Ah, thank ya guys. I didn't know Shadow was that different. I just kinda assumed Sonic is a fast hedgehog therefore all hedgehogs in the series run pretty fast and do spin dash things.

Sucks that Classic Sonic is just different enough that it really wouldn't work well as an alt costume. I figured that would be an easy addition.

No chance that this isn't an alt costume. The screenshot would be seriously misleading if it wasn't, and Sakurai, while he may be trolly, isn't deliberately misleading.

And forget all other options, if Sonic gets an alternate costume it needs to be Metal Sonic. No voicework required!

Well, Ike is very different between his youthful appearance from Path of Radiance and his older, significantly bulkier appearance from Radiant Dawn. In both of those games he has both a base and promoted forms as well. So that is four different appearances to choose from before you even get into his Fire Emblem Awakening appearance.

For Megaman they could theoretically use X or Megaman.exe as well. But the no-helmet Megaman is bar far the most likely.

Last time, as soon as he revealed classic Wario, Sakurai said that he'd be unique and the only one getting an actual second costume. Dark Link was still just a texture swap, even if a very elaborate one (and, unlike Classic Wario, didn't have multiple color variations).

So, making alternative costumes an actual feature available to multiple characters would be basically an addition to the series. Considering how we're getting a "no comment" here, rather than preparing everyone about how we won't see more of that, I think it's likely that it's teasing a new feature (alt. costumes), rather than an unique characteristic.

It depends. They seem to have based the original Megaman on his in game sprites, rather than artwork. X's sprites up to X3 were pretty short too (the artwork itself also was fairly short back then).

The sprite's proportions are entirely different though. He's clearly tall, it's just the sprite style was pretty small itself.
