Walmart getting "largest shipment yet" of PS4s on Sunday, Dec. 15th

According to a Walmart press release that just arrived in the inbox. I assume many other retailers will also end up with stock for the weekend.

Black Friday has come and gone, but the focus on helping customers save this holiday season continues at Walmart stores and Walmart.com. On Friday, Dec. 13 at 8:00 a.m., the retailer will drop prices on popular toys, electronics, apparel, table games and other products during its Christmas Countdown Savings Event. With only 12 days to shop before Christmas, these deals will come just in time for last-minute shoppers.

In addition, two days later, on Sunday, Dec. 15 at 8:00 a.m., Walmart’s largest shipment of the PlayStation® 4 (PS4™) – one of the most coveted gifts of the season – will arrive at stores across the country, just in time for Christmas. Walmart.com will also have a limited quantity of PlayStation 4 inventory available while supplies last.

Odd sense of deja vu, it's a bit like the Wii. Now all I need to see is a "PS4 in stock" sign in the window of a high street shop and people queueing up to get one.

There was a queue in my local Sainsbury's yesterday evening when I went to pick up some booze, word had got out that they had restocked the gaming section with new PS4s. Not sure if they sold out or not, but there was a queue coming from the gaming section and a Sainsbury's guy shouting one at a time please and only one per person over and over again.

My local Sainsbury's got one PS4 in out of the blue yesterday and were so excited they actually announced it over the PR system. I saw a couple of dudes leg it towards the electronic section but I didn't see which one of 'em won.

Do you think the same is true for most other outlets? I'm not ready to go wait in line for one yet, but if a bunch pop up on Amazon for example, I might grab one earlier than I was expecting to.

How much did the recent best buy batch last? Did they sell out again?

Best Buy's stock locator was basically sold out in my area before the stores' official open times. It was estimated by one district's average units per store that BB probably sold through around 60K on Sunday. The store by brother was at got 66 and the store a friend was at got around 80.

Walmart being walmart I'm guessing they will go through even more.

So 80-120k is what we're talking here?

The electronics department here has a sign up behind the register. I was checking out laptops and noticed the sign said Xbox One and PS4 on it, so I sidled over to check on the DVD display nearest to it and waited until there was nobody watching so I could lean in and check it out. It was kind of disappointing - one shipment coming before Christmas, expected to be the week before, no pre-orders or claims and first come, first served.

They underlined and capped the NO CLAIMS part. Does that mean no workers hiding/reserving one for themselves?

hmmm are stores bidding for who gets to restock the PlayStation 4

nah.. I'm guessing Sony is simply holding back units (so to speak) so that they can dump these massive shipments on the big stores. You constantly see stores getting 1-5 units, but then you get these press releases and Sunday ads from Best Buy, Target, Walmart, etc.

I know on Sunday my brother was reporting people getting to Best Buy after they let the ticket holders in (and the tickets were gone) pissed that they couldn't get a system. I mean... yeah... they showed up like 15 minutes before the store's opening time... Still, one would think those same people could see this Walmart ad and show up again right before Walmart opens, and at least have a better chance getting one than they did last Sunday.

I'm guessing this will be true for most other retailers within the next week or so.

Sony probablylooking to sell another 1M or so in NA through Christmas.

damn Sony bringing in the reinforcement

Someone else was saying a good chunk of the stock is being sent to GameStop.

That was Pachter. He estimated 60% of Sony shipments were going to Gamestop, going back down to 40% (or was it 30%?) after the beginning of the year.

Man Sony is making these things like nobodies business

In the same brief he said he believed Sony was at about 1.2M per month capacity with a 3 week lead time. So if that's to be believed Sony is getting 300K units to the world every week.

sigh. my luck with getting a ps4 are terrible. It being really cold here these days isn't making it any easier. There are a handful of wal-marts near by so I'll it a go.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll probably get one plus the warranty...
Do not get Walmart's Product Protection Plan (Their extended warranty). The PPP is actually through a third party, not Walmart and have a long history of not honoring their coverage. I would get the warranty though Sony since it costs just as much AND is the same length.
