PS4 system update 1.52 coming soon

NEVER do this. Keep your finger on the power button long enough and it will turn off, or you risk bricking your system. Since you've already lost everything you might as well try reformatting. If that doesn't work I'd just call Sony. Good luck.

Never? What do you want me to do? Look at it? I've stuck my finger on that on/off button for a good 30 seconds before unplugging it the first time. I know its a last resort thing to do. lol

I keep reading such wonderful things about Battlefield.... My PS4 turned into an AC4 appliance as soon as I started playing it, it's been solid as a rock with that game.

Have you tried a different USB stick?

Yup.

It's actually possible my PS4 was just a POS... no way to know for sure. The thing is, I don't know if my PS4 was causing issues to begin with, or if the corrupted firmware DL (due to a problem with the modem) fucked up my PS4.

I have had some weird issues with updates on PS3, but the USB thing usually resolved them. Then again, I have a new ISP and a different modem, and I don't think I've had to do firmware since switching.

lol... too confusing and pretty hard to troubleshoot.

So, my modem doesn't seem to play nice with firmware updates. Even doing it through USB seems to always result in corrupted data.

Not sure what to do to fix this...

Sounds very similar to my issues. Just a fucked box. I was on support calls with Sony trying to sort it out. They over-nighted me a fedex package and I dropped it off today to be mailed. Should have it back inside of a week.

Kinda sucks, but Sony was pretty cool about it and the reps were all very nice and (tried to be) helpful.

I recommend you get the thing fixed or whatever by Sony... pretty sure my HDD was malfunctioning causing all those problems, not the actual firmware. Unless it was the firmware that buggered my HDD.

Well actually my PS4 looked good after all that, tho when I tried to shut it off, my PS4 wouldn't shut off completely. I'd have to unplug it or as of now, I finally was able to shut it down with the on/of button which only took about 5 seconds of holding. (a thing I wasn't able to do the first time around)

Now, it's asking me once again to update the system by installing it via USB. It's driving me fucking mad. Plus now I'm talking to a Sony Rep that have absolutely no clue what he's doing. lol He basically put me on hold 5 minutes ago saying he'd be back in a minute. smh

I know it sounds weird, but you should have tried it again. The same thing happened to me while installing Warframe (seemed to happen to a lot of people). I was tempted to pull the plug because I stood there holding the power "button" for ages with nothing happening. People on a forum said don't unplug it though, and it will eventually turn off. So I tried it once again, and this time the thing actually shut down after about 10 seconds of holding the button. It's strange, but it might actually take multiple attempts.

Honestly if its taking forever to do anything just in general I would point to your hard drive going out but that's just a guess

Why would it brick? Serious questions. I hope these consoles aren't prone to bricking like last gen consoles.

Also, does the firmware install in internal flash memory or does it install on the HDD?

Don't you get the option to update via the internet in safe mode? Or does it behave like it has been completely wiped out and USB is the only way?

And the share video feature still doesn't record the last 15 min like its supposed too. Ugh

Have you tried different games? I've tried Killzone SP (haven't tested MP yet), knack and sound shapes and it seems to work flawlessly every time. I wonder if it could be game specific. Anyone facing issues with the games I tested?

I pulled the plug because my PS4 hung up the first week I had it, thankfully with no ill effect. I didn't know any better, and I might have looked for another alternative in the manual, but the freakin' manual was on the PS4 which was hung up.

After downloading all 350-ish mb of super stability goodness and installing it, I just had my first game crash, AC4 just quit on me.

So, my system... I initially attempted the firmware update via internet. Right when I turned it on the first time. And there seemed to be some issue with it. I was looking up the support number online when it suddenly did the installation on its own. It was kind of weird. I mean, I had attempted to do the update, but I got an error. And then it's just sitting there, I look over and the thing is installing the update and restarts. Everything is up an running fine it seems.

