Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 3: Ridley's Believe It or Not!

Yeah it could be that. Hard to say now that Bowser's had an overhaul of his moveset though.

Well we haven't seen any Shields yet, have we?

Would be interesting if they changed the ambiguous generic shields and gave everyone unique animations, although that'd certainly change things up quite a bit and I can't imagine how they'd make it clear that, say, someone like Pikachu is shielding itself (unless it creates an electric shield or something) and where the shield is focused at.

The first trailer shown.

That Pic of the Day depresses me. Even though its been seen on other pics Sonic's been it, it STILL bothers me that he has that funky elliptical and often times inaccurate Homing Attack. Project M has spoiled me on theirs sooo much lol. Oh well. Still gonna play the shit outta Sonic on Smash U.

It'd be weird and broken, but kinda neat if Bowser's spikes can inflict damage on overhead attacks while he's ducking. Dude was a joke in Melee and still didn't compare that favorably in Brawl, so I'm glad his moveset's getting shaken up.

Chesnaught Bowser used spiky shield! Bowser protected himself!

I want ROB to be really genki. The more the better since it will make me forget how bloody emo they tried to make an accessory for a videogaming system be in Brawl.

I think, the picture shows Bowser crouching and having a natural armor on his back. There are too much indifferences to his Up-Smash from Brawl. First Browsers looks forward in the screenshots and not up as he did in Brawl and like any good animator would model him. Second Bowser doesn't mainly attack with his shell in his Up-Smash. He actually tries to hit his opponent with the top thorn of his shell, which premature blinks to indicate danger. In the picture Sonic hits the middle part of his shell, which hasn't a thorn on top.

For references a picture of the attack:

It is actual a great idea for Bowser to give him this protection against attacks from above. It forces his opponent to attack him mainly upfront and ground based, where Bowser has much more options and suits him more as air-battles.

I think it is Bowser's Up-smash on the very start of it.

Here are two Brawlbox pictures showing Bowser's Crouch and Up-Smash on the first frame. Ignore my Melee Bowser model please.

It's entirely possible that they revamped his animation for the attack / crouch, but him looking up in that SSB4 picture is very close to the up-smash compared to his crouch.

Re-hosted btw.

They've changed Bowser so much that it could just be a slightly different up smash animation. But shell protection would be appreciated, Bowser needs all the help he can get.

As cool as that would be, I can't see it being very likely. It'd be punishing you for not using a projectile character if you had to face Bowser on conditions he prefers.

Given all the animation tweaks that we've slowly been seeing (and with Bowser having a radically new model to begin with), I'd guess that it's his U-Smash.

Other than link's shield, that's unprecedented right? I mean, i guess crouching vs downward aerial attacks is just as limited as link's shield, if not more. How many people are going to be doing downward air attacks on land, other than link's downstab?

Shell protection is something I've always wanted for Bowser... I really think he's a character who needs more defense / approach options.

Many characters had nice downward aerials iirc: Sonic, Sheik, Rob, Jigglypuff, Kirby, Yoshi... Not sure if an armor would block them all though.

Link's down aerial on ground is a pretty risky and extremely punishable option, though...

But many characters have great down-air attacks to ground... for Falco, Lucario, Fox, Meta Knight and Yoshi it's some of their best options. I know there's probably more but that's what comes to mind.

Oh, and Ganondorf. Without his down-air, he's nothing to me. :P
