Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | November 2013 | Tearaway into a new world

Killzone: Mercenary updates:
First up is Update 3. In terms of functionality there will only be minimal changes but this is the patch that reduces the size of the other patches! After installing this patch it will free up around 800MB of space for those who have already installed Updates 1 and 2. Update 3 should be ready in the next few weeks.

Update 4 is due in January and is being designed to improve Matching and to help reduce join-game connectivity problems, as well as adding an auto team-rebalancing feature.

Following that is the big one – Update 5, which includes two new MP maps for FREE; and the release of offline Botzone for Mercenary and Guerrilla Warfare modes (price TBC).

This Ys sale will teach me not to buy any game at original listed price when I have no time to play them yet. Got Ys Seven a few weeks ago at $15, haven't even downloaded it yet. At least I can take advantage of this for Oath.

Also in the first few months of 2014 will be Update 6, in which we’re working towards continued refinements and adding support for playing Killzone Mercenary on Vita TV.
We hope you enjoy the additions to Mercenary. Happy gaming.

Two more multiplayer maps.
Reducing the patch size by 66% (sounds like it should be around 400mb).

NICE!

Edit: Beaten.

lol. did I miss anything from last week's Store Update?
(I didn't buy the Persona games)

hmm. exams can't end soon enough for me to get Tearaway

Damn those updates for Killzone: Merc sound awesome. I'm gonna pick up Tearaway today and wait till december to get that 64 GB card.

edit:

@chris: The DLC was worth it to me, I don't think its very expensive is it?

@nicoga: I never played with Gaf but I never have a problem finding games online.

I wouldn't call that port begging. It was an observation about Rockstar's strategy in a thread about the lastest port they made, IMO. Just because someone mentions another platform in a thread about a particular version of the game doesn't make it "port begging".

Nah, that's port begging. "Why not a Vita version?" "No Vita version, lol".

So I'm playing through gravity rush and was just wondering if the DLC is worth it?

And here we go again. I swear this thread is the physical manifestation of Groundhog Day. I don't want to be Bill Murray, dammit.

How far are you in the game?

I'm one of the people in here who is constantly saying "if you got it for free on PS+ and enjoy the game, pay $12 for the DLC before you get too far into it."

Each $4 DLC pack gives you a costume, 2 story missions, 2 challenges, and 7 or so trophies, I think. In addition to that, they raise the max levels of some abilities so you can go past 10, I believe. Very useful for platinuming the game.

The story missions are locked until you pass certain story missions, so installing them before you get that far and having them available makes the game world have more to do (like a real sandbox game).

So if you like what you've played so far and think you'd enjoy additional content, buy the things before going further. At least buy one of them to try out potentially (I think the maid DLC is the first to be accessible around story mission 7).

I bought all 3 before I even started and I didn't regret it.

Nah, that's port begging. "Why not a Vita version?" "No Vita version, lol".

I disagree.

It wasn't worded as "I want this on Vita and they're porting it to everything but.", at least not the way I read it... personally, I didn't get the impression that Takao was dying to have the game on Vita and was upset that it wasn't or was asking for it on Vita. It seemed to be an observation to me -- almost like saying "Can't wait for the 3DS version next." Yeah, there was some questioning of R*'s porting strategy in Takao's comment, but I didn't see a "please port it to Vita next! we want it on Vita!" in what Takao said. Begging is asking for something you want, essentially, and that part was missing from the post, IMO.

@chris: The DLC was worth it to me, I don't think its very expensive is it?

No they are 3.99 each I think, cheap and since I got the game with PS+ it's even cheaper really

Yes. The DLC missions are pretty good. YMMV on the costumes, though.

Great to hear :)

Sounds great I'll buy them right away, I'm in chapter 5 I think, just completed the first 'zone' or whatever. I really like the game so far, the gravity controls took a little getting used to but I got it down pretty good now.

I fully support NeoGAF's zero tolerance stance on port begging.

If you want to see what happens when port begging is left unchecked, check the comments on any console game (ie. not on PC) review on Ars Technica. Shit escalates FAST.
No shit! I post on Ars often as it's the only site I feel I can get away with reading gaming stuff at work. The Last of Us thread was a shit storm. People were so pissed they didn't say it was a PS3 exclusive in the review text even though it was right there in a side bar box. Then you have tons of people saying "exclusives r dumb" yet don't consider PC only games to count. It's so PC centric there it drives me nuts b

I should get back to playing some Killzone, new maps sounds great

i wondered what you were talking about?!?!

this is amazing news - dunno if there is a thread for not already but ill just post the text in here anyways...

Geez think there's enough DLC for Soul Sacrifice? It's free and it's still annoying me how long it took me to figure out how many of them total were free DLC and what was something else, then downloading and then installing all these 100KB files. I couldn't imagine paying for this. Maybe it's just because I've always avoided DLC like the plague and am not used to it.

Two free maps AND offline Botzone for Killzone yeeeesssss! Finally I can play Killzone multiplayer on the train!

Hopefully that update doesn't come out too far after January.

Tried holding down the power button for like a minute or so?

(when it's fully off)

I remember before it used to be power + right shoulder button but power button works too if you hold it for long enough

Leave it plugged in for a little while first maybe?

