I kind of go back in forth with Macho Man. I think his backstory is perfect for him, but I think he could of been a little bit less cheesy.
Soda Popinski (my fav opponent) looks amazing though. Totally nailed that look.

It's Macho's face that bothers me the most. He just doesn't look right. Which is funny because he looks okay in the cutscene pictures. That face really releases the bogus. His upper body isn't macho enough either. The cheese doesn't bother me, I think it suits him fine, he has always been presented as a pompous egoist.
Popinski does look great. All the characters that are just straight forward updates look marvelous. Other examples of that would be King Hippo, Glass Joe, Piston Honda and Great Tiger.

Yeah, just use Peach as a base for basic animations/skeleton-rig/whatever, but alter her enough to become a character in her own right - like Luigi and Mario.

I see potential in that list. Shurikens? Nice. Eventhough Ness has a bat id like to see him with a bat as well. Maybe even with a baseball as an optional projectile that vary in range depending on your timing.

Takamaru is the only retro character I can think of that wouldn't seem forced. The samurai archetype is surprisingly unused in Smash Bros., the character's made a bunch of cameo appearances in recent years, and he would inherit Disk System representation from the no longer retro Pit. His game was also classified in Australia earlier this year, so it's possible a character announcement could be made alongside Murasame Castle being put on the Virtual Console. What better way to introduce Takamaru to the West?
Also, Link vs. Samus vs. Pit vs. Takamaru would be an awesome event match.

Considering how much of Galaxy's godly OST we got in Brawl, I'm not expecting it.

Honestly a lot could be done for him, just all has to be placed accordingly. His Yo-Yo is the first weapon.
Later on in the game he gets them upgraded twice. IIRC. When down to specfic amount of health, the Yo-Yo changes with greater length and power. Which could be his mechanic.
The bat could be the side-tilt instead of smash like Ness. I could see the Bolas being his side-b, doing no damage but holds people in place for you to attack them. Down-B with the reflective mirror.
