VGXtreeeeme nominees are up (GOTY: Mario, TLOU, GTA5, Bioshock, Tomb Raider?)

Played all except for Mario. I'd go with TLOU, with GTA5 a close second.

edit: and there has to be better games out there than Tomb Raider. It wasn't bad by any means, but not all that great either.

I say TLOU loses both Action Adventure and Soundtrack to GTAV. You can not possibly match the "action adventure" scope in GTAV, and that soundtrack had so much money/work poured into it.

The soundtrack was one of the more dissapointing elements of GTA5 imo. Nothing really clicked with me until the credits where there where 2 good songs. The licensed radio soundtrack did nothing for me though. But then since vice city i've thought that of all GTA's.

Yeah, but WE are voting on them. If the winners were chosen by reviewers there would be no problem, but it's just wrong that the public is allowed to vote for a game that nobody of them has played yet.

I've seen the trailer! I know that Mario is indeed the GOTY! :P
Good point.

GTAV and Tomb Raider just feel wrong to me, Sure Bioshock Infinite was a huge disappointment, but it had a premise that was at least thought provoking and memorable. Even if doesn't even hold a candle to the original Bioshock. And while The Last of Us had a couple of parts that I would consider bad, the rest of the game more than makes up for it to be a great game.

GTA V may have few gameplay improvements over IV, but Rockstar didn't do anything dramatically different from the rest of the series. And the story one of the Rockstar's worst this generation. Oh, and let's not forget all the technical issues that came with the game, which for a developer as big as Rockstar, it's pretty inexcusable.

Tomb Raider is a mediocre game at best. The shooting mechanics work well but all the encounters feel the same, there is little to no challenge to them. It's padded with loads of useless collectibles as a throwaway something for the player to do. AND it has a very token level up upgrade system where you do gain experience to gain upgrades and these upgrades are shallow as in they only slightly make your weapon more powerful instead of being a choice that changes games (like Human Revolution for example)

Personally, I would have loved to see The Wonderful 101 up there, it's by far the most well designed game this year so far but what do I know ? *shrugs*

GTA V to win easily.

A game of that scope and ambition comes along every 6 years, it jst blew everything away in terms of gameplay, scale. The word was incredible as well.

Tomb Raider was good but not nearly on the same level as the other nominees. It played well, looked decent and completely failed narratively. Hardly the stuff GOTYs are made off.

Will vote for Mario because of fanboy reasons and the fact that my voting for a game that isn't out yet will lead to no real negative consequence.

I don't really care for any of the games in the Most Anticipated-list...

Where is my infamous?!

Bumped out for "The Stick of Truth" apparently.

Infamous is pretty much the ps4's showcase exclusive for the first half of 2014 so it's baffling as to why it's not included.

Tomb Raider GOTY

Loving the RPG and Handheld category though.

Wouh, Troy Baker nominated twice for the best voice actor. o_o
Earned it. Both Booker and Joel are great characters, and the effort Baker puts in for them helps tremendously.

As for the rankings I'm very torn on TLOU and Bioshock for GOTY. Tomb Raider was good, but I got bored by the end for whatever reason. Sad to see 3DS not get any shine for GOTY. Zelda or FE would be nice to see.

The fact that the worst game of the year (TR) is even nominated for GOTY is pure embarrassment. I don't even care if it doesn't win, this entire show is rendered pointless already just for nominating it.

The shoe horning of WiiU features negates that statement immediately. The main game is solid as hell and pretty damn excellent, but the games addiction for offscreen play sections is annoying and brings down the experience.

This worries me more than comforts me. Makes me feel like our votes probably mean jack. Not like I felt like they did all that much before but still. Also don't think they should include games released within a month of the show, sometimes a game feels better while it's still fresh than after you've played it and had time to let it process a while. This show would be better placed in late January or early February. That way people have ample time to play, and December releases don't get screwed altogether.

Anyway, I'm hoping GOTY goes to TLOU and most anticipated to Destiny.

The votes don't factor in to the awards except for Most Anticipated.

They just know that people like voting so they put a vote capability on the page to get website traffic and encourage people to watch the show.

Nowhere near worst game of the year. Did you even play TLOU? TERRIBLE!
:p

I hate these things because I can't vote in my actual opinions on any of these and instead I am supposed to choose from a list of games that were destined to end up here before even releasing?

Pass.

It's sort of bullshit that a games like Super Mario 3D Land and The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds get an automatic entry.

I'm sure they're deserving, but people can't be so sure of that so soon after release, can they? And why no PS4 entries?

Oh cute, they included 3D World so they can pretend that they would ever give a Nintendo game a fair chance.

Nintendo games don't come with enough guns or moneyhats for the Dewritos crew.

So is Gran Turismo 6 gonna suck or something? It's not on the best racing game list.

Edit: Nvm, it comes out the day before the show airs.

It's not shoe horning, they're only taking advantage of the machine's features.

What do you think should be added to the list to represent the PS4?
Killzone?

I think that 3D World and Zelda: ALBW work because those are not user-selected. The judges have played them, even though we haven't.

I don't understand why people are voting. Does this factor into the real awards voted critics or is it just for a seperate 'peoples choice' award.

Because if it's the former, then that is stupid as GTAV is going to have a massive advantage being on two platforms.

What is up with this crap? Keighley already confirmed that the judges have been playing the game for the last month, the game comes out THIS FRIDAY, and the awards aren't until December 7th. There is no controversy here. Stahp.

Controversy? What are you going on about? I know the Council have already played the game and that the game is about to come out. Still doesn't take away from my original comment of my wanting a cutoff date.

Pretty damn good list if you ask me. Tomb Raider is a little random. Not a bad game but it's no where near on par with the rest of the list.

With that said, TLOU and GTAV are amazing. I'll be happy with either winning. But if i had to give an edge it would be TLOU mainly because of the story.

Because every exclusive PS4 launch title was bad-to-mediocre? Same with XBox. Battlefield and Ghosts are the only real "Next gen“ nominees.

I have to imagine they were counting on Watch_Dogs to fill that last GOTY spot. Tomb Raider is solid, but not really expected.

No Smash Bros for Most Anticipated Game?

mj-laughing.gif

Smash Bros WiiU/3DS will out sale every game on that list

Anticipated and sales are two very different things.

I don't mind Tomb Raider on the list, it has a snow balls chance in hell to win but I honestly couldn't think of a game that should replace it.

Hyperbole much?
