Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | November 2013 | Tearaway into a new world

So how do you like the new screen? When you use it not side by side with the oled, does it really seem quality?
It's great, same high ppi as the OLED of course and on par with most good smartphone/tablet LCDs in the last couple of years imo.

I really can't tell the difference 5 minutes into playing it, only during direct side by side comparisons. So I doubt it'll affect you once you get used to it. If I'm ever in the market for another vita it'll definitely be another 2000, thing's been going all day on a single charge so far.

Anyone streaming videos from their PC to their Vita using the content manager?
Sometimes it works like a bliss gor me and sometimes I have stutter, a lot of buffering and even errors or app crashes.
Sometimes I can play the files right away, sometimes it takes minutes to load.

It doesn't seem to depend on the quality of the files.

Sony really needs to make everything about video playback better. They are trying to market the Vita as a multimedia device and with Vita TV it will be even more important.
They need to add MKV support, even their BD players do it and DLNA is also missing since launch.

So i guess my post got lost in all the tear away excitement but i would really appreciate your thoughts and advice on this

My first post

Hey Vita Gaf

I'd like to say I have just joined you guys and for a short time I did after finally caving at the £140 Asda deal and seeing tearaway. Its a great little piece of kit and I really enjoyed the short time I had with it

Unfortunately though the first Vita I bought had a piece of dust stuck under the screen I tried to ignore it but i just could not stop seeing it so i returned it and got a new one. The second Vita then had a dead pixel and again I knew I was going to keep on noticing it so i returned that one for a refund as the store didn't have any more stock. Now both were tiny the dust being about the size of a dead pixel and the second only having the one dead pixel I saw in the very short time I owned it.

I understand there will be a mura effect on the screen this isn't a problem but I'm afraid i cannot accept tints, dead pixels, dust or lines.

I'm sure many of you think I'm being picky but I have a PSP with a couple of dead pixels on it from launch and it bugs me to this day just can't help it.

So now I'm not sure what to do is it worth trying another one or is my insistence on this going to mean I'm just waisting my time?

Thanks all you lovely Vita Gaffers

and the second

So after kind words from a couple of Gaffers thanks to both for you I tried my luck and ordered another one...

Unfortunately this one also had a piece of dust trapped under the screen so I have returned it again frankly i really love the little piece of kit its great but i will not accept defects no matter how small in a brand new product.

So just a message to anyone considering going for the £140 pound sports megapack from Asda expect it to have some sort of fault with the screen and don't expect their customer service to be overly helpful either.

In short I am about ready to give up as having 3 in a row goes beyond bad luck and into poor quality control Sony sort it out!

So a couple more quick questions (and don't go looking if you haven't already noticed it or your just gonna regret it) but has anyone else noticed dust trapped under there vita screen (its a tiny little white spec when the vita is off and a black one when it is on) or is this just a bad batch of vitas?

I am now looking and considering the game bundle with Tearaway, LBP, a Lego game and a 16gb memory card so can anyone tell me what game are like for accepting returns because I will not settle with a substandard screen on a device so reliant on it?

Thanks again Vita Gaf

Most Wanted Vita for $19.99

yay or nay?

Yay, it's a good racer and the best the Vita has to offer.
It may not be Burnout Paradise, which is why it gets (deservedly) much shit but it is still good. The graphics combined with the open world are nice and just rooming the city is fun.

So i guess my post got lost in all the tear away excitement but i would really appreciate your thoughts and advice on this

You just had incredible bad luck with your Vitas. The screens are fine normally except the mura effect.

I also have a dead pixel but nearly never read of anyone else having one. We are just the unlucky minority.

I'm afraid to check with how many issues you've had...but I had a PSP with a dead pixel or two for years so I gave my Vita a very thorough check when I bought it. Even while I had my second one. I've seen both of my friend's vitas too and none of them have dust under the screen. That sounds really odd that you've had so many dodgy ones in a row :S My second vita had a yellowish tint though - got it from amazon, returned it.

Try a different asda perhaps? I'm not sure what you mean about "what game are like for accepting returns" - the vita I returned to amazon was a bundle and it came with a digital code for CoD and I was still able to return it months later due to yellow tinted screen (not even sure if that's just a calibration thing they changed later on as I got my first one quite early on, but side by side and switching between the two vitas was annoying).

Good luck, it's worth it dude, keep going... LBP and Tearaway are fantastic on Vita

I'll post this here since it seems more relevant... but anyone having a hard time getting back touch to work properly when in remote play?

I tried playing BF4 and it kept knifing and spotting/yelling out commands because it kept registering back touches even when I would place the Vita on the ground.

That's really strange, even when the Vita was face up?

I would just restart the vita. That doesn't sound right.

I was going to recommend a grip for playing BF4 in remote play (which is still a good idea, especially for the backpad) but that sounds like a bit of glitching to me? :S

I've not got a PS4 so can't say from experience if happened before, but one time a few months back the Vita's rear touchpad stopped working until I restarted the Vita.

Most Wanted Vita for $19.99

yay or nay?

I like it but online is gimped for me with freezes, have to play it offline otherwise I go mad. Pretty sure it's because I have a lot on my friendslist with the game (unfixed bug). $20 tho, I put in like 70 hours :P But I loved just speeding around in the open world and connected roads. It's not amazing design, decent game, best open handheld world racer for sure.

All Vitas I've seen have been perfect (aside from MURA), and remained so (unlike PSPs which seem to get dust under the screen at the drop of a hat). Which leads me to think that:

IIRC all ASDA stores were selling refurbished Vita's online recently. I even posted about it here earlier. I think that's the reason he keeps getting bad ones.

