male
Villager - Female and Male
Pokemon Trainer - Female and Male
Mii - Female and Male
Mario - Dr. Mario
WarioWare's Wario - WarioLand's Wario

It could be cool to see Female Pikachu tho.

Again, I'm not saying is going to happen, because in fact, Im perfectly sure he will not do alts for every character, but I don't understand this rules some of you are tyring to create here to defend Sakurai's decisions.

What I say is what I would do if I was in Sakurai's place, but Im not saying he will do the same thing.
 
I don't really think there's any pattern to go off. Wario had an alternate outfit in Brawl, an entire model swap. Zelda can turn into an entirely separate character as a fundamental move. Samus goes Zero Suit after a final smash. Pokemon trainer has three characters. Jigglypuff gets hats. There's not really any consistency. Maybe every character has alts. Maybe some characters have alts, more than expected, just for the sake of variety. Maybe alts are only contextual to whatever the team feels is relevant, like Wii Fit Trainer being gender neutral.

Nobody knows.

It tempers expectations and lessens disappointment. And wasn't there an official statement linked in the OP that said there'd be no alt costumes?
 
Female Pikachu is just a notch in the tail right?

They'd have to make it so the alts and colours work in conjunction because if two players play as default male and female Pikachu you'd not be able to tell who is who from a distance.

-I dont find it confussing, If I was Sakurai I would do this when a character is in the line where is not important but at the same time would be cool to have, and is nearly exactly a pallet swap of any other character. For example Peach>Daisy and Mario>Dr Mario. Or Little Mac and the Super Punch-Out!! no name fighter. It's of course easier to do with different itinerations of the same character like Wario original>Wario Ware. Rosalina and Daisy are not important to have their own character, but they could perfectly work with exactly the same rig animations of Peach, what alt dresses can Peach have? Wedding Peach from Super Paper Mario and? Of corse, other characters have much more alt versions to work FUN alts for them.

-Since when is Wario not an important character? Wario never ever moved exactly the same (or has the same moves for that matter) as Mario, nor has the same body. They needed to be different characters from the get a go. Lazy is what SSB4 is now, please tell what new things the game has that are not characters. He even said he was taking out things from Brawl for gods sake (cutscene story mode for example, something I found great, but could have had some big improvements for SSB4, like Sakurai writting the story this time like he did with Kid Icarus). The graphics from the WiiU version are incredible, but I can't be hyped right now for the game (and much less for the 3DS version). Something that could give the edge to this game are different alts for EVERY character that expands the idea of a Nintendo museum the game has. Lazy because two characters that would have never be in the roster in any other form appear as alts? That wouldn't be lazy, that would be awesome, and hard work, and thats why im pretty sure we will never see that.

Yep, thats exactly what it is. People trying to create strange rules for Sakurai's doing is what I was saying here. Maybe he gives alts to everyone at the end, maybe not, maybe he adds Ridley instead and thats why he is trolling, or maybe he is just having fun trolling and Ridley doesnt appear. Anything could happen and only Sakurai right now knows.
 
I hope male Wii Fit Trainer means we're getting Lucina/Marth. I like these alt/double characters, Samus/ZSS, Zelda/Sheik, WFT/male WFT. Pit/Dark Pit, Link/Dark Link, Ganondorf/Pig Ganon would be great too.
 
Sakurai has introduced TWO characters nobody suspected. First Wii Fit Trainer, then Wii Fit Male Trainer. o_O

...so we should expect more characters that nobody could predict. Exodia will be announced next.

What rules? They exist because that's how they are shown in the game. It's not like WFT and Villager genders have defined roles. They pretty much are the same thing except you could change their gender at the start. No one is making arbitrary rules, it's just how it is presented in the games.

Hell, Pokemon Trainer can be affected by that even.

Oh, I didn't think about the possibility of international gender differences. That said, part of me thinks they may regard the name as being "Wii Fit Trainer", and therefore it could remain in English in all languages. What was Pokemon Trainer in Brawl?

also I think this open's up a huge potential for pokemon trainer, who has a generic name like "pokemon trainer" dear god, it can go farther than male.female, sakurai could potentially add all 6 gens!, good lord! the possibilities!
 
Wow, so alt costumes might be possible after all for certain characters? I know this means we'll see an increase of female Villager requests.

Most likely "yes" as well, but I wonder if he'll have his own voice as well.
 
People for some reason took sakurai's interview to mean alt. characters, he was just referring to customizing characters like giving pokemon trainer a pimp hat or something.
 
I honestly hope sakurai uses the several outfits fox has worn in advenure and assault, aswell as his classic outfit from starfox64, maybe even throw in his 90's orange outfit.
