Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 3: Ridley's Believe It or Not!

wouldn't it be odd to release such an NA-centric trailer like that for mii

i mean of course they could release more than one trailer for different regions and stuff like that, although there's no precedent but...
i'd imagine the trailer director has no idea about reggie or any of the in-jokes surrounding him and wouldn't really feel particularly moved to create a trailer like that

i mean it's pretty safe to file it into the "fake" category but even aside from that it would just be strange

Although I don't really care if Miis are actually in or not. I don't think this point matters. People in other countries would just see the Mii and be like "Oh cool/Oh shit, Mii is in!"

lol Miis weren't the most common characters in Mariio Kart. That's straight-up bullshit. And this is a fighting game where every character has different moves, why would someone ONLY use Miis? Makes no sense to me.

Wasn't there a rumor saying that Miis would be the 'custom stages' of characters?

You can customize their looks with costume parts that you unlock similar to stickers. You might even be able to customize their moves.

Since they could potentially be overpowered because of customization, you can disable miis in matches just like you can disable custom stages. Miis are also what you transfer between Wii U and 3DS.

I don't recall any rumor of that sort. The only rumor I trust is the one that says Little Mac, Pac-Man, and Miis are in the game.

But I do think you could be right about Miis being the thing you can transfer them between games.

it's less that it's featured in the trailer, as it's been featured in stuff viewed internationally like e3 before, and more that it's the crux of the joke of the trailer. other audiences would be a bit lost and it's not the sort of humor the smash bros team seems to be keen on

but once again this is just nitpicking what is already safe to dismiss as false, but to an extent it also applies to other stuff lacking international outlook like the joke-worthy "LOLREGGIEINSMASH" ordeal
nothing anybody here is guilty of, really

That rumor is 100% BS. I don't know what's funnier, Spring 2014 or the idea that Sakurai would create a trailer centered on Reggie's Mii.

throwaway account here! i heard some pretty big smash bros news through the grapevine..
-the game’s single player component is an adventure mode very similar to the one found in super smash bros melee
-you can create custom mii characters with different costumes, moves and taunts, and these miis can be saved to individual slots. you can trade miis between platforms and with friends, and you can upload, download and rate miis online. most of the mii parts, like new costumes and attacks, are unlockable.
-stage builder has been greatly expanded upon and has a similar online feature set to the miis
-nintendo will be producing packs of smash bros ar trading cards with original artwork, classic art, character bios, stage descriptions, item descriptions and so on. these cards can be scanned to unlock new mii parts, stage builder parts, music, trophies and other goodies.
-august 2014 is the target release date on both platforms
from what i hear, a little bit of the above is going to be shown off next month in a nintendo direct. so i suppose that’s the best proof i can give you all for now. ignore this post in the meantime if you like, but check back in a month to see how i did. ;)

As always, take w/ a grain of salt

i believe there's an option to disable miis. they're more a fun distraction than anything else. something for the casual crowd.

I for one, welcome the notion of playable Miis. Then my goal of having furious Samuel L Jackson in every game can move ever closer to reality.

Potential future character I'm most hyped about though would be
Pac-Man.

Well, it seems a lot has happened in the last 10 hours.

1) I don't believe the rumor, although I can see Mii being in, I don't buy the presentation. It's too convenient that it was after the Cranky leak.

2) Find Mii stage kind of lends credence to the rumor, but what time did the rumor emerge? Was it after the new pic of the day or before? This is kind of important.

What if the only new characters were those six

Don't play games with my heart.

To be perfectly honest the only thing I wouldn't like at all with a Mii reveal is if they decide to do this on VGX. If this and a Cranky reveal for Tropical Freeze is supposedly all they can come with to the show floor I'd honestly prefer they just don't show up at all. It feels like an absolutely massive lapse of judgement in terms of who actually watches this stuff and would probably just fuel the insular stigma the company has in terms of their target audience.

Cranky kong for smash!

Well Nintendo hasn't ever went to VGX before. There has to be a reason beyond look at Mii Smash and I'm Cranky.

