Videogamer.TV: KSI and Xbox: Why Microsoft Got it Wrong

I see His point, but I think it is flawed , just because MS,EA or BT use this KSI to present some of there gigs, it does not mean they condone or agree with every single thing he has done and just because KSI has done some silly pranks does not mean he is the rolling stones of the current youth generation, even if familys did see him do some silly pranks any sensible person would just think ''yeah ksi may act the clown sometimes but hes not seriously offending or hurting anyone and he also plays a lot of fifa'', people are not going to be like ''my got ksi has done has done evil and horrid things to people and because he presents stuff for MS,BT and EA those companies are evil to''

No no no, that is a stupid and over exaggerated and this videogame game guy has not caught out MS, where in reality he has made this flawed and over exaggerated opinion video that only a handful of hardcore gamers will see and will forget about very quickly.

This guys video will hvae less of an effect on MS then the pieces of corn in Steve ballmers crap.

ven if familys did see him do some silly pranks any sensible person would just think ''yeah ksi may act the clown sometimes but hes not seriously offending or hurting anyone and he also plays a lot of fifa'',
I've never heard of the guy before this thread and my reaction was "Jesus that asshole needs a smack in the mouth." Guess I'm not a sensible person, but in my defense, how should I know or care how much fifa the man plays?

Well, MS said they aren't going to hire him anymore. Is that more or less impactful than Ballmer's feces?

Nobody's suggesting the latter. But they are suggesting that there should be some consequences for acting like KSI does. And if these companies do not hold KSI accountable, then how does that reflect on the industry?

And if we're discussing whether something will have impact or not, it doesn't matter. Nothing we talk about on NeoGAF matters. We'll complain about it anyway.

This dude is about to learn taking shit off the internet can be louder than one tiny videogame expose from a site no one knows about.

KSI's target audience is 13 year olds who play FIFA.

Microsoft's target audience is 13 year olds who play FIFA.

How is it not Sony's?

How is it not Sony's?

Sony didn't spend millions on exclusive content for FIFA, and didn't they package FIFA FOR FREE with their Day One PS4s. Microsoft did. I'm not saying that's the answer, but it suggests Microsoft see 'something' in FIFA.

They see Sony's success in Europe.

KSI will be representing these companies, whatever controversy he is involved in will be linked back to these companies and can damage their image. Razer basically had to release a statement saying that they didn't want to be linked to his actions. Also, how is asking a random woman "where are your tits" not seriously offending someone?

Wow, Matts concern for Microsoft is really touching. he's so concerned for their well being he's taken the time to record, edit and publish a video expressing his worry that a youtube personality has made a video 18 months ago and had some humour that was unsavoury 18 months ago. It is so touching the concern that he has for this giant corporation, I bet he isn't even getting any benefit from this at all! God bless you mate.

And totalbiscuit calling the guy a twat, for objectifying women? Classy and not even slightly ironic.

welp

We already knew the guy was a dickface, no need for him to confirm it.
At least this resulted in Microsoft officially distancing themselves from him. KSI and his crew can have fun trying to bully that burned bridge away. And sites reporting it. Possibly to current and potential partners. Let it spread.
Good going douche.

Well not if the copyright strike against the channel stopping them from making money from youtube videos for 6 months and messed up a channel deal is true.

KSI rep said:
...move away from any unfortunate content from the very early days in his career, when [he was] just a young lad out to entertain mates and early viewers.

He wishes to apologise for any offence the video of 15 months ago may have caused...

I don't feel it's right to judge someone based on an indiscretion which was pro actively removed and apologised for shortly after. Especially at such a young age.

I like how the PR person felt the need to put it in months to get a bigger number than 1.

Eurogamer didn't cite Videogamer.com or Matt Lees for that bit.
I don't know how Youtube's messed up copyright system works. Getting a strike is serious though, I know that much. Think you get three of them?

I just find all disingenuous when it's coming from Matt Lees.

Making jokes about a tragic death of someone seems to be acceptable where the person has no reply or recourse.

That's fine somehow?