I download Resogun, and Battlefield... add a bunch of friends who sent me requests while I was still on PS3 (FL limit) and I decide I'll christen my PS4 by playing some Resogun. Launch the game, select arcade, and ............................................. loading ....................................... loading .............................................. stuck loading.

Game is stuck perpetually loading. So I try battlefield (this is after a 30 gig DL btw) and it's the same shit, but it won't even pop the title screen. Just stuck on the initial load. Try to boot into safe mode and reinstall the update via USB. But I'm getting weird firmware errors. I try a different USB-drive which I actually drove to the store to buy new. I try downloading the larger update file you use when you're upgrading your HDD. (it's 800mb instead of the normal 300mb update). Just error after error.

Okay, call Sony. Won't go over all the details of the 4-5 calls I made... but basically I did a defrag, then he had me do a quick initialization. After that I redownloaded Resogun and it actually worked. I played for an hour or so, on different levels/ships.

Great! Maybe this is sorted out now! So I redownload Battlefield (30 frigging gigs of it) and it doesn't work. Omg, wtf. Really?

Resogun won't work anymore either. Stuck on the initial load like BF4.

Call Sony. "New system, like straightaway please."

"Okay Evolved1, FedEx box is in the mail. Sorry about your trouble. It might be your HDD is malfunctioning... it might be your modem isn't playing nice with the update file. Hard to say. We'll send you a new system and rule one of them out."

The thing is... I don't think I'm getting a new system. I have no idea. I do hope they at least replace the HDD.

Hmmm. I'll give that a shot but it sounds like this fix would address HDMI handshaking or HDCP issues. I never lose the video output from the PS4. It's always there, since I can pull up the OSD for BR playback. It's like it just doesn't know where to start playing the disc and sits there.

I wasn't losing video output from the ps4 either. Like you, I could bring up other system menus. Had a spinning loading circle on my black screen too, where it just stalled indefinately. Switched inputs and back while still on the black screen, and my disc loaded up immediately upon return. Hope this fixes your problem!

I had mad stuttering during AC4 for more than a minute. Sucked, I thought my PS4 had died. After I was done boarding the ship I was fighting on it calmed down and a "Firmware successfully onstalled blabla" window popped up. Game was fine again after that.

So, thanks for giving me mad tachycardia, Sony.

Lol dude

Music Unlimited boots in 8 seconds instead of 15 seconds. I'm testing right now to see if it'll play through an entire album without stopping. And it's in general tons more responsive.
Fake Edit : NOooOooOooo... It made it five songs. But they all played smoothly. Damn.

Previewing screenshot captures doesn't crash the system after viewing a lot in succession. I'm guessing it was a memory leak and now it's fixed.

Friends list doesn't have to refresh after first start. Much better friends list.

This happens on my PS3 as well when using the XMB. I thought it was my sound setup.
I'm using optical out. You guys?

It would happen on my PS3 if I hadn't done anything in a while. The sound output would stop, and then my receiver would "miss" the first sound as it started up again. This seems different though, as it will happen right when I'm in the middle of moving down a list of something. One of the items randomly won't make a sound. Doesn't seem like the same issue to me.

Got the update early in the morning. It downloaded and installed with no problem. Everything is smooth as butter. Been playing AC4 all day. A thing of beauty.

Was installing system update while console was downloading bf4 update and after it installed I had an error on the bf4 update saying it wasn't installed properly or something. I can't figure out how to retrigger it, going into bf4 multiplayer match only gets me an infinite black loading screen. Any ideas?

Damn, your side of things looks way more complicated than mine bud, I,ve tasted a bit of it and I felt my head was cracking, I can,t imagine your suffering. lol

MEGA UPDATE on my side: I've held on the on/off button for what seemed like a eternity to get into safe mode and re-formated my PS4. (I think it was the option 6 in the safe mode, the one whitout the update called "Initialisation")

And after formating, everything is good, my PS4 shuts off good, AND, which is awesome stuff to boot, my cloud saved games cameback!! I was so happy! lol So yeah, my PS4 works like a charm now, I hope all works better for you in the near futur, Evolved1!

