Show us your gaming setup: 2013 Edition

So I cleaned up a lot of the clutter and have added the Xbox One.

Have made a gap for my PS4 which isn't coming for a month or so. But I've done a LOT of clean up in the cupboards in terms of boxes and stuff so I can be more clutter free in here.

First attempt at a panorama shot on my 5S

Wii U collection just started so it's pretty sad (only Mario 3D World at the moment, and Zelda digitally). PS3 is usually beside the router on the bottom left but I lent it to a friend when I got my PS4.

Not pictured: Vita and 3DS (though the games for those handhelds are beside/behind the PS4 and Wii U)

It's been a while since I've been on here. Just wondering what people's thoughts are regarding the XBox One and/or PS4. Are you finding them to be louder/quieter? Do you need to setup the console(s) in open spaces or is a standard TV stand or AV rack okay? I'll be getting both when they are more readily available so I'm looking at options of where to put them. I'd prefer to put them in the built-in closed cabinets but I'm not sure how that will affect their reliability/longevity. My new house is pretty open and with the way it is right now, I don't think I want to have them sitting out upfront...just doesn't seem right in the new house.

Can only speak for the xbone (Eurogaffer here) but i'll tell you what i know.
The console was thrown straight into the cabinet where the xbox 360 and PS3 were (and will be again, need to arrange stuff for everything to fit there).
It's a closed cabinet of a bilateral bookshelf (?) with doors on the front and back that i generally keep closed.

here, under the tv

(old pic but general layout hasn't changed)

I know it sounds like the recipe for a disaster, but Xbox360 and Ps3 survived locked there (tbh i sometimes hear ps3's fan go berserk and i would stop playing or open the doors to let it breathe) and the xbone seems to run cooler than the 360. I generally play in short sessions anyway.

It's very quiet (not thad i'd hear it from inside the cabinet anyway :P).
Kinect 2 was easier to place because of it's shape, more stable.

Very simple setup to the side of my PC setup.

SCPH-5552 PlayStation with an MM3 modchip and an official RGB SCART cable (SCPH-1052) plugged into a Sony KX-14CP1.

It looks stunning. Easily my favourite CRT of those that I have owned which is most kinds other than larger PVMs.

Cool as heck.

Don't think you have enough games mate.

We're getting close to the end of the year. Here is Tabris' official award for Best Gaming Setup from 2013! The evaluating requirements for winning this award are minimal wires visible, multiple consoles, sleek or comfy interior design / decorating, large collections, latest devices (TVs, receivers, speakers, remote controls), and something unique.

Honourable Mention

This is what Ron Swanson's video game setup would look like!

Runner-Ups

This guy takes his mobile serious with multiple PS Vitas and 3DS's. Very clean apartment. Also in there is a great cabinet and retro console room.

This guy's man cave setup has so many fun things in one man cave it's impossible to count. A crazy insane 3-monitor PC setup. A bar next to his gaming setup with the biggest sectional I've seen!

This cozy attic setup has multiple televisions to handle all of the console and tv watching needed, classic furniture like david eames lounge chair, and no visible wires anywhere.

Winner

For another year, he wins again! This swanky London setup has fantastic modern design choices while still looking extremely comfortable, great natural lightning, and the latest devices. You guys better bring it in 2014, we need someone to beat Chitta as he's been king since he moved into his new pad!

Wow thanks! That's quite a compliment in a thread full of gorgeous and functional setups, including your own! I wonder if my new TV qualifies me to enter next year again :-D

I still think Ollie Moss has the best gaming setup on GAF. His space is legit. Class but not that medicinal un-livable space and just enough of the designer stuff but not over the top. Perfect place to game!

That's some hotness.

First of all, I think the word you meant to use was sterile or "hospital like", not medicinal (which means "having healing properties"). If you're going to insult people, use the correct word.

EDIT - Just the first comment, I missed the latest post.

It's too bad there isn't a vote-based "Gaming Setup of the Year". I'd imagine the sheer number of setups posted would make it difficult to include everyone, but perhaps it could be every setup that was quoted at least twice would be included. They'd still have to be selected manually since lots of responses don't actually involve a quote, but at least there would be no claims of bias (or popular setups being missed)

Hey if you want that, you should go through the entire thread and find all posts quoted multiple times and then post a vote. This was Tabris' list, not NeoGAF's list :)

I can almost guarantee that the winner will be the same though. Or potentially the Honourable Mention for those that don't take it as serious.

Meh, that would just be a contest of who has more money.

Totally disagree. You can make an amazing setup by just cleaning up your wires, buying clean sleek furniture from stores like Ikea or knock offs of those designer furniture, picking the right colours, and taking good pictures (that's also a big key).

If I knew more about scripting languages I feel like it'd be possible to make some kind of webcrawler that would assume every post that contains an image that is quoted multiple times (probably more than two quotes, now that I'm realizing there are 2k+ posts so far, many of which are likely setups that have been quoted more than twice) is notable enough to be included, perhaps in some kind of off-site voting setup. Or it could just be in a list in a post on GAF if there were few enough entries.

Meh, that would just be a contest of who has more money.

I don't know if I really agree with that, but maybe there could be different categories. Like, one for best overall setup (which would probably be rather expensive) but also "coziest" "geekiest" or "on a budget" etc?

I'm just thinking in post-form right now. Please excuse anything that doesn't make sense!

Jeez, not insulting folks. I meant medicinal in an antiseptic way. Don't freak out. Everybody has different likes and dislikes. The designed, minimal, modern look is not for everybody's gameroom (even if we can appreciate it)

Here is where 99% of my gaming is done for now. Waiting on a 70” TV and a PS4 for downstairs, that will be for next year’s thread. For now, we have PS3, PC, iOS (iPad 3 and pics taken with iPhone 5S), and 3DS XL represented. Just got this desk yesterday from a family friend who was moving. My wife loves the look of it.

Next on the agenda for the desk:

ASUS 144hZ Monitor
USB Dac/Amp

Thank you for mentioning my set-up, I'm honored! I've also added a PS4 and Wii U but nothing much has changed :-)

Stunning indeed.

So are L shaped HDMI cables a thing? It sticks out visibly on the PS4 when it's vertical.
I have seen HDMI cables like that, yes. But I don't know if the joint goes the right way to avoid seeing it when vertical....

Tell your Fanatec wheel not to jump, Eso! It's not worth it!

Yeah, such a sad story.
He realized he had no purpose in life anymore and climbed up there and wanted to end it.
I told him Thomas might still help, but he didn't believe it (neither did i) so i had to promise i will build a racing PC rig sometimes in the future and he'll be back in action.
