Making the games set in high school is what makes it great. The juxtaposition of the life of high school with the serious tones the games deal with is what makes Persona imo.

What it makes it is like every other of the literally hundreds of other animes featuring highschoolers who secretly have to save the world

Dream Persona 5:

Just like Persona 4 Golden.
2 year calendar.
First year is final year at high school.
Second year is at college.
Supernatural things start happening in the high school town.
College year is in another part of Japan, supernatural phenomena follows protag.
Protag and his friends basically turn into the ghost busters but with shadows.
Only 4 of the protag's friends come to college with him, depending on your relationship with them.
Make new friends at college, a couple of whom are past characters.

I'd buy it, especially if Chie was at the college.

I hope I get to be a fetus.
Your dream might come true.

As opposed to the hundreds of games with adults who must save the world?

Heh I'd love a Persona not set in Japan, but mainly I hope they don't go with another high school setting. I played 4 and now i'm on 3 and I can't see another high school setting being interesting. Changing the age rage would have huge impacts on the theme and character development.

I vote for a Persona set during a midlife crisis!

Looks like some people need to brush up on their MegaTen history. Persona is a spin-off of Shin Megami Tensei: If... which was purposefully a high school setting.

Persona is High School
Devil Survivors is Apocalypse
Mainline SMT is Post-Apocalypse
etc etc

I thought its already very clear the branching between the franchise are

College students still going to school? Dont see that being a major trope in media outside of CW shows.

It won't be different then we currently have. Persona characters already act more mature then actual high school students. I don't see how making them go to college will change anything. You are comparing reality vs a game which doesn't work.

I wouldn't mind a Persona with a cast of characters around the age of Catherine's main cast. Part of the reason Catherine's story was so great was that its older cast allowed them to tackle a different set of issues, and I think it would be great to expand the series that way.

The problem is that it misses the point of Persona, in a way; if we consider the origins of Persona with "Shin Megami Tensei: If...", the point was to be Shin Megami Tensei, but in a high school setting. The whole SMT in high school part is necessary to be faithful to the original idea, really.

As much as I'd like them to, I can't imagine Persona 5 moving away from high school.

To be fair, that fetus image could be related to any number of Atlus things. I'm choosing to believe that the buttons on the bottom are for editing a character.

Forget a college setting or high school setting. Let me be a salary man or a guy working as a programmer like Catherine where I spend most of my time working, at a bar, dating, etc.

Better yet, it should be in space like in Strange Joruney. So we can control a football playing king in space.....with a mustache.

SJ isn't set in space though.

They'll be too clinically depressed and tired to do anything. Just look at Catherine, the main character is one wrong move away from jumping off a building. :P

And yet P2 handled adulthood so very well.

Ha... But yeah, while I can see college, I don't see the persona games moving into a fully adult setting. High schoolers have a ton more free time than adults, so you can't really have a real world present-day setting where the programmer saves the world. I like Catherine and all, but the very way the game played, Vincent really didn't do anything besides go to work, drink at the bar, talk to K(C)atherine and sleep.

edit;

And yet P2 handled adulthood so very well.

P2 and P1 were weird. Played both, they were fun, but most of the characters were high schoolers. Maya pretty much dropped her job to deal with the problem at hand. If you're talking about a P3 or P4 type of system, it wouldn't have worked.

I had no idea people that liked Persona had so many issues with it. I mean, they're not perfect games but some of you want P5 to be something else entirely.

I just want a natural sequel, no need to change what's working so well. If it comes with shoehorned stuff like an open world or Bioware-like moral choices, I'll die more than a little inside.

Too many to quote, but everyone who said it would be awesome to have characters more in line with those from Catherine, I agree. I also agree that we probably won't see that. One thing we can bet on, however, is that it will probably be really, really good.

To be fair on the moral choice thing, shin megami has a lot of those(even if persona mostly doesn't), though they hide the moral choice meter. So it wouldn't be Atlus copying bioware.

Well for one more adult relationships instead of the whole "senpai blushed at you" bullshit.... maybe going to parties or bars to drink...or dealing with more responsibilities outside of when presidents day is. Also there are more adult problems in college and life is just more complex than the simple day to day humdrum of highschool.

Being stuck in highschool like every other anime is not original or unique.

Sounds lame. Leave that for Catherine.

Sounds awesome. Catherine's narrative could be a natural evolution of Atlus's story-telling.

I actually do think a Persona style game in Catherine's setting with characters in the same vein of Vincent's group would be really interesting, but that's not what I think of when I hear "Persona."

Catherine isn't less cartoony than P3-P4 in the end anyway, sure its nice to have batshit event in the middle of your relation, but they're ending thing is not much different way than what Persona SL does.

I mean EP specifically. Tatsuya's the odd man out there.

What the hell is up with you and you thinking persona series is some kind dating sim?

After putting 30hrs into Persona 4 and 3?....entire games are essentially based on going on dates with all the NPCs...saying only what is the obvious choice...(should I comfort her or call her an idiot?).... a lot of the game out side of the dungeons is based on dating sim games

Sounds lamer than spending hours hoping to get a kiss on the cheek from a 16 yr old?

seriously, what game have you playing because it sure isn't Persona.

Also, your age doesn't matter, it's a videogame, have fun and stop thinking you're supposed to be a certain age to enjoy something.

Did you choose to date the characters in P4? If so, why?