Good to know! Thanks! I also noticed that the store seems to be more responsive.

I downloaded the IGN app on PS4....

and was greeted with a video saying the XBOX ONE has sold 2 million units..... and then scrolled down and saw a video about XBOX ONE exclusive content for Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes.

There are also videos right at the top for Steam, and Nintendo's Smash Bros.

Anyone else think this is stupid? Does Sony not check on this stuff, or do they not even care?

Seems like this app is promoting PS4's competition to their own user base. I don't recall ever seeing PS3 news on the IGN app on 360

Any ones dashboard laggy now? Mine is crap after this update.. damn.

Very sluggish if you go to dash from game, like it takes longer to load than before. And once I exit a game its slow for 20-30 secs.

Netflix has a Halo movie on there. Sony doesn't (and shouldn't) give a fuck.

Bonus: I think this update broke my remote play.

OK Chairman... there is a place all for you; North Korea.

That's a needle in the haystack on Netflix. It's 1 movie out of hundreds of thousands.

The IGN app on the other hand.... is full of Xbox and Nintendo stuff.

and in the game trailers section, its showing me EXCLUSIVE content for the Xbox One version of MGS.

Sony should care.

It would be 8 kinds of useless if they just filtered it for Playstations stuff...........

It's a IGN App. It's not a Playstation app. IGN covers media, so you should expect all kinds of videos.

No I'm telling you man it's the same thing.
The sound will only beep once every other time I move the menu. Not everytime I move down or side to side in the XMB.
I haven't noticed it on PS4 because I turned off the sounds right away, but if I turned it back on I bet you it would do it.

WTF!

It would be stupid to filter this stuff. Wow... why would want this or even care?

NEVER do this. Keep your finger on the power button long enough and it will turn off, or you risk bricking your system. Since you've already lost everything you might as well try reformatting. If that doesn't work I'd just call Sony. Good luck.

Unless it takes minutes for that to work sometimes, this is flat out wrong. You think I don't know it's a last resort?

It fixed the library and it's problem displaying add-ons. :D

I wonder if individual game pages were fixed too, it wouldn't show all the add-ons I have on those either. Forgot to check.

Haven't noticed anything else personally, but that alone makes me happy. xD

See some other improvements people are seeing and am glad to have those fixed, especially the screenshot crashing one. Encountered that while trying to delete things I didn't want. Just a day before this update came out.

I had the IGN app on Xbox 360 and never saw trailers for PS3 exclusive content on there.

Its not stupid, its smart to filter it out. Why promote the competitions exclusive content?

Do you honestly think people couldn't find those videos everywhere else? What would be the point in filtering? It's not like it's then going to stop them knowing this stuff.

Nope just you. If you can't find PS3/PS4 content on the 360 app then the app sucks. Not everyone is a console warrior and only wants to read about Sony things.

Wut? I live in a house that's 300 years old and don't get blackouts. Get onto your landlord/body corporate/parents/yourself to sort your wiring out.

I can't believe I've seen 3 posts about blackouts on this thread so far. Where do you all live?

No it's just the power goes out when I/we are using too much juice (PS4, TV, Heaters, computers).

I don't keep my ps4 on standby, so when I turned it on it automatically started to download it and within a few minutes it was done, and back to gaming I was.

You're absolutely right. They also shouldn't allow you to visit N4G, Reddit, or NeoGAF thorough the PS4 Web Browser. Who knows what kind of Xbox Propaganda could be out there ?! You have to protect your userbase from any potentially harmful information after all.
What the hell? Are you 12? It's the only possible explanation.

Why would it brick? Serious questions. I hope these consoles aren't prone to bricking like last gen consoles.

Also, does the firmware install in internal flash memory or does it install on the HDD?
Any piece of hardware can be bricked, the PS4 is no exception. It does have a recovery mode though, so barring any hardware issues it should be pretty solid.
