I'll be honest, as someone who legitimately feels that Game Freak still makes good Pokemon designs, and in fact I really don't dislike any of their creations beyond a tongue-in-cheek sense, I just feel that you get too defensive about this stuff and it makes me, and people like me who respect the new designs without simultaneously bashing the old designs, look bad.
I really, really don't wish for a "Gen War" to break out in the Smash Brothers thread, the only war we should be having in here is Melee vs. Brawl.

I apologize. Didn't really even want to bring it up. I just remember that one poster (starts with an S) using it back then. It was a really... odd... series of posts. Thought it was fun to rib on it.

Peach already sort of uses the sports games in her moveset.
I honestly think Waluigi over someone more specific to the mainline or RPG Mario games would be way overkill for someone who was created for the sole purpose of being Wario's partner in spin-off mario games. I don't hate him and he'd probably be done well in Smash, but I do think just going off the principal of it he'd be an incredibly boring addition.

With Luigi having been added to the Smash series while offering no importance to the Super Mario series at the time, I feel that Waluigi is pretty much in the same position, and could definitely be added in a future Smash title (not too confident about him making a debut in this one, however).
I've also never heard anyone say that Waluigi would be boring, ha. His proportions alone are enough to make for an interesting moveset if you ask me.
But who knows. He could end up being a clone for all we know....Waluigi is in the same position now as Luigi was in 1999?

Well besides what everyone thinks of him from the sports/party games.
He knows Kickboxing/Muay Thai, one of those. The guy has an explosive nature for the love of bombs. Then if you wanted to add his ability from the Striker games, Wall-Luigi! (Where he makes purple vines appear.) Just adding all that, well you can get pretty creative.
Then of course, you can add sports related things for him. And he's also really good at Tennis, so could be one reason why he had a racket in the assist trophy.
Or he could just be a goofy, clumsy villain. He may actually mean to do harm, but is so incompetent that he doesn't do a very good job at being "evil". That alone makes him endearing to me. I have no problems with him not getting in (let's be realistic, we know it's not likely to happen), but I'd be down with it if it happens.
The Tennis racket is there because his debut was in Mario Tennis.
Anyway, Waluigi would be pretty easy to make a moveset for, considering all of the sports and party games he's been in. They could probably throw in a Mario kart reference or two if they really wanted.

All that happened to Luigi was he was passed on being in SM64. He was still the 2nd main playable character in every other mainline Mario game, not to mention how he was just iconic as gaming's 'player 2' in general.
By comparison Waluigi lives and dies by each new mario spinoff game, if people questioning if he was getting phased out when he was skipped out in MK7, though very likely only due to that game being rushed to save the 3DS.
I laugh at the very idea of a playable Waluigi.

Last I checked, Sakurai is the director of Smash, not you. It doesn't matter what anyone in the world thinks a character's move set may be, Sakurai could do something different.

Waluigi is the single most awful character Nintendo has created. Everything about him, from his voice, mannerisms, and design, seems specifically tailored to evoke feelings of utter disgust and hatred. There is literally nothing worse in the Mario universe than Waluigi.
This is exactly why he NEEDS to be playable in Smash. In his utter terribleness, there is something pure, something so purely awful it brings him back to being incredible. He's the Tommy Wiseau of the Mario universe; in other words, he is perfect.
