Lupin III Gets Live-Action Film in Summer 2014

This won't be good. I'm sorry, but I just can't that take crew line-up seriouslynot sure about the cast, but Asano's great in most anything.
Reminder: Lupin's already had a live-action film, done all the way back in the '70s. The thing with that production is that it's unashamed of its Japanese modern-day setting, even changing the characters a bit to fit in with the premise (Jigen wants to restart the Lupin crime syndicate, for example). This new movie's basically another useless origin story (already had one in First Contact!), and now they're inventing original characters who won't benefit from half-decent writing. It's about damn time we got a European production for a live-action Lupin movie, not this cheapo excuse to extort the fandom.
And to think the director behind Piranha 3d wants to do Space Adventure Cobra!

How many good Live-Action adaptions from mangas are there actually? Can't be that many.
I love Shun Oguri and Go Ayano so I guess I'll watch it. But it won't be good. :lol
Beck, Solanin, Space Brothers, Liar Game, Nodame Cantabile, Moteki...
They were alright, especially Nodame Cantabile and Moteki. Both were better than the source material imo

Kitamura might not be a bad choice for director, actually: Versus looks utterly insane, perhaps the evidence for his being chosen. But there are better directors living today. Some of them are directing comic-book movies (Wright, please!)...

Now: Is this going to be based on the darker, rougher manga, or is this going to be more akin to the really goofy second series?
How about international production? Lupin wasn't Japanese far as I can recall. Have some top talent directing this with good enough production values and make it grandiose adventure film.

Lupin is half Japanese, and Fujiko is full Japanese. Jigen is sometimes portrayed as Japanese-American and Goemon of course is full Japanese.

Tintin take would be really interesting and would probably track more international audience then live action film. Then again, you are right, Cagliostro won't be topped, so why even bother? :b
Hopefully their budget is in same league as Kenshin's. Didn't care for it but at least their production values were decent. So many live-action adaptations suffer from terrible production values.

The funny thing about that is that Fujiko, despite having a Japanese name, looks more American than Lupin does.

No. Just no. I can see Beck, Solanin and Nodame Cantabile, but both, the Liar Game Movies and the Drama are absolutely terrible and I even watched/endured them all.
Besides every scene being in some neon-color, the acting of most of the actors was so horrible bad and there were scenes solely to show how "cute" and "though" the male idol is. I mean the adapted the games pretty well, but besides that it really was hard to watch. Especially the camerawork. I mean you had like all 2 minutes this "3 shot scene", where they shoot the same "EHHHHHH" from 3 different camera-angels while zooming into the character.
When talking about anime to live-action films, you are not supposed to compare them to regular productions. Only to other anime to live-action films so they won't all suck by comparison. Anime to live-action movies retain too much from their source material and that's big of a problem. Zany stuff, you usually see in manga and anime, just doesn't work with real life adaptations. American comic book movies are far from perfect, but they have dropped some of the cornier stuff from the source material. Or if they keep them, they keep them in jest.No. Just no. Here are images of the five main cast members in costume. There was also a website update with some new wallpapers. The film has been confirmed to hit cinemas on August the 30th.
Social media sites for the film have launched, ran by a pretend Inspector Zenigata [Facebook / Twitter.] The cast will be attending a festival in Osaka on the 12th of April. It's rumoured footage of the film will be shown there, but nothing is 100% confirmed yet.
A new animated feature film directed by Takeshi Koike will also release around this same time. It will be a direct sequel to the 2012 series, A Woman Named Fujiko Mine. Koike will be directing this time around and the story will revolve around Lupin's partner, Daisuke Jigen. The film is named The Tomb of Daisuke Jigen / Daisuke Jigen's Gravestone.

Nice. Jigen was always my favorite. Smooth operator that one. Then again, the entire cast is pretty likeable, except Fujiko.
Actors in costume looks pretty good.
There is a very well done Italian short-movie called BASETTE("sideburns" in italian), which is basically Lupin III with an italian spinn at the setting/language, that i'd love to see developed as a movie or a tv series.
I suggest everyone to check it out, even if you don't know italian it's still pretty understandable.

But I'm OK with this. I was sceptical at first, but it's looking to be close to the source material. Cheesy as all heck, but that suits me just fine.
The 1974 Lupin film wasn't fantastic, but it helped boost popularity for the series in Japan. It's partially thanks to it that we got forty more years worth of Lupin animation. Lupin certainly isn't unpopular in Japan right now, but I am hoping this film, the Daisuke Jigen animated feature and the DVD release of Lupin VS Conan 2013 will really help boost interest levels.
We went a decade so many rinse and repeat TV specials. Though it not to everybody's taste, things changed with the 2012 TV spin-off series and I'm happy with the way things are looking.

If I really wanted to live up to my old tag, I'd guess that it's going to look like low rent fucking garbage like mostly every other live action anime film that Japan shits out.
