When did I say we can't? I was merely arguing against the idea that Wolf is more deserving than Falco. Which I argue he isn't.

I agree with this. It bugs me whenever I see a comment about cutting Falco.

To be fair, Wolf and Fox are visually distinct in that they move and pose very differently in practically every one of their moves. If they actually moved similarly, there would definitely be some difficulty in telling them apart, especially on a smaller screen like the 3DS'.
If Rosalina was added in, she would absolutely have to move differently than Peach to be visually distinct. And I don't think that would be terribly difficult, as Rosalina could easily float around as if she were in space and such - there is definitely a lot of potential for differentiating the two, if Sakurai decides to go that direction.
Unless a character is literally a recolor of a character already in Smash Bros. (such as Dark Pit) I really don't think that looking similar to an existing character is a very good argument against a character's inclusion. It's not hard to make two characters visually distinct even if they share a silhouette.

Sakurai could go the Ultimax Ultra Suplex Hold route and add everyone's shadow.
I just get the feeling he'd put a Lucina model on a different slot before making it a Marth alt. Though some people dislike clones I think that's a much better way than making them all alts, plus they can have move variations.

It's not just that wolf is very similar to fox in fighting style and looks. It's also just that he's not really all the interesting of a character. I'm a huge fan of the series and he definitely isn't the 3rd character i would have chosen. I'm not even sure it needs 3 characters to represent it.

Haha i'm still not quite full into the hype train yet. Probably still a year till launch so i'm trying to keep it under control for now.
I don't mind toon link but man i wish they would add majora/skull kid. He has been so underused by nintendo and i think he is one of the most interesting characters they have ever made, especially considering how few villains they have.
Also just on the zelda franchise man i wish they would redo ganondorf. He deserves his own moveset, why he was ever a clone of falcon is baffling to me.

Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 has 50 characters. Smash Bros. is generally designed with much less concern for balance than a traditional fighter. Smash 4 could EASILY have 50+ characters.
Sakurai's comments on the roster have all been vague at best. To suggest that characters NEED to be cut is incredibly silly, especially considering Sakurai said outright that, at that stage in development, he hadn't cut anyone at all.
So you want a reboot of the series canon? Everyone already is aware they are trophies, that's like the entire point of Subspace Emissionary

I didn't say characters NEED to be cut. I'm saying that if you want to see new characters in there that's most likely what will have to happen. I would love to see him keep everyone and add a bunch more but i can't see it happening.
Personally i want to see a huge amount of characters/maps/music because that's what i love about the game. The wii U is a HUGE step up over the GC/wii so it should be possible.

So the HYPE consumes me not because I like the thing that is coming out, I am hype because I am interested in how people will handle it ]

As much as I like the idea of keeping Melee!Falco, it would be neat if Falco's moveset got reworked based on the various weaponry from Assault. He could use rocket launchers, mines, grenades, and that sort of thing - he could even adopt some of Snake's moves on the off chance Snake gets cut. And then Wolf can stay as a Luigi-style adaptation of Fox.

I doubt were getting a character today, since VGX is around the corner....I would not mind seeing more items/character alts though. When was the last time we saw DK and kirby in a pic? (Turkey has left my memory fuzzy...happy thanks giving btw smashGAF)

I hope Smash 4 continues where Brawl left off with the diversification of the "clone" characters.

As if Meta Knight has any chance whatsoever of being cut. Sakurai likes the character so much that he deliberately programmed him to be the best character in Brawl, he's the only character in the game to have his own unique victory theme, and the one new Kirby stage is based on him. MK is Sakurai's little Kirby baby, and he will stay even if everyone else has to be cut to keep him.
I wouldn't be surprised if Sakurai didn't nerf him much, either. Since Sakurai's still apparently 100% in charge of character balance, there's even a chance that he doesn't believe that MK was broken in Brawl... sorry, I'm not optimistic about Smash 4 character balance.
