Pulled the actual plug when the console was locked up and on....didn't try to hold down the power button for a reset.

Turn off (if not off).
Unplug.
Remove HDD.
Plug in.
Turn on.
Safe mode comes up, says no HDD.
Turn off.
Unplug.
Insert HDD.
Plug back in.
Turn on.

You guys do know sata HDD's are hot swappable so there would be no issue with removing it or plugging it back on unless it was writing data but its clearly not doing anything.

He first got into this mess by powering down system while downloading day 1 update. So yes, it was writing.
