Lol what. Why on earth do people not like/want this? This basically replaces 'clones' in a way that upsets no-one. They stop being clones and start being skins.

Really, go ahead and tell them you like the idea of turning them into Fox's alts. It was a pretty entertaining afternoon when I did this a few weeks ago
So I went to try and find that ridley mod to see it in an actual clear shot, I ended up down some rabbit hole of smash mods.
There's some crazy shit in here, seriously:

There are actually some pretty cool ones on there, but why does the smash mod community produce so much shit?

That's basically every User Generated Content site out there. Sturgeon's Law is in greater effect the larger the community is and how low the bar of entry is.

"Alternate costumes can't reference different characters unless the original game had a gender choice option" pretty much is an arbitrary rule. If we look at the current alternate colors, there's no such rule, like Link's Dark Link and Zelda OoT colors show. So, saying that alternate costumes can't go beyond a certain point, when we apparently just got an alternate costume revealed that seems to go past previous rules (like changing voice and general body shape) seems like drawing an arbitrary line.
Of course, there's no proof yet they might cross the "character name" line, but they seem like they're crossing some of the lines we apparently had before, so it's not out of question.
I don't even think he even knows at this point lol. I believe one of his comments about alts led some like me to believe he felt they took something away from a characters uniqueness but in this case it makes sense because wft is a more generic name and both characters are interchangeable in the game.
So in the end, no bahday knows imo. All I know is that this is a perfect opportunity to have masked marth as an alt now.

Tails and Knuckles cant even do what sonic does. And shadow fights completely different, so I guess you are safe.

That comment about costumes hurting uniqueness was a reply to a question about customizable costumes, not about alternate outfits. Giving the player the ability to add a straw hat and leather jacket to Mario is very different from allowing them to choose a preset "Doctor Mario" model for him.
Huh... have you never played the 2d games? There's no ability of Smash Sonic that would be impossible for them. They would be missing some of their own characteristic abilities though.
I don't think that Sonic example is very likely though, even if we get alternate costumes that change a character's name. Just look at how limited his colors were in Brawl compared to the actual Nintendo characters. Sega likely limits what can be done with his alternate looks. (I guess the same goes to the Pokemon, thinking about it...)

I meant more along the lines of Dr. Mario. I wouldnt want to get rid of wolf or falco.
Very, actually. I hope the lady killager is available too. I do hope there are a couple more alts overall, maybe not one for every character but to give the ones with more facets different ways of being represented without chewing up a character slot. (I'm still unamused that they kept a clone of Link in, but maybe they differentiated him.)

What he said. Only thing I can think of that they cant do that Smash Sonic can is the homing attack and obviously the Final Smash (if they decide to keep it the same)
Knuckles and Tails have had super forms before, so that's hardly out of the question. Neither would be perfectly represented, but it's not that big a stretch.
He's going to be a pretty popular character among gay and female players. A good selling point for those markets.
I haven't seen any movements so far that would look too feminine for him so I'm sure he'll have the same moveset.
I have, I also play the newer games as well. Sega has kind of devorced a lot of characters from their pasts. So while admidly tails could do and amy rose. As of 3d and beyond, tails flies and knuckles punches. I do not think sega would be ok with it, aside from what lost world was suppousd to be, they have shown they are content with how the charactes are.
Also homing attack, they can't do that, also Knuckles like shadow and Blaze have the added bonus of having move set potential far greater than sonic. I like Knux Shadow and Blaze but yo, I would be pissed if I one of them somehow got in, but it was as an alt. That is like if their was a super man alt for batman in some game. Why even do that, it would just be dissapointing just make em an assit if you can't make them a character or leave em
Despite what one may think, sega gives a very large peice of poo about how sonic is represented. Even if it does not look like it.

Huh. When I said last night that the most horrifying thing Sakurai could do for Halloween is show off an actual tasteful picture of WFT, I wasn't expecting this.
I don't really care about the male trainer, but the implications of alt costumes in this picture are crazy awesome.

The main issue with female Trainer would be her Pokemon. How would they be differentiated from the male trainer? More extra colors? Some random costume parts? Actually attempt to skin other random Pokemon onto their skeletons? It's not as simple as the villager and Wii Fit Trainer.

Give those pokemon the girly colors since they don't have problem to give pokemon different colors in Brawl.
It's just going to take some time (and great fanart) to get used to it. I felt same way when the male Villager and WFT were revealed.

No, only speed characters, knuckles. And tails did not have homing attacks or spindashes in the adevture games either.
Also no it would not be, because nightwing doesn't have powers like batman and was trained by him. Like I said supes, hal, or hawkman.
I mean it works for tails, and that is good enough. But when you venture into shadow or knuckles territory its a downgrade. Like can't I spit hot rhymes while I punch you with my emword power. Moveset potential wasted.
Their proportions are nearly identical.(And smash ain't known for tight hitboxes)
The problem with that is that 90% of pokemon have no sexual dimorphism. Unless of course you're fine with them compromising and slapping bows and sun hats on everything.

I don't think this confirms alt. costumes for everybody whatsoever. WFT and Villager are going to be special cases just like Wario.

More than likely, yeah. I wouldn't rule out a female Pokemon Trainer either. Then again, you don't exactly play as the Trainer. It'd be odd to choose which gender you wanted to be.

Man, the reactions on the other thread. Worst Smash yet, people wanting to skip the game because of these characters, FWFT was interesting on reveal, but now she's lame. lol
If it's not some cool character like Skull Kid, Shadow or Minecraft Guy people freak out.
I'm glad Sakurai's doing things no one would expect. In a world where the internet spoils everyone, it's nice to have a surprise for once.
