This is a really good point. It's that 4chan post that has people assuming Mii anyway, correct? I think Nirolak was on point in the other thread when he noted that Bayonetta 2 and X are suited for Spike's audience; we shouldn't even be assuming Smash at all.
As for Smash's content. I can't think of a point where Sakurai has skimped out, right down to Extra Mode in the original Kirby. And more recently, look at the amount of unlockable stuff in Uprising. If there is a reduced number of new characters as Sakurai's talking about, I suspect that he'll counteract this with new modes, mechanics, and other content. Sakurai doesn't seem to be a fan of straight sequels; every one seems to take some length to distinguish itself from its predecessors.

I would be okay with those only six characters, if they were only 6 newcomers for starting roster. I would be fine with that since I want more veterans to be starting characters so we could be surprised by unlocking newcomer characters.
Otherwise, I'm not sure how I would feel about that.
Then I hope Nintendo isn't in a panic mode...
I don't think any of Mii, Little Mac or Pacman really fit with a VGX reveal, in fact, not many characters left that I can plausibly see in seem to fit with that type of audience. Most third party characters would work here, but poor Pacman, while a good character to have, really isn't "cool" enough for that type of show.
Unless, of course, it is a big, impressive trailer and a reveal for one of those characters is just a small part of it. Then you could get away with it. But if the aim is to just reveal one character, I don't see it being impressive enough.
I agree, I don't think any single character could do that. If Smash was at VGX it would be a full trailer similar to the debut showing the newly revealed vets and stages in action, with a newcomer or two added. Reggie coming by to show a Mii trailer and then leave would be snore-inducing to the crowd.

Exactly, that's why I'm hoping for Snake this VGX but I doubt it anyway.

The reaction show on Hayter would probably be priceless.
Also at this point I have given up hope that snake is in as much as I want him to stay.
I just hope they give his moveset to an advanced wars character or something. It's a really good move set.
My thought is that those six are the only ones that will be revealed before release - the only "new starters." Assuming we have about 10 newcomers for a full roster around 45, that'd make the four non-3rd Parties reasonable starters.
Of course we have no idea how Sakurai will be setting up the starter/unlockable system this time around, or if they'll even be one, so it's pretty much pure speculation but it makes sense to me.

I'd maybe seriously skip the Xbox one and PS4 if that ever happened. It's the only game keeping me from getting either one at the moment.
I'm aware it's for PS3 and 360 also but I'm done with getting new games for them pretty much.

I'm still baffled as to why is Nintendo in VGX.
About a little more than a year I'm guessing. Which is the same as Brawl which I'm sure was a smaller team and a more ambitious project. Not counting the delays, which can't afford to happen in this case, we'll be looking at spring to winter 2014.
If Mario Kart 8 fails to move units, you can bet Smash will fail to do it as well. There's not even a remotely possible scenario where Smash does better than MK8.
Just rehire two Miis with that shirt colour.

You are more likely to be right about this, but it's possible that people are waiting for price drop and waiting of them to release more games other than Mario Kart and Smash Bros. It's pretty obvious that it mightn't do well as Wii did.

You can always try your luck with mercenaries ..... or ask for friends to change color....

I'm sure there will be more system sellers down the road but MK8 is their strongest bet to try to expand the console's userbase exponentially.
Actually, I'm confident both MK8 and SSB4U will be the best-selling games this gen unless a miracle happens.
It has to be my Mii. Any other Mii being the King, Prince and Princess would just look off to me.

It has to be a reverse SSBB scenario. I can imagine it now.
Spike VGX shows a new trailer of Metal Gear Solid 5. It has all the hype you expect it to have. The title screen flashes. After the trailer is over, Snake gets a call from Miller who is unable to determine Snake's location, he claims he's gotten lost in the game's massive overworld. Cue footage of a new location in the MGS5, but it's not really an MGS5 location. Mario bursts onto the stage and it's revealed to be Smash Bros. Cue new Smash Bros trailer, Reggie then comes on stage to present a new game.

no, I was a big fan of wii fit trainer when she was revealed, so was I when they revealed the villager even if I hate the animal crossing series with a passion. Having mii's is just lame, and takes away the spotlight from original characters cause you know people would much better play as their own creation more than characters, it happened way to much with kart and it's gonna happen again if this shit is real.
And right as mario goes in to attack snakes uses his up A to ko mario and says not even close.
This is mostly my problem with it.
Mii for smash is essentially "Myself, Reggie, Miyamoto, Iwata, Kaz, Babara Streisand, Gabe Newell, Snooki, Gary Busey, Mao Zedong, Hitler and ant-man for Smash."
And unless the Mii plays terribly that's what you're going to see 2/3rds of the time.

Miis are as iconic a part of Nintendo's history as anything they've created since Mario and Zelda. Denying a place for them in Smash Bros. is just silly.

yes, they would be too popular. the character creation mode in the wwe games have proven that no one fucking plays with the actual wrestlers, they would rather make Gabe newell, Bush, Obama, spider-man created characters which are all that's used in online matches. I've seen some pretty impressive mii's of popular public figures and random things on the web, this is just screaming for shit like this to happen.