This probably won't help but worth a shot...good luck :( - leads you to the recovery menu, just restart it or rebuild database.

Already done all of that before sending it to Sony. But thanks!

Just finished Tearaway. The ending hit me right in the feels, so well done. What a lovely, lovely game.
Just listening to the music while the credits are rolling. This game has such charming music. Now I kind of regret not going with the jukebox preorder.

Hmmm that's odd, still I got the game for free and totally worth a purchase so far so I don't mind.

Didn't the game get a patch?
If it did, it probably pulled a Soul Sacrifice and added the stuff in as part of the patch.
If it didn't, then fine, it's locked on the cart.
For some reason though, I think there was a patch.

Edit: A quick search seems to also indicate that for the "US Release" it was on the cart. This implies that it was not on the cart for the JP release. If that's the case, there's no reason they're going to give you the $12 in DLC free just because they localized the game and thought "hey, why don't we put the DLC on the cart to save in bandwidth costs for selling things on PSN".

None of this is directed at you chris -- it's just general musings; it just so happened your post was the easiest one to reply to.

Pumped for the Killzone updates!

My Vita got the blinking blue light of death AGAIN. It seems like it happens at night when it is supposed to auto update stuff... Maybe my PSN password got messed up too? Really weird.

I remember listening to podcast beyond a few weeks ago and Greg and the other guys kept shitting on Killzone Mercenary because of its day 1 patch and that GG should have completed the game before shipping it. Meanwhile I'm just facepalming over and over again because the reason it required the day one patch wan't because they didn't finish the game like they kept insisting several times but because the multiplayer portion of the game itself couldn't fit on the Vita cart >:l

GAF, please help me, I'm going crazy.

My Vita is just one month old and I got this weird problems all of the sudden: While I was playing it TURNED OFF out of the blue. When I started it, it asked for date and time.

I continued playing, was low on battery and then my charger DOESN'T work!! I plugin in the power plug, the light goes on for 3 seconds, then flashes 2 times before going dark, and it never charges.

I shutted down my Vita before the battery was dead, but now I can't even turn it on again.

What the fuck is happening?

I tried to connect USB on my Mac and the same problem occurs.

Hopefully you don't have the same issue as Alej.

Double check it's plugged in the right way at the Vita end (the cable) and at the power brick end as sometimes the cable slots in the wrong way.

... try holding the power button for 30 seconds... otherwise power + right trigger...

good luck... -since it turned off while you were playing...I'm a bit worried it's the same issue in which case you'll need to call up Sony who will sort it out for you.

Strange both happen at the same time... what were you playing btw?

Was this advertised anywhere?

What happened to Alej's Vita? Where he bought it?

I bought mine in South Korea.

My Vita cannot die right now. I was starting to have a blast with it and I cannot afford to buy a new one.

I have one friend who also have one, I'll try to charge with his charger.... Hopefully is just a charger problem.

Fuck no. My life is ruined.

I have to say it never turned off while playing. But it did happen to ask me to rebuild databse (or restore system settings) many times since i bought it in February, like 6 or 7 times, and it was annoying. I dunno if it's linked though.

What seems to be important is: when connected to the ac adapter, Vita emitted a orange glow for one second via the playstation button, and this was my unit's sign of death (orange light of death).

Bought in France, in a street store (FNAC), in February 2013, BTW.

^hmm thanks for the extra information, hopefully someone with similar issues finds it helpful and you both get it sorted without much issue. Argh, hate hearing about vitas going down.

-do double check the cable ends are plugged in the right, it's happened to a lot of us at least once.

Otherwise charging while playing maybe causing the battery to overheat? Good luck mate, hope it's not too much hassle!

I double checked, everything is connected alright, with the PS logo facing up.

And that's exactly what I get: light for 2-3 seconds, then flashes 2 times.

FUUUUU- Is Sony aware of this? What's the reason?

It won't charge from regular USB ports if "USB power supply" isn't checked on settings, and it's off by default.

Vita's light should go orange when it's charging, so you can tell if it's working. Sounds like the battery ran out and your charger is faulty.

I think this means its not charging or Its probably the battery dead. Maybe leave it for charge for awhile?

edit: Oh and have you tried holding down the PS button, power button and volume up to see if the battery icon comes up?

I'm ciruous to what have you being playing when the system shutdown and did you got the "Battery level is too low." warning?

i shoulda been 50$ :(

ooo limited how much credit can be earned too?!?

limited to $10 (aka one redemption). Terms page is now up.

Thankfully it says BETWEEN Nov. 26th... so my Tearaway purchase 5 hours ago should count.. Now I just need to spend $25 more..

edit - also on the terms page "Third party application purchases are excluded." Assuming this means "no your heathen amazon PSN purchases won't work"

It doesn't seem like sales for PSOne titles are still a thing huh? Still need to get Vagrant Story, FF IX and BoF IV (maybe SOTN) off US PSN.

FF9 was on sale early this year on US PSN,just wait til Late Winter/Early Spring 2014 and they should go on sale again.

Dragon's Crown and P4A also discounted this week.

I wonder if Atlus is going to do something else for BF, like being extra nice and dropping P2IS below the usual 50%.
