PlayStation 4 All Access on 11/14 - 11pm EST on Spike + Live Stream

My thinking is that the Epic deal with MS is comprised of 4 Gears titles. That is why they handed the main development of the game to People Can Fly in order to ship the title before the new console ship out.

Also the fact Microsoft WANT Gears back for Xbox One, means it's probably not conversations they've been having yet.

So... If this happened would it be like a Final Fantasy level betrayal?

Precisely, perhaps would explain that now that Judgment has shipped why that would up and get rid of People Can Fly's name all together so abruptly. Renaming them Epic Poland though, still doesn't sit well, but assigning them semi-permanent Fortnite support duty certainly seems intentional at the very least.

All signs are pointing to an Epic reveal but I really doubt it's Gears. New Shooter IP with some sort of exclusivity deal, that or Fortnite.

I expect they'll reveal some new smaller projects such as Jaffe's game which is rumoured to be published by Sony, throw in the Journey and Unfinished Swan announcement for PS4.

Likely some new trailers for already announced games (inFamous, DriveClub, etc.)

Lastly some sort of teaser for the VGA's. Probably Naughty Dog.

Expect no more.

Everyone who's adding to the GOW on PS4 story. Thank you, thank you so so much. I want to believe so badly. This is THE reason I bought a 360, twice! I sold it bought it back for Gears 3. Damn I need this so bad.

I could see them announce a prequel to Gears of War. Unless judgment was a prequel to Gears 1. I didn't play judgment so I don't know.

It's a prequel, yeah. You're playing as Baird in a squad from earlier in his life.

If it is an Epic game, I hope it's a new IP and a TPS. Between Killzone, Destiny, and whatever PS4-exclusive content is coming to Drstiny, I think the FPS audience on PS4 is already set to be satisfied.

All signs seem to point towards Epic revealing something at the event. That would be weird after partnering with Xbox for most of the past 8 years. It funny how Microsoft have their 'partnership' with EA while Sony appear to have everybody else lined up in their corner.

lol that is true, I guess microsoft spent all their money on money hatting EA that Sony was able to partner up with everyone else LMAO.

Isn't that the truth. I mean it could seriously complement the Order quite well in the process too if indeed a TPS, at least roster wise.

Edited: What are the odds Cliffy B who's currently in the NYC today (via Twitter), stays there till the 14th and perhaps shows something?

Ah ok, so they already made a prequel. They could always make a another Gears game featuring some new squad that takes place after the events of Gears 3 or something I guess.

I'd be really surprised if he was making a game for PS4. He was defending the MS Xbone DRM pretty heavily on the Giant Bomb E3 live streams if I recall correctly.

E3 time, there was talk of a big 3rd party title signing up exclusively for the PS4. Gears, well, I'd never even considered that, seems too far fetched.

Maybe Epic are salty about MS 1.3Tflops, they wanted 2.5 (with a GPU upclock later in the Gen expect Sony to atleast break the 2Tflops)

Phil Spencer said on Podcast unlocked a hint about Epics future, when asked if they are gonna have another team do Gears, Phils reply was shifty, sugguesting another team could do it (which we know is BS since EPIC own the IP) Phil then mentioned in a seperate conversation about some studios having other needs and business models for Next gen, releasing on other platforms ( I think he was talking about Crytek, but possibly Epic also)

Can you elaborate on this upclock? Something you've heard or something you made up?

Sony won't upclock the GPU, because if they can do it later then why they're not doing it now, what would be the point of delaying an upgrade to PS4 to later time?

I think it's rumor from Thuway (an insider), but even he is not sure about it.

I will say MSFT's comments on Gears were a little odd I thought, but of course I know nothing. I'd honestly take the new Gears instead a new Gears.

this was the big announcement I was hoping for ever since my decision to go with PS4 this gen. im a huge fan of Epic and their games and I still play Gears3 every weekend with friends.

is it possible they continued with the Samaritan tech demo and pushed it into full time development?

"epic ship to ship space battles"

"epic"

so the space game is from epic.

Just Epic working on a new multiplatform IP would be enough to shake some people. That by itself would mean no new exclusive Gears and those fans would have the freedom to choose between the two consoles. You immediately split the fanbase that way.

