Watch Kanye West repeatedly get his ass handed to him

Exactly.

Because Kanye has such a freaking mouth on him people aren't willing to dig through his shit talk to see the dude has some legitimate points and is indeed very thoughtful.

It's his big mouth that gets him into trouble with people like Charlemagne even though everyone is a contradiction.

I just don't get how people are backing Charlemagne when a lot of his hate is "WE WANT THE OLD KANYE BACK I DIDN'T LIKE THE LAST ALBUM/TRADITIONAL HIP HOP".

This dude is also known for railing on Drake and others who don't stick the the normal hip hop formula. Come on yo. Gimme a break.

Charlemagne is essentially telling Kanye he can only be a rapper and people only care about Kanye as a rapper. Whether that is true or not doesn't matter. Kanye wants to be in fashion and product. End of it.

His style wasn't so influential -.

808s and Heartbreaks is pretty much the blueprint for Drake's career. that has to count for some influence.

but he doesn't show up to the scene in some leather pants. he turns up on y'all and brings a kilt and then you fail to recognize him. you fail to recognize and apologize.

Michael Jordan was in Space Jam.

Space Jam.

Decent point. But I don't know that Drake wouldn't have happened if Kanye (as a rapper) hadn't come first. Drake would have happened eventually, I think. Maybe it wouldn't have BEEN Drake, though.

I didn't even think the kilt was crazy. But I live in Portland :)

I don't get why people think Kanye's a genius. He might as well be a regular guy on the street trying to be some sort of intellectual judging by almost everything he's ever said. Amazingly talented producer, not very articulate and not especially bright. This is coming from a Kanye fan. But keep churning out those cute ad hominem arguments.
Top 10 parody account out there lol

Saw the full breakfast club interview earlier, Charlamagne has always been the most up front and honest when it came to talking about Ye over the years.

man... i like to be a kanye fan. but he's not making it easy. the whole ego thing was great but he can't even have a conversation

The worst thing to happen to Kanye was believing he should become a rapper. If he'd stayed a top-level producer, selling his beats to the highest bidders, he wouldn't be a punchline right now.

haha yeah he totally should have stopped himself from being one of the most popular people in Hip-hop and america in general. And stopped himself from create those amazing albums

Let em have it. It's the holidays.

still i need to say it again. as a community that tends to show off a well shaped opinion of things, this is a prime example of the polar extreme of the other end.

this is honestly the worst consensus on the entirety of neogaf.

Yeah your mileage on this interview will vary based on what you see Kanye as.

If you see him as nothing as a rapper/producer of course your gonna be "ugh shut up and give me another good album (pre-Yeezus of course teehee)".

If you see him as more than that, the guy who did the Air Yeezys or has designed for luxury labels then you'll get where he is coming from a bit better.

He's mad because everyone is trying to keep him in the rapper box when he clearly doesn't wanna be JUST that.

I see him as a genius for how he innovates musically. I don't believe him to be fucking Einstein or anything. He seems mostly like a normal person when he's not falling under heavy scrutiny.

.

almost as delusional as yeezy.

i see him as this but the problem with these interviews is the words coming out of his mouth. he needs a translator to convert his fuckery into coherent thoughts. i get he's frustrated but i still don't know why.

he goes off in a tangent within seconds and all of a sudden kate upton is not marilyn monroe kim is you know what i'm saying?

Musically, yes. But not the fucking Beethoven of his generation.

Oh god, at 30:24 in the full interview he says, "Eve made Adam eat an apple, and then it became illegal to become naked." Out of nowhere. This dude isn't human. And I love how some of his fans will try to make sense of it all.

I loved Kanye as a producer and even as a rapper up until his last two albums(MBDTF was stellar but I still didn't like the themes), but I'm with Charlamagne on this one. People didn't become fans of Kanye to hear him rap about the struggles of being a millionaire and egotistical BS like that. Yes, many artists change over time and are encouraged to do so, but it's like Kanye has gone completely insane. I know it has almost nothing to do with his music, but I personally can't listen to artists who I disagree with/can't relate to.

The sad thing is that he probably thinks that people like Charlamagne are in the minority because pretty much everybody else kinda kisses his ass, so he probably won't take the criticisms seriously. He even says in the interview he's willing to learn everyday to see what he's doing wrong but he can't even look at Charlamagne in the face when he's talking to him.

Right, but the uproar is something that is unique to Kanye.

