Kotaku introduces the Amazon Playstation Network Store

Wow, that seems like huge news... what an odd way to reveal it. Can't wait to see how this plays out over time!

Great. Is this how you did it?

1. Buy using a random US address (Alaska Airport is a good one)
2. Redeem using a secondary US PSN account on your playstation
3. login to your normal (EU) account on PSN and play the game?
I used my Borderlinx address with no sales tax for digital purchases on Amazon. I've only redeemed it on my US account on my PS Vita, haven't downloaded it yet on my PS3 but it should work on an EU account with US account as secondary like all other games.

We got linked on Reddit again :p

On topic: I hope this comes to Canada/other countries as soon as possible. This is awesome :)

Ive got a $10 promo discount tied to my account and they wouldn't let me use it on digital games the last time I tried :/ this is not like that correct?

There are no digital games on there. Am I missing something?

Nope. Pretty sure the plan was to add games, etc but it never happened, which is why I hope the PSN store is a damn sight less disappointing...

Actually, there was a time where you could buy XBLA games directly off Amazon. They even had a few prices that were different from LIVE, and offered a few sales in their short life.

One account: http://www.platformnation.com/2009/04/14/amazoncoms-xbla-games-on-sale/

They even did a "Buy 1 copy of the game, get a code to gift free" deal one day: http://www.destructoid.com/buy-one-xbla-game-and-get-one-free-on-amazon-today-136316.phtml

Hopefully, this Sony variant turns out a lot better. I'd love to see bundle pack sales on old content (Like all of "X" Publisher's PS Classics on sale for cheap), as that's one thing the console manufacturers themselves seem to do pretty poorly...

Well I got a mail about this a few hours ago, saying:

"Dear xxx,

Customers who have shown an interest in video games might like to know that Amazon has launched a digital storefront for PS3, PS4, and PS Vita, offering games and DLC that you can start playing instantly.
Learn more."

I don't need Kotaku :p

sooo should I wake up at 9 for the B2G1 free thing? Do the digital versions count for that? I mean I don't see any digital version of PS4 games up right now...

It reads more like Amazon wrote the piece than Kotaku. It's almost as if Kotaku copied and pasted a press release or the intro to the store like you would see on Amazon.

Is Kotaku actually a part of this?

There are a few PS2 Classics like Kessen 3 and Dynasty Tactics 2 for 9.99$. Guess It's time to create that secondary PSN US account.

Cerny is the hardware guy, Shu is the game software guy, amazon partnership like this go to the business guy, either Kaz, House, or Tretton. lol

This what I'm thinking too. Either way, what a huge move. Hopefully comes to the UK/EU soon, and hopefully they don't stop at Amazon. Though Amazon is the best place to start.

It's "Kotaku Deals" so I presume it's a paid ad. Kinda like those shitty things in magazines that are made to look like real articles.

Price isn't the same...

Twisted Metal on PSN is $40.00

Twisted Metal on Amazon is.....$6 bucks.

I believe the latter is a PS1 classic and a bug in the system is making it think its the same game with separate listing for different platforms. I could be wrong, but I'm most likely not

Uh, sure Valve cares. They get a cut out of every sale from their own store, Amazon profits off of sales on Amazon.com. Publishers are the ones giving Amazon Steam DL codes anyway.

Yeah but we don't know the relationship between Sony and Amazon in this instance. Are they essentially going to follow the sales that PSN provides or will they act more in line with what we see on PC?

What I mean in Valve's case is that they do not take a cut off of games that use the Steamworks service. For instance, you could buy Dark Souls from Amazon, GMG, Gamersgate, Nuuvem, etc, and Valve would not get a cut despite the code being redeemed on the service. Valve encourages devs to use Steamworks because it allows for consumers to get on that platform where they will eventually spend money at some point.

In this case it sounds more like a partnership with Sony, whereas on PC Steam acts as a platform for hosting games, since the codes originate from the publishers themselves. I guess we'll see how it shakes out in the coming months, but I wouldn't expect deep discounts or bundles and whatnot.

looks like Sony is following the PC/ Steam system of having multiple stores (Origin, GMG, GOG, Steam, Amazon, gamersgate etc). im glad sony is opening up the playstation platform

Holy shit, this is HUGE! Sony seems to be hitting every nail on the head these days, I'm loving it.

(I'm also extremely excited that this might open up possibilities for even more digital stores to sell PS4-games in the future. Amazon is cool, but it's a bit of a hassle to buy stuff from it as someone who lives in Europe. The more competition the better!)

Sorry but why is this a massive big deal? Microsoft have had their marketplace on the internet for years.

I may be missing something...

Edit: Though on reading, maybe it's because of deals, but still, I stand by my "hmm"