Reggie is going to reveal Mii in Smash resulting in Geoff coming on stage and complaining about what a shitty reveal that was, resulting in Reggie and Geoff finally having their long awaited smackdown. Deadmau5 will be in the background playing Zelda remixes while this happens.

Now you know why they extended the running time.

Wasn't the story the complete opposite, there will be no costume parts in Smash.

Reggie will win. And it would become the only VGA worth watching.

Don't believe anything unless it comes directly from Nintendo.
Yup. Listen to this guy. So many false hopes people have.

I, for one, personally hope that Miis aren't in Smash 4 as playable characters. But Assist Trophies or background characters or something, sure.

I'm still baffled at why Nintendo is attending at VGX. There's no audience there. They'll only be booed off. It's like mentioning Steam in a thread that views PC players as "PC elitists"

There's literally no audience there this time I think. It will be more like part of a Direct shoved into an awards stream.

If people honestly booed Nintendo of all companies off the stage then all hope is lost for this industry.

Considering what's going on with the industry now, I don't think it matters what goes on with Nintendo, at the end of the day, people just won't care.

I've wondered that myself. It'd still probably be a good game, since I could get by with my mains from past Smash games (Captain Falcon, Kirby, Sonic), but it does seem like there'd be some wasted potential there.

I think a slightly more realistic outcome is that those six are the only newcomers revealed before the game launches, but not the only newcomers period.

I'm still baffled as to why is Nintendo in VGX.

Nintendo needs to expand their audience in some fashion. Yeah, the Wii U, floundering though it is, is profitable (barely), but having a larger install base for their products is always a good thing.

Plus, I dunno, not everyone watching that is gonna be the stereotypical dudebro. Sure, a good chunk of 'em will be, but not all of 'em.

And it's not like Nintendo doesn't have anything that appeals to dudebros... Smash is still pretty popular with some of 'em, and Metroid should be right up their alley (theoretically, anyway; in practice, that's highly debatable).

unoriginal bull shit avatars that shouldn't belong with mario and the rest. hated that they were in mario kart all people would do is play with their Mii's because "it's them" rather than play with proper characters.
You're sort of overlooking a big factor here. In Mario Kart, aside from things like weight and handling, all the characters basically control the same way. In Super Smash Bros., every character has a wildly different moveset from one another. Even assuming the rumors of a customizable moveset for Miis are true, they'll still play nothing like a lot of the other characters. I seriously doubt Miis will play like Kirby or Sonic, for instance.

So, while there might be incentive to play as the Mii because "oh hey, (s)he looks like me", there will be a lot of incentive to play as the others because "y'know, despite looking like me, I don't have as much fun fighting with them as I do with Captain Falcon" or similar.

AKA "I don't like them, therefore they shouldn't be in Smash" syndrome. Got it.
SmashGAF has this syndrome bad lately, I've found.

Kiefer Sutherland is actually doing the mocap for all the characters in Smash.
I can only imagine what his sessions for Kirby and Jigglypuff are like.

I don't see why people even bring up the whole customizable Mii rumor when Sakurai has denied custom movesets and custom costumes as the customization feature mentioned before. He'd just avoid commenting on it if the customization were something like that, not outright lie.

Besides, it'd give the Mii a higher importance and value than any other character in the game, which just seems completely counter intuitive for something like Smash Bros. He might add a Mii character, but I don't see it being some special custom character, aside from the obvious faces like in Mario Kart and many other games.

if anything next years E3/Nintendo direct will open with a smash brothers trailer with iwata vs reggie vs miyamoto vs sakurai as their miis, boom #1

then at the end of the direct/E3 Bayonetta gets announced and you can only get her with a DLC code for buying Bayonetta 1 Wii u edition

thats right, pre order/dlc codes up in smash brothers :P

What if you can't customized the Mii? It might be just Sakurai, Miyamoto, Iwata, Reggie, NOE President and Nikki.

More like famous Miis like Nikki and

I wouldn't really consider those Miis as you can't recreate them in Mii Maker.

Ryan from Wii Sports is another Mii character:
