2014 World Cup Draw could have been rigged

I don't understand the claim for this:

as if the soccer authority has some grudge against the United States, for example

And we heard that when Qatar won the 2022 WC. Why wouldn't FIFA want to break in the US market, which is huge? They most definitely do IMO, just like rugby, team handball, and every other sport out there want to make it big in the US. I think claiming FIFA has something against the United States is a flawed argument.

Note: I think stuff was rigged for Qatar and possibly this WC draw, but I don't think the entity has anything against the US and would love it if soccer was as popular as even hockey (the smallest of the big 4) in the US.

No it doesn't. No one gives a shit about this Mexican side. Its fucking terrible and lucky to be in the WC in the first place.

Try making it less obvious that you know nothing about tv ratings.

Game will likely be highest rated in north America outside of the final, assuming no usa Mexico matchup in later stages (lol)

This is like saying that a world cup will happen in Qatar. Baseless accusations.

Yeah right, like that will ever happen. A World Cup in a country the size of a large city, where every investigation to if it was suited for hosting a WC showed that it wasn't, where safety threats, weather issues, lack of infrastructure and lack of soccer history are legitimate concerns.

That will never happen.

You know you can apply the same reasoning to any business at all, right?

When I pay for a physical product, I assume it will work correctly. There are laws in place (at least in Australia) that protect my rights if that product does not work correctly - i.e. I'm entitled to a refund.

In sports, 'working correctly' means operating under the prescribed rules and presenting a fair competition.

Uh . . . why? I don't see any reason to assume that. And even if I were to agree with you . . . then fine, you can have a refund. But nothing more. I don't think it is the government's job to make sure there is no game rigging. Caveat emptor.

Ya but they could have ended up with a lot of stronger teams. Like France. That would have been an awesome opener. Being top seed just means you don't end up with another top seed team buy doesn't protect you from being in a group of death.

They could also very easily have not. Which they did...

Who is that woman on the far right?

Katie Nolan. She likes the hot sauce splash.

Brazil's group is a joke, Group E is all mediocre teams, B and G are relatively stacked...

And you expected a bunch of balls drawn out of bowls to produce groups that were evenly matched?

I just flipped a quarter and it came up heads three times in a row, pretty sure it's rigged by the Federal Reserve...

Hmmm while Mexico is far from their best game these days, that doesn't mean shit for TV ratings. It's fair to think most of the brazilian population will be interested in every game of their team while mexicans will always watch the national team games, both mexicans living in Mexico, mexicans in the US and mexican-americans.

Ratings will be huge for that game, Mexico's actual level means shit.

This is accurate. That's why they have so much interest in a tournament to include the entire America's. The revenue and television viewership would mean a lot of money. Mexico and their league is invited to South American tournaments already for viewership and extra revenue.

I'vs thought a lot of the tournaments including Champions League draws have been fixed for sometime now. They always seem to group the matchups with a storyline behind it. Klinnsman vs Germany, rematch for Mexico beating Brazil at Olympics. It's always a given in Champions League if a player leaves a club he will get matched up against his former club in the group stage. It's all about that storyline or history!

mouth breathing french cunt Platini was involved so of course it's rigged. it's rigging during the day, searching for underage prostitutes during the night with his sidekick Ribéry.

This is FIFA though. We know they are corrupt. They even changed how the pots are drawn this year. I wonder why....

I for the love of Blatter can't figure out why Switzerland is seeded and The Netherlands is not.

Eventually, the consequences of getting away with all the time are going to lead to something. What that is, I have no idea. I just know it will piss me off more.

Sorry I couldn't tell, but you were joking about the underage prostitution right?

From today:
Brazil's child sex trade soars as 2014 World Cup nears
The Guardian said:
Girls on the menu

Friday night at Iracema beach and a small group of blond German men are drinking beer at pavement tables, watched closely by a bouncer.

Six adult sex workers stand nearby, some sitting with them, swishing their hair from side to side. But the tourists have something else on their mind.

"They're waiting for a cue to let them know the girls they ordered are ready," says social worker GĂłis, on one of her routine surveillance rounds of child prostitution hubs. "The bar is involved. The taxi drivers that wait on the corner are probably involved too. And some hotels nearby are part of this network."

It was part of my sarcastic remark in which I agreed that a video I won't even bother watching is sufficient evidence to conclude that the draw was rigged, because "lol FIFA". You very reasonably asked me what that "fucked" meant, and I told you.

I generally regard questioning someone's reading comprehension as of the lowest order of message board discourse, so I won't condescend to that here.

I honestly thought it was an obvious troll (albeit with a grain of truth, I don't really like how the groups came out), but I guess I misunderestimated sports-gaf once again.

(Also, to your point, describing this as just balls drawn out of bowls is extremely disingenuous. The process involves a lot more than just doing a random draw of the 32 teams.)

After what I saw in S. Korea&Japan, I'd believe each and any accusation against Blatter.

Fun fact about the ref in the Italy - South Korea match

Moreno was arrested on September 21, 2010 at the John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York, while trying to smuggle in six kilograms (over ten pounds) of heroin, which was hidden in his underwear.[9] In January 2011, he pled guilty to the charges in a New York courthouse, facing a possible ten years in prison.[10] On September 23, 2011 Moreno was sentenced to 2 1/2 years in prison on the heroin smuggling charges.[11] He was released from prison 26 months later and returned to Ecuador.[12]

I for the love of Blatter can't figure out why Switzerland is seeded and The Netherlands is not.

Its because they played two friendlies against China and Indonesia and despite winning them, those matches dont earn enough Fifa-points, so they dropped in the rankins. :lol

this is the same organization that gives world player of the year to a growth hormone abusing tax thief

so rigging a draw is what they do in their sleep

lets not forget all the hispanics from other countries rooting against mexico/brazil.

That they changed the rules of the draw shortly before the ceremony was a bit shifty but i really doubt the draw itself was rigged.

I mean, they don't even need to. With their elaborate ruleset the groups have exactly the compsition they wanted.

The WC has enough history by now that there will be a story no matter the composition.

The fact that some nations are higher than one might expect, is simply due to how stupidly the rankings work.

The world cup would be much better if all teams went in the same pot and just got drawn randomly. So you could get a crazy group with like Brazil, Italy, Spain and Germany together. But nope, got to make sure the big countries that bring in loads of money for Blatter reach at least the quarter finals.

I dunno dude, who would want to see a match from a group like Algeria, Iran, Costa Rica and Bosnia ? Snoozefests guaranteed.

Me? It's much better when you have teams like that who are all somewhat close in skill level playing against each other than on super team with a bunch of shitty ones. That one team will just go on to dominate and the rest will just be left fighting for second. That isn't fun at all.

The whole point is that you want the top teams to meet each other later, not early in the competition. FIFA also wants each group to have teams from different confederations/continents.

FIFA are corrupt as hell - we all know that, But I can't help but think the author is grasping at straws here. If enough people in the world make a prediction, a few of them will be right.

Even a broken clock tells the right time twice a day.