Which should say something about Kanye. Not really that people are hating just because someone is successful. Also I'm just amused by it all really. Hating is taking it to a level like I give a shit beyond ribbing the dude.

No, he's definitely a Beethoven of our generation. His career in the mainstream as a rapper has lasted ten years now and his buzz has only increased since. He's shaped his respective genre in many ways.

Kanye is a crusader that only gives a crap about shit that impacts him. It's all selfishness on his end.

You're probably right and I'm probably being too lenient on him. It's just weird to see a guy so completely disconnected from what he's saying. I give him the benefit of the doubt simply because I don't want to think he's lost his marbles.

Yeah, and it's not even unique to Kanye. All celebrities are called out on their fuckery but Kanye is one of the biggest and says the most outrageous shit.

Uhhhhhhhhhhhh

Again, that's kind of my point. It's obvious why he went the route he did. It's not like there weren't rewards, either. It's just that hindsight is a motherfucker, and looking back - choosing to rap over his own beats instead of just (as he'd done for years before that) selling them at a nice price to whoever wanted them (Jay, Talib, Twista, etc.) is absolutely a factor in this slow-motion slide towards total insanity that's caused the fall-off he's currently enjoying.

Maybe he'll bounce back. Lord knows he'll be motivated enough.

But the fact Charlemagne says "people only care about you as a rapper" goes to my point: Kanye obviously believes that on some level, otherwise he would have been satisfied with being one of the best (if not THE best) producers in all of hip-hop at the time. But he wasn't. And now he's not satisfied with being "just" a rapper, and the further he tries to branch out, the more he gets frustrated and annoyed by his inability to conquer the way he conquered production, and then conquered the charts with his rapping. Now he's not happy with just being a rapper, and that's not even the best thing he can do. The thing he is ABSOLUTELY the best at is producing, and that's the thing that's currently not even in the top 5 things he gives a fuck about.

Well...his earlier albums semmed full of passion gave me a lot of respect for him, but all of that just disappeared with that video :/

It's kind of interesting to see him exaggerating the greatness of someone besides himself. Sweet, even... He seems to genuinely see Kim Kardashian as this savvy businesswoman who's leveraged her talents to succeed in new frontiers of entertainment, and who may even go down in history as a one of the more notable sex icon-entertainers of the 21st century. He doesn't see her as shallow or uninteresting, and doesn't see her success as somehow being less than noble. He fully believes in his soon to be wife, regardless of what everyone else thinks.

That's love, guys. The entire world will laugh and disagree when he says things like, "She's the new Marilyn Monroe," but do you think that's going to influence his opinion in the slightest? In his eyes, she's greatness. He sees nothing but the best in her.

After finishing this interview, leaving the studio, and getting into his car, he probably began to cry softly and then reach for his phone to call Kim, as has become his norm. See, he doesn't need to hide his feelings around her. She's used to how sensitive he is, and she deeply appreciates this side to him. Where other people see thin skin, she sees a sensitive artist who manages to thrive in a unique, and rough, environment. She completely has his back.

I think I'll watch the Bound 2 video one more time, and then it's back to studying for finals.

No rapper or producer is even in the same stratosphere musically as Beethoven.

Hi Kanye.

It's kind of interesting to see him exaggerating the greatness of someone besides himself. Sweet, even... That read like some bizarre fanfic.

EDIT: Beaten.

Kanye the music artist is great, but his IRL persona is just sad, I guess losing his mom really hit him hard. Now I wonder how delusional Kim might be now that she married him.

outside of music (which is still nice) he's charles hamilton status.

only he's such a big figure that he won't be ignored like the sonic nutjob.

Charlamagne is great. I don't even know / care about half the shit he talks about on VladTV but he's usually funny and at the very least honest.

Video list.

It's cool to not like him. Shit, it's cool if you don't like Beethoven. Just don't discredit the significance they've had on their genres.

I don't care about his significance on his genre. You're tonedeaf if you think Kanye's musical talents are equivalent to Beethoven's.

Which should say something about Kanye. Not really that people are hating just because someone is successful. Also I'm just amused by it all really. Hating is taking it to a level like I give a shit beyond ribbing the dude.

Why does him being passionate and confident about things he likes draw so much ire?

So, this is more about how much YOU dislike Kanye, rather than how he, like Beethoven, is a musical icon. This isn't about judging Kanye on how good he is at composing symphonies. That would be like judging Beethoven's merit on how well he can rap, wouldn't ya agree?
