Starbound Beta Thread - Begins December 4th!

As soon as you posted some of your work on here Lissar, I knew they would msg you about adding them. Extremely happy to see that turned out being true. Amazing work. Super impressed.

I won't stop honestly...heh

How do you adjust the rate of fire? I been trying the speed but nothing changes....

Rate of fire is under fireTime, not speed. Not sure what speed is related to, maybe animation speed?

Thank you! Hoping to have more soon. Maybe not today, since I have another project I must finish, but perhaps tomorrow.

Yep, my Starbound is updating too. I'll be ingame as soon as it's done!

Restart steam. I guess new character! That means I can use Liss's mods =D

I see Firetime! Thanks..prob have to treat it like a %..since 0.1 = 10 rate of fire.

I'm secretly hoping for an ore re-balance even if it means another wipe.

  • Fixed game crash when hovering some items (eg: Bubble gun!)
  • New Items
  • Drills now dig 3x3 instead of 2x2
  • Fixed birds: less angry at player, no more super-damage when hit by a falling dead bird
  • Fixed monster projectiles not balanced
  • Fixed fall damages
  • Fixed shotgun energy usage
  • Fixed low tier armors not feeling different
  • Shields are more powerful
  • It's now impossible to be hit by multiple projectiles at once
  • Gun balancing
  • Backpack Lanterns
  • You can now make coal by smelting 10 wood (Basically charcoal)
  • Search feature no longer default input in crafting view
  • Maybe more...

(IRC Log)

Did you use some 3rd party building tool to make all this? Or did you do this all ingame with just a mental image or reference paper?

All brick by brick with the exception of the large bridge (pasted in from a previous world). The Library was also built on GAF server (by hand) but pasted into my SP world.

Did sketches of stuff while waiting for the update and kind of built using it as a rough guide. It came out pretty close, honestly.

Thanks. The big draw for me in Terraria wasn't the combat or exploration (though I certainly enjoyed those immensely) but the building. That's why the last Terraria patch actually ended up being a disappointment; he added a bunch of new stuff, but a lot of it was broken or half assed. Even with that, I still made some pretty cool stuff. HaRyu will have to post screencaps of it since they were on the GAF server.

Here's my Terraria city (yes, city) screenshot.

Bonus: Here's the world; a lot of the stuff out there was just stuff I saw other people had done and wanted a copy in my world, but most of it is mine.

These are fucking amazing. I loved Terraria, but couldn't put too much thought into building because I quickly lost track to how slow and agonizing mining was in that game. I should have just joined the GAF server and built with everyone else.

Also, just wanted to say your aquaduct is pretty awesome considering the water effects in that game (and this one).

I guess that they didnt update the launcher, because i have all features. It must downloaded in the background and i havent noticed.

---

Shield finally works as intended! Just make sure to make new one in an anvil, because existing ones can not work [my didnt for example].

From 22 damage on lvl 3 planet, i got reduction to 4 damage with block.

Wow that is awesome.

Played with the chomper mod that I made, and it sort of is OP. It's a definite replacement for a pickaxe, and I can really only recommend it if you want a really easy way to make tunnels that are 4 'pixels' high. Not sure of a way I could balance it other than making it really weak and therefore slower.

So, lesson learned: making a mod like this is all about getting the balance right, and it's not as easy as I thought it would be to make something inherently balanced.

SO far for random number inputing in firetime

0.15 = rate of fire of 5.55

0.1 = 10.00

0.05 = 20.00

0.08 = 12.50

Yeah, the variable is how long it takes and the actual rate of fire is how many shots per second. If you're firing once every .05 seconds, you're firing 20 times in a second.

If you can make it destroy the stuff it tunnels through, and increase the cost of building it.

This coal change means I'm back in business. I can finally play again! It's weird though, I have a darker colored unrefined wood in my inventory that cannot be converted to coal, but the regular lighter shade can.

Nah, no one would use it if it made coal disappear.

Nerf its damage to half the same tier of pick. It'll still be superior for horizontal tunnel digging and the pick or drill would be better for general use.

Well right now it's the equivalent of a gold pick. Should I just nerf it down to copper level or maybe make it upgradeable through all the same tiers of the pickaxes but with half the damage at each tier?

Make it upgradeable at each tier.

Alright here's my home planet: -63422494, 97998931, Alpha Pi Her 20 IV. I went all the way to the bottom without finding a single ore deposit. Never had this issue before, looks like either ore generation is completely broken for some planets or maybe something is wrong locally on my end?

Edit: Found enough coal in chests to fly to another planet. Ore generation there is fine (if a bit excessive). Tons of diamond, gold, silver, and platinum. Looks like some planets are indeed broken or maybe ore generation is clustered so close together on some that the rest of the planet is barren?

I think I can do this. There are 4 tiers, right?

You can basically copy the pick progression from stone through copper to diamond and have the same material requirements for upgrades, just at 4x4 and half damage at each step. Maybe leave out stone and have copper for the first one since it's more advanced than a pick.

Made a little area for visitors to Alpha Pi Boo Majoris VI d

I'm loving the wood --> Coal change. I can finally get off the starting planet. I went to a desert and there was ore everywhere.

New complaint: Let me change the "drop" key. I hit Q too often when going for my 1 key. I just lost my awesome weapon while I was mining through a desert.

Sounds like a good idea to me. Copper -> Silver -> Gold -> Platinum -> Diamond and at 1/2 the damage of each step. Working on it now, should be up within 30 minutes.

EDIT: Actually a little more than 1/2 the damage. 1/2 the damage is just a little too slow.

WAT

I honestly gave up on the idea of controller support ever getting into this game. But they're already working on it?? My nipples are cutting through my shirt.

edit- oh wait so that's just to config your keyboard buttons, huh. I got too excited when I saw "controller options." That's good too though. It fixes my last complaint.

Fought the UFO. Didn't know how I killed it. Pretty sure its beam attacks were getting in between blocks that I placed. Kind of unfair but I was ill-equipped to handle it so idgaf. I am a bit sad it destroyed my house though. :/

Somehow I seem to be finding everything BUT techs.

Found a decent gun dps wise...BUT THE WORST FIRING MODE EVER!

Seriously...whats the point of a gun when the bullet splits halfway across the screen!