Hype properly adjusted. I'm guessing we'll see at least one or two AAA games, and probably a few indies too. But there's never going to be some giant event where we see EVERYTHING AT ONCE, obviously.

Why would Sony choose a multiplat to reveal at their huge launch event/party? To me it only makes sense that they would announce an exclusive or two because at an event celebrating Sony and only Sony. Or is that foolish of me to assume that? Anyway, my point is that if Epic is revealing a game at this event, I would think there is some sort of exclusivity or if it is a multiplat, that it will be one of several announcements, at least one of which would be a major PS4 exclusive title.

You mean like Destiny, FFXV, KH3, AC4, Watch_Dogs, NBA 2K, etc.? Sony always show off multiplatform games at their events. They've probably got some exclusive DLC deal or something.

It's probably one of several announcements. This sounds like a pre-launch event where they're going to make new games announcements to furtherly create hype around the product at launch. A perfect marketing strategy.
Obviously they wouldn't make such a thing if just a single announcement from Epic was involved.
But it's possible that Epic is making a partnership with Sony similar to what Bungie is doing with Destiny.

Phil Spencer not-so-quietly and publicly dissing Gears and the recent direction tells you precisely what you need to know. Something is happening to the Gears license that the the current head of Xbox feels comfortable musing on the series needing a change.

He praised the series and said Judgement wasn't as well received which is right. I don't see how you come to that conclusion.

He pretty much said the series was washed up and he didn't see that there was room to still take the series somewhere that would keep it fresh. He didn't outright say that because he can't, but if you peel away the PR speak he pretty much blasted it. You never see these guys criticize anything even the slightest to avoid potential PR hits with guys you may want to partner with in the future so I was pretty shocked he said as much as he did.

its probably the same game from the UE4 demo that we seen before " the dude with a gun running around killing other people and stuff in some sort of space facility"

"I thought we did a good job with Judgment, but I don't think it hit the level of quality we saw in the previous games. I think review scores showed that. Sales showed that. I really think we'd need to take a step back with Epic and think about... I don't want to call it a reboot because I think it's an overused term but think about where that franchise goes and how to expand what it was.

"I'd love to have that conversation. I do talk to the Epic guys often. They're also busy right now. I think they've said Gears is kind of on the back burner for them. So I think it would be a situation when the opportunity came up at the right time it'd be great to sit down with them. They're, again, the right team to work on that game. Trying to find another team to do that game I think is possible, but you'd want to make sure you did that very carefully along with them to make sure we had the right thing in place."

I don't agree with you. If he had pretty much blasted I'm sure at least some of media would of picked up on it.

Why wouldn't Sony want brand association with potentially the new IP from the developer that created one of the most influential IP's from the current-gen? We aren't going to see many third party exclusives this gen, which is going to lead to a lot of brand association tactics. We see that with Sony and Destiny, FFXV, KH3 etc. and with MS and CoD, BF and FIFA. There's also exclusive DLC or timed exclusive DLC to try to make that brand association stick.

I'm pretty sure this demo is the version of UE4 that has dispensed of things like SVOGI they said next gen consoles simply couldn't do.

lol. next gen consoles already outdated by pc and the systems aren't even out.

kinda sad really as i was hoping next gen consoles would be more powerful.

but eh. 400$. can't really complain much.

That's an absolutely good point. I was just thinking about the timing of the announcement. Announcing a new game on release night to mostly Sony fans, which makes your point still make sense.

Consoles run 2x or so better than equal PC hardware, but it isn’t just API in the way, focus a single spec also matters.

So PS4 is pretty much equal in performance to a 4TF PC. I mean, we've all seen what ND has done with the RSX which is pretty much a 7600GT, a 9 year old mid-range GPU.

You could also argue it was a misstep or miscalculation on their part. They had to have a general idea of target specs while they were developing the engine. They actually removed it after showing it.

Nowadays, announcements can be made anywhere, anytime. However, companies tend to stick to major events like E3, etc for the simple reason that major press sites are there to extend the coverage, and also that media attention are significantly stronger across the board whenever these events take place. Not every company can be Apple where they can choose the time of their announcements, and the media attention will simply cloud to them.

Arguably, one can argue that release night/day of the PS4 is arguably the one time where Sony can control the media attention of its product, and if any new announcements are to be made, it's really only at that time for this month.
