PS4 system update 1.52 coming soon

Getting 1.52 now. It's a shame that when your PS4 has got a new update, it effectively breaks the ability to download games remotely from the store (as it kicks the PS4 from PSN until you have updated the firmware). Would be good for in the future the PS4 still downloads the game in the background, or perhaps auto installs the FW. I guess the latter could potentially bring all sorts of shitty problems.

Seems like there is lots wrong with PS4 at the moment. I think it needed a bit longer in the oven and I'm not really happy about them pushing it out with all these problems. Right now the blu-ray player on my console doesn't work. I haven't had time to ring them about it. I'll give them three goes. If I don't get a flawlessly functioning console by the third go I will request a refund and be done with it.

What specific movies/shows are you having issues with? I watched The Terminator, and the entire S5 of Breaking Bad over the weekend with no issues at all.

I updated mine right now.

The only issues happened was that it stopped to connect to the router after the update... so I needed to restart the console (cold boot) and it started to work again (seems like my router didn't want to give a new IP do PS4 or something like).

Weird that your BR isn't working. Mine is and has been. Factory defect, maybe? Is it not working for certain movies?

Does anyone know if this adds the ability to sort/delete apps?

Since downloading the update my PS4 has crashed twice and booted me back to the safe mode menu. Only way I have been able to get out of that both times was to pull the power cable.

One thing I've noticed is how much faster the friends list updates. Yay!

I have 696 friends on PSN, and it's always struggled to display the entire list without occasionally loading sections of names.

It just got a lot better after this patch - quite noticeable.

This update break bf4?

Or they just haven't updated BF4 yet. There was a patch for that overnight as well. Works fine for me.

I couldn't have possibly picked a worse time to swap the HDD in my PS4.
1.52 was on my stock 500gb (and I believe it writes to some kind of local flash in some way)

I put in a replacement HDD, it REFUSES to initialise with anything less than 1.52 on USB.
I can't find 1.52 (full 800mb) to download and put on USB. I found a 300mb, it rejected the file, the link on US.playstation.com is still 1.51 :/

EDIT: so if anyone has a PS4 "update file for reinstallation" (800mb) please let me know, the 300mb I believe is useless for a drive swap.

Was anyone having the issue where the store wouldn't load after playing a game? I'd play BF4 for a bit, then want to go into the store and it would just have the blue background, nothing would load. The What's New wouldn't load either. If I rebooted or even put the PS4 into standby, when I turned it back on the store would work fine until I played a game. Hopefully this fixes that.

I'd have that. Even the settings screen wouldn't load up. Just the blue background with a couple options at the bottom of the screen.

L2 readies the system for voice commands while at the system menu. Is this new? No longer have to say "PlayStation"

EDIT: This is not new. Move along.

Does this patch fix the no audio after standby some of us are having?

This isn't necessarily a PS4 issue. Next time this happens, power your audio receiver on and off. If it fixes it, that just means that the handshaking got "lost" when the PS4 was in standby. Mine does this about once a week. For what it's worth, my Dish Network receiver has the exact same problem.

My receiver just doesn't like maintaining a connection for an eternity.

Right now the blu-ray player on my console doesn't work. I haven't had time to ring them about it.

Can you describe what your system does when you insert a blu-ray? My unit only plays a portion of my discs. On the ones that don't work (around half, maybe) it acts like it's going to start playing them but it just goes to a black screen. I can pull up the control panel with Triangle but nothing ever actually plays. I have to exit back to the dash. These same discs work fine on PS3 and Xbox One.

I haven't tried since the FW update, though.

First day I had my ps4 left it on standby, had to move to another room unplugged it then plugged in next room and my ps4 went into an extra long recovery process before coming back to normal. It finished with a message that I should never do that again

Same thing would have happened to a PC if you had done that

Thank you, it actually worked! :)

Good to know. I read some other methods on GAF and around the web about resetting your account, getting trophies and a bunch of other crazy steps...I notice I try re-syncing every single trophy to see if it was just one game. It was all of them. I booted all of them(the games I have) up to see if it fixes the issue and it did.

"System stability has been improved."

Has it been instable with 1.51? Me and my friends had no problem since launch in EU, except for PSN downtime sometimes.

I hoped for MP3 support or DLNA.. So I guess we have to wait a bit more.

Used it for maybe 1.5 hours on Saturday. No problems.

Wish it were the same for me mate, I've been trying to use it every session for NFS and I can at MOST get about 4 songs to play before I get the message "Playback Has Stopped". I know it's not my internet connection and the system is connected via ethernet, quite a few reports that coincide with mine too. Pretty sad that the only way to use custom soundtracks is a paid service that is unstable as hell. We'll see what happens now, I'll try it out later this evening.

I don't think there are plans to support ps3 bluetooth headsets yet. They will fully support the pulse headsets early January.

Where in the world do you go to add a Bluetooth keyboard to the PS4? I scoured the UI and couldn't find a place to set it up. Just assumed the feature hadn't been enabled yet.

Battlefield 4 makes the system extremely unstable.

I've had what you described, as well as all sounds on my system being corrupted and distorted after playing BF4. I have to reboot my PS4 entirely to fix the sound issues.

Exactly. Connected via optical, if BF crashes, so does my sound until I reboot the PS4. Dumb
