another reason to love hiddleston
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9uJMDNNF_o

just watched it, i liked it quite alot more than thor 1, which i never really liked for some reason

spoilers regarding the during credits scene....
so the collector is the antagonist for GotG, what about thanos that was shown on avengers post credits? lol
don't tell me he is for avengers 2?
what's the projected year of release for GotG and avengers 2?
Thanos is not the villian of GotG. The Collector is. Thanos will be in GoTG but it will be a small role and not the main villian. He is also not the villian of Avengers 2. Ultron is. Thanos is being set up for Avengers 3 by all accounts. GoTG is out in 2014. Avengers 2 is out in 2015. Avengers 3 will likely be out in 2018.

Just came back, really liked it from start to finish from the dialogue to the visuals everything was top-notch, you could tell both the writers and the actors had a ball! Now for the obligatory Marvel flick ranking:

Avengers > Thor 2 > Cap Am > Thor > Hulk > Iron Man > IM3 > IM 2 .

This should be a new rule.. if you post your opinion on a Marvel movie, you should be required to add your MCU movie rankings to the end of it so we can tell if you're crazy or not
you're crazy.. jk

Interesting idea...

Iron Man > Avengers = Thor 2 > Thor > Iron Man 3 > Captain America > Iron Man 2 > Hulk

Great movie although I don't think the story served much purpose, and seemed more filler in the grand scheme of things.

I missed the end credits scene, are there any links?

I haven't seen it but loved Thor and hated cap. Your ranking gives me mixed feelings.

Thoroughly enjoyed it. If the first Thor film felt very small scale and un-Thor ish, this sure doesn't. The story is very simple but it works, it's a great visual treat, plenty of laughs, and the final battle scene is very creative and fun
MIND. THE GAP
. There's also lots of material for a Thor 3 without the film feeling like it held back anything/

Weaknesses would be Christopher Eccleston not getting much to do as the villain and maybe a few too many characters, but nothing major. If you enjoyed the first one, you'll definitely like this one, and if you didn't, well you still may like it.

Big improvement over the first film and one of Marvel's better films in the MCU. I'd even say it's the best non-Avengers MCU film since...say, Iron Man?

Happy to see some good impressions on the movie. Can't wait to see it. Some of you are talking like Tom Hiddleston is hideous. He's a handsome dude I just think when he's rockin' Loki hair he looks a bit odd.

I can only add to the positive critiques! In the beginning it kinda felt like a Stargate Episode (in a good way), but it build from that. The humor is kept from the first and worked pretty well, Loki was cool but is becoming predictable. Elba is continued to be wasted as Heimdall, but at least he gets more to do this time. Als in all I think its pretty impressive to get the whole ensemble back for a second time.

The visuals were great! Most impressive Marvel movie to date in this regard. Often felt inspired by del Toro in its visual design.

The story itself was nothing special but also not bad. It brought Thor
and Loki
forward as characters if nothing else. Small spoiler regarding the overall Story in the movie:
I don't like that in each Superhero movie its always everything at stake. I liked Hulk and IM3 for it's smaller, more personal scale. And even in Thor it has to be a final battle on earth..

Just saw it a couple of days ago at an exclusive preview screening by Disney.
I loved it and so did my fiance (she hated the first one).
the twists in it are amazing and they happen one after another!

For the people who have already seen this, what's the balance between sci fi and fantasy like? My biggest disappointment with the first one is that it veered way too far into the sci fi category while I was hoping for more epic viking fantasy action. This one seems to strike a better balance but I'm still worried that when Doctor Strange rolls around they'll explain it away as him using alien technology or some shit.

And since everyone else is doing it:
IM3>IM>Avengers>the first half of Captain America>Incredible Hulk>IM2>Thor>the second half of Captain America

I imagine this will fit somewhere between avengers and TIH

I really liked this. I guess my only complaint is that I'd have liked them to better explain what "returning the universe to darkness" actually meant and also what exactly the Aether did.

People will shit you on this but I more or less agree. I'd probably swap Iron Man with Hulk though.

EDIT: there - Avengers > Thor 2 > Cap Am > Thor > Iron Man > Hulk > IM3 > IM 2

I can't see why people who disliked IM3 liked this, jokes are immensely invasive this time, plot twists are predictable. I'm not saying that this is a bad movie, it's one of their bests, but IM3 had an awesome balance.

quite a big gap between Average Critic rating and Rotten score

Rotten Score: 84
Average Score: 6.6

does this suggest plenty of barely positives? or the minority of negatives are really negatives?

