I've made excuses for nobody. He was a dick in the videos. I've said that. Find me saying he was in the right. All I've expressed is
1) confusion over the typical GAF outrage that the world isn't pretty and perfect
Why are you confused over a reaction that you classify as typical? Surely you aren't feigning ignorance to score a cheap rhetorical point?
2) that it's laughable to say companies making some of the most violent game content out there are "Family friendly"
It might be laughable but that is exactly what these companies are doing.
3) and that a company that hires women to be strippers but not quite probably gives two shits about how some guy talks to them.
So they were asking for it because of the way they were dressed? So it's ok for this guy to engage in performance misogyny because the people who hired these women are hypothetical assholes? Oh and pro-tip: Strippers are people who take off their clothes for people for money. Not people who dress in video game themed costume at gaming conventions. Confusing, I know, but there it is.
4) and the irony in pointing out someone's misogyny by calling them a twat.
Now we get to the meat of the matter. A few points. You are trying to score a point here by saying that there is a misogyny foul on both sides. So offsetting penalties, pick up the flags, and just replay the down. But that is supremely silly. You can't just say that the two things are equitable. Matt called a guy a "Twat" not exactly above board sure and you can absolutely say that using "twat" as a pejorative is a misogynistic thing to do. Compare that with KSI walking up to strangers and directly asking them sexually explicit questions. KSI is basically trading other people's dignity and sense of safety for youtube hits. It goes beyond misogyny to straight up abuse.
And even then, even if you argue that what KSI was doing broke no laws and is a perfectly acceptable way to produce entertainment, that wasn't even the core point Lees was making. He wasn't even questioning if this content was acceptable in general, he was focused whether it was appropriate within the context of KSI having professional agreements with multinational corporations.
Not a single excuse made for this guy. I'd never heard of him before this and don't think he's that funny (although I did chuckle at one of his jokes). I've got no stake in this other than being entertained during a slow work day by GAF reactions.
Oh so you didn't think it was funny, but you laughed, and you don't have a dog in this fight, but you keep fighting anyway.
Wow, Matts concern for Microsoft is really touching. he's so concerned for their well being he's taken the time to record, edit and publish a video expressing his worry that a youtube personality has made a video 18 months ago and had some humour that was unsavoury 18 months ago. It is so touching the concern that he has for this giant corporation, I bet he isn't even getting any benefit from this at all! God bless you mate.
And totalbiscuit calling the guy a twat, for objectifying women? Classy and not even slightly ironic.
Just for my records, what
is the statute of limitations on recording yourself treating total strangers like blow-up dolls?