I also think it's strange that Lees thinks it's some sort of expose of a person who is so widely "known" on youtube, as if he's discovered something 4 million people and KSI's sponsors haven't.

Bit baffled to say the least.

Come on now, there's a difference between filthy satire and being a misogynist. Sure, I've been known to make tasteless jokes about almost everything, but in my mind comedy is all about coming close to the line but never crossing it - if the joke is that you're being hateful, it's a shit joke. Most of the stuff in that Diana vid are jokes in reference to the awful film about her life.

Secondly - and most importantly - I don't hide that this is who I am. Regular Features (The explicit podcast I record) has my name all over it, and is clearly mentioned on my CV. Yes, I'm a filthy scumbag - and that's why you won't see me appear on CBBC.

At no stage was my video an attempt to appear holier-than-thou, I just wanted to expose the truth about KSI to a wider audience. Microsoft evidently didn't know about him, and I doubt BT Sport of CBBC do either.

The guy is absolute on point, posters who are knee jerking at this video need to take a moment and use their mom given privileges to work. You have a functioning brain, you have common sense, you aren't straight up stupid. Do the math and stop aligning yourself with unreasonable behavior.

You can be funny and crude, you can be funny and an asshole. But you can't just be an asshole, and if being an asshole is all it takes for you to laugh then... realize that's something you've carried over from childhood, and you've never been able to outgrow the natural response children have when they see others being assholes with others.

I've made excuses for nobody. He was a dick in the videos. I've said that. Find me saying he was in the right. All I've expressed is

1) confusion over the typical GAF outrage that the world isn't pretty and perfect

Why are you confused over a reaction that you classify as typical? Surely you aren't feigning ignorance to score a cheap rhetorical point?
see what I did there?

2) that it's laughable to say companies making some of the most violent game content out there are "Family friendly"

It might be laughable but that is exactly what these companies are doing.

3) and that a company that hires women to be strippers but not quite probably gives two shits about how some guy talks to them.

So they were asking for it because of the way they were dressed? So it's ok for this guy to engage in performance misogyny because the people who hired these women are hypothetical assholes? Oh and pro-tip: Strippers are people who take off their clothes for people for money. Not people who dress in video game themed costume at gaming conventions. Confusing, I know, but there it is.

4) and the irony in pointing out someone's misogyny by calling them a twat.

Now we get to the meat of the matter. A few points. You are trying to score a point here by saying that there is a misogyny foul on both sides. So offsetting penalties, pick up the flags, and just replay the down. But that is supremely silly. You can't just say that the two things are equitable. Matt called a guy a "Twat" not exactly above board sure and you can absolutely say that using "twat" as a pejorative is a misogynistic thing to do. Compare that with KSI walking up to strangers and directly asking them sexually explicit questions. KSI is basically trading other people's dignity and sense of safety for youtube hits. It goes beyond misogyny to straight up abuse.

And even then, even if you argue that what KSI was doing broke no laws and is a perfectly acceptable way to produce entertainment, that wasn't even the core point Lees was making. He wasn't even questioning if this content was acceptable in general, he was focused whether it was appropriate within the context of KSI having professional agreements with multinational corporations.

Not a single excuse made for this guy. I'd never heard of him before this and don't think he's that funny (although I did chuckle at one of his jokes). I've got no stake in this other than being entertained during a slow work day by GAF reactions.

Oh so you didn't think it was funny, but you laughed, and you don't have a dog in this fight, but you keep fighting anyway.

Just for my records, what is the statute of limitations on recording yourself treating total strangers like blow-up dolls?

I saw a couple of this dude's videos months ago, the first being back when the Harlem Shake fad started and I got sent a link to his video which was funny in a bit disturbing kind of way and then some other one with FIFA that I've forgotten about, I didn't even remember until FIFA got brought up here that it was that guy.

MS and these other companies knew what they were getting into but they didn't care, they just saw that he was "popular" on the internet and most of his subscribers were likely their target audience the content of his videos or what they would look to be endorsing were of no concern to them.