Have you had a repeat viewing?
I thought it was quite average the first time I watched it but my subsequent viewings were much better as I knew what to expect. Same with Iron Man 3, I HATED it the first time but subsequent viewings I knew the surprise and could relax and enjoy it more.

I saw it yesterday and thought it was great. Excellant setpieces,Really funny, cool cameos and the cast know their characters inside out really. My Ranking is Avengers>Thor 2>Cap>Iron man>Thor>Iron man 3> Iron man 2.

Absoloutly wet my pants at the Collector cameo though from what i've read Ronan the accuser and nebula are the main villains working for Thanos and the collector is a lesser bad guy
. I've been reading Marvel comics since i was 5 years old and i'm 28 now and i am absoloutly loving the MCU. it is everything the little kid inside me could have dreamed of. Now if only they could get Spidey and the X-men back.

I'm going to be fanboyish and immature and say Marvel are trampling on Dc in terms of how creative and risky their being with the properties they're adapting.

It's not too outside of the norm. On average a 6.6 translates to about 77% and with so few reviews both numbers are still in flux. We're still at the point where each individual review has a massive impact on the score

Please do explain, but there seem to be quite a few others who shared similar rankings to mine.

Yeah, I totally felt the same lots of the visuals and especially the Dark Elves certianlu gave a Hellboy 2/Pan's Labyrinth kind of feel.

IM3 is a better film but is a much worse comic book movie, if that makes any sense...

I liked this was very good fun. Even better it was great to see my local area get destroyed the whole cinema cheered when it went there.

It started out kinda dark and foreboding... then towards the middle and end went into overdrive goofball territory which i wasn't really a fan of! Some of the humor was good but not all imo. Also: things just went WAY too quick towards the end for my taste after a decent setup earlier...

Overall though, still a solid movie, and i enjoyed it a bit more than the first :)

So, did anyone notice any easter eggs / cameos in the mid credits scene? besides the speaking characters that is.

This is pretty much another (modern) Marvel movie. For me, so far none of the movies have been less than 6/10 in IMDB rating but 8/10 is pretty much where they peak. Very even quality but Marvel movies lack something to make them special. Maybe GotG? Ant-Man considering how much I like Edgar Wright movies?

For me the rating goes something like this:

Avengers > Iron Man = IM3 > Hulk > Thor 2 > Cap Am > Thor > IM 2

With IM3, I noticed that I enjoyed most the moments that were all Shane Black. They need to keep bringing different people on-board to make these movies feel slightly different from each other. Not too different to keep the universe going but they have to go out of the comfort zone a bit more. Maybe that's another reason why I'm more excited for GotG and Ant-Man, they might bring something new to the table.

So, apologies if this has already been asked/answered but...

Is it assumed that Loki killed Odin at the end? If not, what has become of Odin?

Ask me which Shakespeare novel is best
Saw this on Saturday.
My favourite Marvel movie so far. The art direction was fantastic, comedy was brilliant, action scenes were thrilling. So so good.
My rank would be -
Thor 2 > Avengers > Iron Man > Iron Man 3 > Captain America > Thor >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Iron Man 2
Haven't seen the Hulk movies.

Saw this yesterday, really enjoyed it. Good action, plenty of humour, nice performances and some creative ways of avoiding two-blokes-hitting-each-other overkill
loved the hammer in the finale that could never quite get back to Thor as they tumbled between realms
.

I fully doubt they would kill Antony Hopkins off-screen, so assume Loki has imprisoned him somewhere.

With all the realm hopping in the finale i'm hoping he's been sneakily teleported onto another planet. Even Earth/Midgar maybe?Cameo in Guardians of the Galaxy perhaps?

I watched this on Saturday. I am a huge Marvel fanboy and have liked all of the previous films, even though I don't consider them all to be good films. I was in disbelief at how ridiculously bad it was during the second act. Thankfully the last act is fantastic so at least I left the theater with a good impression.

I love Pokken!
Just watched the movie, it was a blast, way better than the first one. more action, less focus on Earth.

Dunno why people are hating on Malekith, he is a better villain than Loki was in the first movie.

8/10

I thought he was serviceable. I felt that he was a little too similar to Hugo Weaving/Red Skull- Christopher Eccleston is a great actor, there just wasnt much for him to do. I liked the visual idea of Kurse though.

Ranking time!
Loki (Thor) > Loki (The Avengers) > Obadiah Stane (Iron Man) > Alrich Killian (Iron Man 3) > Red Skull (Captain America) > Malekith (Thor 2) > Whiplash > (Iron Man 2)
