Kotaku introduces the Amazon Playstation Network Store

It's "Kotaku Deals" so I presume it's a paid ad. Kinda like those shitty things in magazines that are made to look like real articles.

Kotaku Deals is not a paid ad. We have a guy, Shane, who rounds up what he thinks are the best deals every day. He's not on the editorial team, but he plays a lot of games, so he uses his best judgement there. Every time you buy something from one of his posts, the company gets a cut. But I don't think he'd ever recommend something that he didn't actually think was a good deal for readers.

I wonder if Sony will also lower prices on their PSN store too once prices start dropping at other stores or keep it 59.99 indefinitely.

Still this is pretty amazing, and an actual smart way to persuade people to go digital.

This actually seems to be quite different from what happens with Steam. For Steam codes, those are given to retailers through publishers not Valve. This seems to all be happening through Sony.

Incredible, but I'm still not buying console games digitally. Why miss out on potential trade in value?

Not to rain on the parade, but this.

Recently I just traded in Beyond Two Soul's for credit. I got £30 exchange for it. I paid £32 for it on a Tesco deal. It cost me £2 to play the game and I had it for 2 weeks. Can't beat that. Though this Amazon deal is great for people who like to keep their games or like the other conveniences of digital.

For me though, retail boxed games all the way.

Huge, Sony is on a roll. Maybe this means PC/Vita/PS4 crossbuy in the future, this would be great for indie titles.

This is incredibly exciting news. Amazon gets the PC digital games space, their aggressive sales are some of the best in the business. Hard to say how much of that gets applied to the Playstation side of things, but still a savvy move that could really benefit consumers down the road.

This is precisely what MS should have provided when trying to sell digital only. Open up the marketplace similar to steam and allow competition for the gamers dollars.
This is such a win for the PS4 community.

This is great news if it means more potential for discounts.

I still plan on going physical for most games since I like the option of trading in if a game doesn't have a lot of replay value but I'll go digital for games I know I'll be keeping long past any trade-in value.

This is a genuinely big deal. So I can use Amazon credit to buy digital games? I can trade physical goods in and use the credit against digital purchases? Will they match prices on the PSN store, or will there be some differences? Hope it's set to roll out elsewhere too.

Sony making all the right moves. Amazon are literally the perfect partner for a scheme like this.

Read the thread title as "Amazing Playstation Network Store" and I thought, "well, it has to be better than PS3s"

Then I open the thread and see Amazon, lol. Amazing, indeed.

Some people in this thread suggested that game codes are region locked (NA, EU, JP) but work for all countries within a region, even if they have different PSN stores like the eu e.g. Ju wanted to ask whether that is truely the case since for the Vita I cannot even redeem an online pass if I bought a game with one from the same region but different country.

I called this shit early on after the Xbox reveal that Sony was going to be the first to push us into a all digital future. After all that crap Xbox spewed out, took away but showed absolutely no examples of how they were going to push us into the digital age... I called that Sony would be the first to start an open digital marketplace to start competition in the digital field and will also be the first to start digital resale . I'm happy to know I got one right and I know the second is coming soon.

I guess it's great for those who buy most of their games digitally but as others have said personally i prefer having most of my games as hard copies.Still it would be great if the store was region free,it would save me the trouble of buying American PSN cards to buy games from the NA PSN store (mostly for PS1 games).

Anyway this is another very smart move from Sony. They seem to be nailing everything this time around.

Definitely interested in seeing how this plays out. Probably not so important for new releases but could be pretty nice when it cones to buying older games.

Sony making lots of interesting moves this generation.

This is amazing.

Too bad I already purchased Killzone and Knack on the PSN store...but I may need to now pick up AC:4, BF4, and Ghosts with this deal.

Is the B2G1 free + $5 credit limited to the same time span (today at noon and for a few hours) as the physical promotion?

Some people don't trade in games. By the time I trade in a game, the vale of the game has dropped so much it's not even worth it. really considering going digital now
