Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 3: Ridley's Believe It or Not!

I don't even play Tales and I already don't want either of them in Smash.

Tales characters are usually standard JRPG characters right? Like swordsman and magic users? I don't think we need a 3rd party rep to include those types.

Hm, good point.

Sakurai invented a dual blade weapon for Pit.
Sakurai invented a plasma whip for Zero Suit Samus.
Sakurai invented... everything for Captain Falcon. And Fox. And R.O.B.

"Move set potential" is a completely empty justification. It doesn't mean anything. Every character has the potential for a unique and interesting move set. I just don't see someone as obscure as Lloyd Irving jumping out to Sakurai as a must have third party character. He's pretty bottom of the barrel, honestly.

I'll admit this is true. But does Pac-Man have close to the amount of personality that a Tales Protaginist does? What about world design? Hell, what about music? Enemy design? If anything would be "jumping out at Sakurai" it would be these things.

Speaking of moveset potential, anyone have a good one for Little Mac? I can only think of Uppercut as Up Special and maybe blocking as down special.

Did they sweep the world with Pac-Man fever?

I think not.

I think it would be neat if he had some sort of "heat up" mechanic that allowed Little Mac to grow faster and more powerful the longer he went on without a hit(sort of close to Punch Out) that scales with his Up-B uppercut.

Yes, Pac-Man does, but I'm not sure any of that matters as much as you're suggesting. Who could forget R.O.B.'s world design, music, and enemies?

burn this heathen

>.>

Well...Lucina doesn't care about you either!

See, the only Fire Emblem I ever played was Sacred Stones (which is considered being shit by most people, but idc), and I would actually enjoy Ephraim or even Eirika because they use unique weapons (a polearm and a rapier, which is an entirely different type of sword from regular long sword of Marth/Roy), but I know they have no chance in hell.

Heck, Leon would be awesome cause evil magic and necromancy and shit.

Pac-Man has the potential for a lot of personality, as evidenced in Pac-Man 2 for the SNES. It's a shit game, but you can't tell me that this has no personality:

Tales of characters are generic teen heroes that set out to have adventures and save the world, the most basic possible male Japanese story protagonists. That gif up there already has more personality than them. :P

Also, regarding music, there's more the immensely big Pac-Man franchise can offer than just the basic stage start jingle from the first game. Examples...

Just some random songs I pulled out here. Of course the same goes for enemies, but honestly, I don't see how enemy design really matters. If there's a stage based on Pac-Man, it's likely based on the classic pellet-filled labyrinth with the ghosts floating around in it.

By virtue of being a boxer, he has lots of things to draw from. And he should probably summon Doc Louis on a bike as a projectile.

Since R.O.B is technically an N.E.S, most N.E.S world designs, music, and enemies could count for R.O.B, but I see your point. I figured R.O.B was more for nostalgia purposes more than anything.

man if we got pacman from pacman 2 in smash that'd be fucking amazing

rather than controlling pacman, you control a cursor with which you direct him around the stage in hopes of preventing him from walking straight off a cliff. the majority of the time he does not follow commands.

That would be the best thing ever.

Pac-Man would be a nostalgic character, too. I don't see why some people have a problem with the fact that modern Pac-Man games aren't exactly setting the world on fire -- like Mega Man, he has his own historical role, and that role happens to be the video game icon of the '80s arcade era. He was huge. Mario vs. Donkey Kong vs. Pac-Man is an awesome match-up.

I've played Tales of The Abyss, and I'd say that Luke was very memorable.

I wanted to choke that guy. My god, I have never been ticked off so much by a main character before.

I'm going to admit that I didn't even know that there was a Pac-Man 2.

It looks like the worst thing ever.

Number of people who have played Pac-Man >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Number of people who have played even a single Tales game

Number of people who have played Pac-Man >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Number of people who have played Pac-Man that actually care about Smash Bros.

Seeing Male WFT confirmed, if Pac-Man's indeed in a Ms. Pac-Man alt is pretty much a shoe-in.

I hate to be that guy (especially in this specific case) but... Male WFT wasn't actually confirmed. We don't actually know what that picture was showing, even if it seems extremely obvious.

Pac-Man was probably a bigger hit than Smash Bros back in his peak, yeah?

Not sure what point you're trying to make lol.

That number of people that have played Pac-Man and care about Smash is definitely higher than the number of people who played Tales and care about Smash.

He could be an assist trophy.

Most likely an alt.

Didn't Sakurai say a couple months ago that having a real fighter character (as in fighters in their own games) was kind of redundant?
I think he was talking about Ryu and a possible appearance in Smash Bros. but I don't see how this does not apply to others like Little Mac as well.

Keep him as an assistant trophy... he would be a waste of roster just like some of the crazy ideas some members have thrown in the past.

Or a move, an item, some other new gimmick...

Punch-Out isn't a fighting game in any traditional sense. It's more of an action puzzler. It didn't even have a versus mode until the Wii version, nearly 25 years after the first game came out.

I think he meant fighting game specific. Punch Out isn't really a fighting game, more like pattern recognition.
