This is why I'm not a big fan of his commentary.
lee chung + anyone who is engaging him in discussion while providing informative commentary is a top pairing
NEC really proved that bc he got paired with like at least 2 different dudes who were analyzing matches while he got to be the hype man and providin' a good chemistry

Quotes is very knowledgeable and very hype. It's rare you have both.
He's also really knowledgable for someone that doesn't play as much as Marvel anymore and has been back focusing on anime games for like half of Marvel 3's lifespan.

hmm, maybe when I watched some time ago it was different or I was watching a different one. I still stick w/ my assessment that there are times when the hype he brings doesn't really mesh with what is going on in the game. Like chill skisonic commentating is good, just not his mad hype commentating

Yea I also think quotes is alright. I think he works best when commentating local matches/marlinpie matches.

Difference for me is, when there is a mediocre match, I at least get a bit more interested or attentive when Ski is commentating. When FilthieRich commentates.. the match is just mediocre.
Chen is kind of both ends of the spectrum at once. I just can't stand his mannerisms anymore TBH, but I'd hesitate calling him outright terrible or great.
I feel we need to redo our commentator rankings/tier lists that we did a while back.

Yup.
Shame he's only "accessible" to people speaking French, but he's clearly the best commentator I've yet to hear.
S.Kill and Ultradavid are also godtier in my opinion.
I also quite enjoy Zhi, even if he's sometimes pushing his character a bit too much...
EP is the best commentator in the history of any fighting game commentary and you cannot convince me of anything else otherwise
it is criminal that people don't know of him, but also fair since he doesn't really go to stuff or have stuff to commentate anyhow
but just going to hog for a bit and hearing him talk mad shit was enough to prove to me that even just a soundboard of EP would be a superior commentator than everyone

Zhi could be really good if he cut out the creepy stuff. But he doesn't so he is not.
This list is severely lacking Hellpockets. Funny you mention Fword, Zak Bennett is pretty good as well.
I also like Xie, Dacidbro, and ShadyK when commentating.
Edit: Definitely needs Arturo somewhere in there.

Aris is the correct answer, no matter what game we are talking about.
NEC Lee showed he can be reserved and still be entertaining. Lee and Art worked well even in the more "pg" setting majors would strive for. Also I love the catch phrase.

Personally, i like Valle (or Ultradavid for that matter) commentating because i want to learn things. Listening to people go "Ohh! OOOOHH!" ad inifinitum doesn't really do it for me, however hype it may be.

I like Art and Spooky for SF. Especially if Art is not bitching about Sim 
. Also like Yipes. I really like ultradavid. Chen most of the time as well.
Maybe I am in the minority on this, I like when commentators stay on track and don't get super crazy with catch phrases and other random shit. Most times its not funny. I mean, I like professional Yipes the best. I like Aris when he is actually talking about the game.
I know there is a lot of dead time on the mic and they got to fill it up, but idk, who knows.

I see a Dudley that's not Smug, but still, worth watching. =)
He's very knowledgeable but his hype gets grating after a while. Probably stems from the fact that he's mostly a one man show when given a mic.

Ski is an average commentator with above average enthusiasm, and he's willing to put in insane hours over a weekend commentating when no one else wants to do it. That makes him pretty okay in my book.
