So, my modem doesn't seem to play nice with firmware updates. Even doing it through USB seems to always result in corrupted data.
Not sure what to do to fix this...
Have you tried a different USB stick?

NEVER do this. Keep your finger on the power button long enough and it will turn off, or you risk bricking your system. Since you've already lost everything you might as well try reformatting. If that doesn't work I'd just call Sony. Good luck.
What's wrong with it? Been using it for almost a month with 0 problem.Fix the Blu Ray movie player please.

Sounds very similar to my issues. Just a fucked box. I was on support calls with Sony trying to sort it out. They over-nighted me a fedex package and I dropped it off today to be mailed. Should have it back inside of a week.
Kinda sucks, but Sony was pretty cool about it and the reps were all very nice and (tried to be) helpful.
I recommend you get the thing fixed or whatever by Sony... pretty sure my HDD was malfunctioning causing all those problems, not the actual firmware. Unless it was the firmware that buggered my HDD.
Never? What do you want me to do? Look at it? I've stuck my finger on that on/off button for a good 30 seconds before unplugging it the first time. I know its a last resort thing to do. lol
Yup.
It's actually possible my PS4 was just a POS... no way to know for sure. The thing is, I don't know if my PS4 was causing issues to begin with, or if the corrupted firmware DL (due to a problem with the modem) fucked up my PS4.
I have had some weird issues with updates on PS3, but the USB thing usually resolved them. Then again, I have a new ISP and a different modem, and I don't think I've had to do firmware since switching.
lol... too confusing and pretty hard to troubleshoot.

Well actually my PS4 looked good after all that, tho when I tried to shut it off, my PS4 wouldn't shut off completely. I'd have to unplug it or as of now, I finally was able to shut it down with the on/of button which only took about 5 seconds of holding. (a thing I wasn't able to do the first time around)
Now, it's asking me once again to update the system by installing it via USB. It's driving me fucking mad. Plus now I'm talking to a Sony Rep that have absolutely no clue what he's doing. lol He basically put me on hold 5 minutes ago saying he'd be back in a minute. smh
And the share video feature still doesn't record the last 15 min like its supposed too. Ugh
I know it sounds weird, but you should have tried it again. The same thing happened to me while installing Warframe (seemed to happen to a lot of people). I was tempted to pull the plug because I stood there holding the power "button" for ages with nothing happening. People on a forum said don't unplug it though, and it will eventually turn off. So I tried it once again, and this time the thing actually shut down after about 10 seconds of holding the button. It's strange, but it might actually take multiple attempts.
This is making me rage. All this stability and no bug fixes. Come on, man.And the share video feature still doesn't record the last 15 min like its supposed too. Ugh

Hmmm. I'll give that a shot but it sounds like this fix would address HDMI handshaking or HDCP issues. I never lose the video output from the PS4. It's always there, since I can pull up the OSD for BR playback. It's like it just doesn't know where to start playing the disc and sits there.
This happens on my PS3 as well when using the XMB. I thought it was my sound setup.
I'm using optical out. You guys?
So, my system... I initially attempted the firmware update via internet. Right when I turned it on the first time. And there seemed to be some issue with it. I was looking up the support number online when it suddenly did the installation on its own. It was kind of weird. I mean, I had attempted to do the update, but I got an error. And then it's just sitting there, I look over and the thing is installing the update and restarts. Everything is up an running fine it seems.
I download Resogun, and Battlefield... add a bunch of friends who sent me requests while I was still on PS3 (FL limit) and I decide I'll christen my PS4 by playing some Resogun. Launch the game, select arcade, and ............................................. loading ....................................... loading .............................................. stuck loading.
Game is stuck perpetually loading. So I try battlefield (this is after a 30 gig DL btw) and it's the same shit, but it won't even pop the title screen. Just stuck on the initial load. Try to boot into safe mode and reinstall the update via USB. But I'm getting weird firmware errors. I try a different USB-drive which I actually drove to the store to buy new. I try downloading the larger update file you use when you're upgrading your HDD. (it's 800mb instead of the normal 300mb update). Just error after error.
Okay, call Sony. Won't go over all the details of the 4-5 calls I made... but basically I did a defrag, then he had me do a quick initialization. After that I redownloaded Resogun and it actually worked. I played for an hour or so, on different levels/ships.
Great! Maybe this is sorted out now! So I redownload Battlefield (30 frigging gigs of it) and it doesn't work. Omg, wtf. Really?
Resogun won't work anymore either. Stuck on the initial load like BF4.
Call Sony. "New system, like straightaway please."
"Okay Evolved1, FedEx box is in the mail. Sorry about your trouble. It might be your HDD is malfunctioning... it might be your modem isn't playing nice with the update file. Hard to say. We'll send you a new system and rule one of them out."
The thing is... I don't think I'm getting a new system. I have no idea. I do hope they at least replace the HDD.
Music Unlimited boots in 8 seconds instead of 15 seconds. I'm testing right now to see if it'll play through an entire album without stopping. And it's in general tons more responsive.
Fake Edit : NOooOooOooo... It made it five songs. But they all played smoothly. Damn.
Previewing screenshot captures doesn't crash the system after viewing a lot in succession. I'm guessing it was a memory leak and now it's fixed.
Friends list doesn't have to refresh after first start. Much better friends list.
I downloaded the IGN app on PS4....
and was greeted with a video saying the XBOX ONE has sold 2 million units..... and then scrolled down and saw a video about XBOX ONE exclusive content for Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes.
There are also videos right at the top for Steam, and Nintendo's Smash Bros.
Anyone else think this is stupid? Does Sony not check on this stuff, or do they not even care?
Seems like this app is promoting PS4's competition to their own user base. I don't recall ever seeing PS3 news on the IGN app on 360

Netflix has a Halo movie on there. Sony doesn't (and shouldn't) give a fuck.

That's a needle in the haystack on Netflix. It's 1 movie out of hundreds of thousands.
The IGN app on the other hand.... is full of Xbox and Nintendo stuff.
and in the game trailers section, its showing me EXCLUSIVE content for the Xbox One version of MGS.
Sony should care.
No I'm telling you man it's the same thing. It would happen on my PS3 if I hadn't done anything in a while. The sound output would stop, and then my receiver would "miss" the first sound as it started up again. This seems different though, as it will happen right when I'm in the middle of moving down a list of something. One of the items randomly won't make a sound. Doesn't seem like the same issue to me.

How did you post this so fast??
WTF!
It would be stupid to filter this stuff. Wow... why would want this or even care?
I had the IGN app on Xbox 360 and never saw trailers for PS3 exclusive content on there.
Its not stupid, its smart to filter it out. Why promote the competitions exclusive content?

Wut? I live in a house that's 300 years old and don't get blackouts. Get onto your landlord/body corporate/parents/yourself to sort your wiring out.
I can't believe I've seen 3 posts about blackouts on this thread so far. Where do you all live?
You're absolutely right. They also shouldn't allow you to visit N4G, Reddit, or NeoGAF thorough the PS4 Web Browser. Who knows what kind of Xbox Propaganda could be out there ?! You have to protect your userbase from any potentially harmful information after all.I downloaded the IGN app on PS4....

It fixed the library and it's problem displaying add-ons.![]()
Any piece of hardware can be bricked, the PS4 is no exception. It does have a recovery mode though, so barring any hardware issues it should be pretty solid. Why would it brick? Serious questions. I hope these consoles aren't prone to bricking like last gen consoles.
Also, does the firmware install in internal flash memory or does it install on the HDD?