Or even worse, they're selling returned Vitas with precisely those defects. I'm wondering if you can get that dust cleaned somewhere, or even contact Sony directly.

Man, Tearaway is so beautiful! Absolutely love the art in this. Hope it doesn't get too buried in all the next gen news and hype because this is definitely one everybody should play.

ShopTo failed me. Tearaway didn't turn up, i ordered and paid on Wednesday and they only sent me the dispatch email this morning. FML

Same here but with Zelda. :(
Ordered Tearaway from Amazon and it also didn't show up.
It's the last time I'm paying more for shipping to not even get the game on launch.
Cancelled my Mario from shop to and will pick it up Friday as I go to the local store for my PS4.

Gotta get this today. My 32gb is full so might get retail copy.

Next Tuesday.

Who is making the December thread?

WE NEED TO PUT THE PROJECTED FREEBIE DATES IN THE OP. I'll even write the section if someone wants me to once it's announced.

I went back 1000 posts or so and looked:

When is SS going free on PS+?

Next Tuesday.

Ok, I'm signing up for PS+ again this month. Before I do though, is Soul Sacrifice still available for free download this month? I don't see it up on the PS store on Vita or PS3\PS4. Maybe I'm retarded?

No ur sane. It will be up for plus next week.

I don't have a Vita and PS3. I am checking the SEN website and under Vita, Soul Sacrifice is not listed as free for PS+?

I only see Uncharted, Hotline Miami, Oddworld, Wipeout 2048, Pinball and gravity Rush. I tried to add Gravity Rush and it got added to my Download list.

Next week.

Probably.

Do you guys know when Soul Sacrifice goes on PS+?

Next store update

Probably next Tuesday.

With how we're getin more new vita owners the subttle should reflect that.
2014 may very well be the year of the vita if were lucky.

That probably still won't solve the problem since very few people actually read the OPs. :(

Zero's right.

A bagillion people earlier in the thread even asked what freebies we were getting this month.

Questions:

First off, and anyone feel free to answer but this is aimed at Dave: how comfy is the og Vita without grips? I ask Dave as iirc we are both taller chaps and I don't want my hands smanging the rear touch screen all the time.

Also, how good is 16gb for now? Thinking Killzone, Dragons Crown, LBP and then just indies and PSP stuff for now.

Tempted by the new bundles and not sure I want ti import the 2000 right now as the Vat will be a ton. Will grab a 64gb when they hit over here.

Edit: apologies for taking so long to reply posted this in the morning before going out for the day.

Are those ASDA consoles refurbished or open boxes ?

IIRC all ASDA stores were selling refurbished Vita's online recently. I even posted about it here earlier. I think that's the reason he keeps getting bad ones.

Nope all brand new sealed units. like i said specifically the sports mega-pack with a 16gb memory card. The first shipped after purchasing online the second a replacement given to me in-store when returning after some arguing with customer services about giving me a replacement rather than a refund and the third another one shipped to me after getting a refund for the second faulty one in store and having to re-order online.

Link to the exact one I purchased: http://direct.asda.com/PlayStation-Vita---Sports-Racing-Mega-Pack/003726780,default,pd.html

though the deal has now ended so the price has gone up

edit 2: I'm guessing you guys asking this are not from the uk like myself as Asda sell no refurbished or used vitas

I'm not touching Asda again for anything that might need returning there service was a joke to the point that it bent long distance selling regulations. plus the deal I was trying to get has now ended.

What I meant about retuning a product to Game is are they gonna give me a hard time returning a product for what could be considered a incredibly minor defect or are they generally very good in this department?

Im certain this is not the case all Vitas I received were sealed with all codes in-tact unscratched and unused with all correct packaging in place.

I really want a vita but dear god this is making it difficult.

PSP games run anywhere from 100mb or so up to over 1gb.
Killzone, if you buy a card, will require 1.2gb of space for the patch. It's a full 4.6gb or more digitally.
LBP digitally is smaller than you'd think. 1.8gb or so, maybe?
Dragon's Crown, digitally, is right around 1gb.

Can't empathize enough how well PSOne games look on Vita's screen.
I'm having a blast playing Breath of Fire IV on it, looks goooorgous.

2014 may very well be the year of the vita if were lucky.

the only way next year is the year of the vita, is if nintendo discontinues the 3ds and drops out of the handheld race (for it to be the year of the vita in japan) and for the ps4 and xbox one factories to be destroyed so that there can't be any stock in the wild for all of next year for the rest of the world.

I like the vita, but there is no way it's going to be a huge hit even if ps4 remote play takes off... as sony is still lacking two major things to make a successful handheld... their mario... and their pokemon.

Cool thanks, should suffice for now then. I assume it's pretty easy to move games / saves to new cards using a PC and the content manager?

easy enough.... though super slow... like... I can redownload them at the same rate or faster slow lol (for reference i can download a 3gb game in 10-15min)

16gb is all fun and games til you download your first 3gb game.

DJMax convinced me I need a bigger stick.

Yeah, this is just for a few months though, I am pretty picky on games as well. Going all digital on a 64gb once they launch in the UK.

I assume getting a 2000 later, you just set up your PSN and put your card in? No system xfer needed?

I hope everyone has bought Tearaway by now. If not, what the hell is wrong with you?
giant backlog of games resulting me to not buy many games day 1.
the game doesn't look fun to me, I have never been a fan of touch controls and tearaway does not look like it will change my mind. My favorite use of touch controls? Advancing text in the ace attorney games... yeah... that's it lol.
finally... it strikes me as a game that will be added to the ps+ line up next june or so... so what minor interest I have in it can easily wait until then.

If I felt I must buy a vita game right now I would be buying Ys instead :P
