NPD Sales Results for October 2013 [Up2: 3DS, 360, Pokemon Combined, GTAV]

Any credible rumors about number of systems shipping for Xbox and PS4 this month? I wonder if 3DS could be #1 in November.

I didn't know NPD was only tracking the US. Doesn't seem to be any information of that in the OP, maybe I missed something.

just common knowledge here about how NPD works. Mediacreate is JP and reports weekly. There is no equivalent for europe, impossible to get accurate numbers out of there.

When I went to buy pokemon, the store had completely run out of X but had a big stack of Y. People think 'X' sounds cooler than Y. I'm calling it.

HEAVY RAIN PS3 SONY Feb-10 219.3K

Is what Heavy Rain sold in its first month, so I'd be surprised if it was charting in the top 10 combined format list.

I doubt the hold off for AC4 on next gen is enough to cover the losses we have seen on current gen.

At least from what has been indicative in other regions, can't say what the percentage drops are like in the US, but in the UK and France it was ~60% down.

It will definitely be down. It would have to sell 1:1 with each PS4 and XB1 to stay even with AC3 and even that might not be enough.

Nintendo needs to do something about this:
We don't know how far apart those platforms are in units, but Wii > Wii U on Skylanders and Wii U beaten by PS3 and 360 on LEGO games...that has to turn around, or Nintendo will have even less 3rd party support.

Hear Hear!

Other than that not basically what the forecasting predicted. Hardware sales down due to imminent release of next-gen. Software sales up, if only because there are more consoles out there than last year. All Quiet on the Western Front. Can't wait for the sales figures for November and December though...I get all excited just thinking about it.

3DS being the top seller is an absolute possibility. It'll be between that and the 360, that's for sure.

How far behind Xbox is 3DS on the year to date sales? I know MS plays semantics with the word console, so as to ignore 3DS sales when they claim #1, but I'm wondering who is on top for the year. If that 166k for Xbox is correct, 3DS had quite a leap on it this month.

Do you have a source for that?
Sure, Pachter himself. Let me quote the note he sent out a couple of days ago:
Sony’s decision to delay its Japanese launch frees up as many as 600,000 launch units for redistribution in the West; we expect to see 1.5 – 1.6 million PS4s in the U.S. on launch day, followed by another 500,000 per month through the end of January. Microsoft may match these quantities, meaning that GameStop is likely to be a huge beneficiary of the supply redistribution.

wal-mart is selling the 4 gig 360 for $100
Danke schön.

Kinda surprised that Lego Marvel and Skylanders are selling better on Wii U than 3DS.

People would buy them, but

From Microsoft...
MS PR said:

I don't have any numbers on me, sorry :P

Haven't the previous two Skylanders done best on Wii? Doesn't surprise me at all that many parents would go for the platform they are familiar with.

I think 3DS has been #1 since about April, so I'm sure it is higher than the 360 YTD, especially when this month and last month's numbers are taken into account.

But the Wii has been a dead platform for 2-3 years now. The Wii U is basically losing to a zombie. I mean, that's a bit hyperbolic, but you get the idea, right?

Xbox 360 YTD October 2013 = 1.8mm
3DS YTD October 2013 = 2.0mm

It wouldn't surprise me at all if most parent's don't know the figures aren't locked to a platform once they've been used.

[NDS] Pokémon HeartGold / SoulSilver (Nintendo) {March 14, 2010} - 1,781,200

[3DS] Pokémon X / Y (Nintendo) {October 12, 2013} - 1,700,000

Shame that there isn't old enough info about original Gold and Silver. Would make sense that it has the record after the Pokemon mania started with Red and Blue.

That's actually great for X & Y then. Beating every Pokemon launch apart from the DS entries, and being fairly close to 2 of the DS entries (Diamond/Pearl & HeartGold/SoulSilver). Black & White's launch was ridiculous around the world though...

Dat Fad... Goddamn, what a strong franchise.

people still have Wiis even if people aren't buying it new now. It's not exactly surprising there are still sales on it. It just means the audience already has the system. it's a children's game and parent don't care what resolution their kids are playing at. Since they already have the Wii and a Wii U costs 300, they are going to choose the Wii version

Wow, I guess I completely underestimated the effect of Pokemon & the 2DS. 452k is awesome!

Although how much did the 3DS sell in September btw?

Yup. The system basically being dead means little to people who only use the system every once and a while.

I know that the 4GB 360 is on sale for BF, but there is a mighty big stigma attached to the console after several games have required installs.

I'm betting the 2/3DS will be #1 in November.

Damn . . . . it is up from last year but really only due to GTA and Pokemon. Many of the rest of those titles are down from the previous year's version.

I guess there is a fair amount of waiting for the next gen stuff.

the people buying a $99 Xbox won't know/care about installs.

It's a box that goes under the tree. Perfect kids present.

That's why new games like Super Mario 3D World will give those individuals more to think about for $300. Same decision you'd have to make for a Xbone or PS4, is it worth the $$$ ultimately

There's also the fact the 2DS is much closer to the $100 price normally ($130) than the 360 4GB is ($200). So for starters the 2DS has the benefit of not only selling well on Black Friday, but just having a much lower price point to begin with.

Keep in mind this does not include downloads from the e shop. It might be above that indeed.

Yeh that is true. Pokemon may be above Diamond & Pearl with the downloads. There's no way it's close to Black & White though since that'd require 800k downloads.

Good for Arkham Origins! Absolutely love it, best story, representation of Batman, and has some amazing "Batman epic" moments the other two lacked. Highly recommend it.
