I have a dumb, dumb question since I've been on Verizon forever. Since I'll switch to Sprint for this phone, can I transfer my number? If so, do I sign up with Sprint first or cancel Verizon first?

I'm certain it works the same way in the US as it does here. You sign up with Sprint and tell them you want to keep your current number. Sprint should handle it for you from there.

I just switched from Verizon to AT&T and all I did was go to AT&T and they got the number transferred for me. So I didn't need to do anything on the Verizon end.

Edit: Yep, what DrSlek said.

Sweet, thanks guys. Only reason I was worried is because I'm the "main" account on a family plan with my parents. They obviously don't give a crap about losing unlimited though.

So your parents phone numbers are also on that plan?

That might make matters slightly less straight forward, but as long as you know the details of the plan you're currently on you should be fine.

I once ported by phone number to a company plan at a new job. When I left I couldn't get my phone number out of the plan because I needed to know the pin of my sim card or something. I decided it would be a pain in the arse to dick around with those details, so I just ended up getting a new number.

Perhaps check with Sprint to see what details you'll need in your situation, and then get any of that info you don't already have from Verizon. Shouldn't be too difficult.

I've never bought anything from the Google play store, or set up a credit card or anything. Do I need to add funds to my wallet first in order to buy things?

Nope. Just have your card info entered and make sure the card you'll be using is set to default. This will speed up the process quite a bit.

I can't imagine that Google hasn't made any improvements to the ordering process - it couldn't possibly be worse than it was a year ago - but it's not a bad idea to have everything set up ahead of time.

Do u have to pay for Google Play? Like is it a subscription thing, or just a store that you need to sign in for? What' are the requirements?

This thread will be interesting tomorrow.

How strong is the screen? I currently have a cover on my Galaxy Nexus but don't really like it that much as I feel it lessens the image quality somewhat, but I've read the screen scratches easily so I've been afraid to remove it. Does the Nexus 5 have Gorilla Glass or another strong screen material?

Gorilla Glass 3

I don't have a case or screen protector on my GNex and I haven't noticed any scratches thus far.

Man, I don't know...on the one hand it'd be nice to own a smartphone, and I might be able to get the unlimited talk/text/data from Sprint on a discount.

On the other hand, I don't really use my phone for much talking or texting as it is. Not really for internet, either, though that's most because it sucks at it. If I sign up for Sprint, I'd probably be paying $60 more a month than what I'm paying now.

Hmm...

Try Ting, it uses the Sprint network.

Hmm...

Tmo $30 plan. Unlimited everything (throttle after 5gb of data) except for minutes. Which is only 100 minutes.

Amazing, I bought a new GNexus off Kijiji for 425 in April 2012 and the N5 is going to be cheaper than that brand new at launch.........amazing :)

Maybe I'll buy one in late 2014..........unless my GNexus craps out before then

Do people think the camera will be much of an improvement? Still debating whether to upgrade from my N4 and an improved camera would certainly help.

€349 for 16GB... so £319

€399 for 32GB? £349?

The S4 is currently selling for £385 on Amazon UK and the One is selling at c. £400.

Not sure the Nexus 5 is such a bang-for-the-buck if it's only £20-40 cheaper than an HTC One.

I'm hoping it doesn't go over £300 for the 32GB or else I'd be out. Would be a big jump in price from what the top capacity Nexus 4 launched at.

The US pricing is the same as the Nexus 4. So, if that holds for the UK, you're looking at £279 for 16gb, maybe £300-319 for 32gb.

However, there are rumors that it comes with free 100 GB Google Drive.

Yeah, I'm gonna have to go with the black 16GB. So much cloud storage, if you're on T-Mobile unlimited cheap data anywhere it's silly to pay extra. I have like 8GB of Dropbox, 50GB of Tresorit, already 45GB on Drive, and all my music synced with Google Music for nothin'...

I went with the 32GB Nexus 7 since it was only $40 more but have hardly used a quarter of it since between cloud and my home networked video drive I have absolutely everything accessible and backed up automatically. All you really need the storage for is local pics (before they're automatically uploaded to Dropbox/G+/Drive) and applications. You'll still have plenty left over to keep 30-40 albums locally cached if that's your bag too.

Yeah...this rumor is sweet. I just hope THEY don't start charging for the space after a period of time.

Yahoo giving their users 1 terabyte of space is insane. Google needs to at least up the ante.
