Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 3: Ridley's Believe It or Not!

Well damn. It looks like one hell of a stage hazard at this point..
How?

"Pic of the day. Dismantle! Unite!! Yellow Devil!!!"
Based on this picture, I can make 2 predictions:
1. There is co-op mode in Adventure mode, and the Yellow Devil is one of the bosses(this theory is further evidenced by the fact that there is no moving platform towards the left side of the stage).
2. Or, this is a stage hazard designed to annoy the crap out of people.( Though, this would make me happy, because it increases the chance of a Dr. Wily boss fight in the story mode)
If that's a stage hazard, it sure looks obtrusive.
Yeah, I have no idea why anyone would think that the Yellow Devil, with its strange attack patterns and flying globs, would make a good stage hazard. I think that we can assume that this is not the case, however.

The platform moves along a line that vanishes and reappears (I assume in different configurations); this is visible during the megaman portion of the developer direct.

Not to discredit the rest of your post of course, just figured I'd point it out.

Brawl had co-op for basically everything too. The initial clip with the Yellow Devil in the reveal trailer also seemed to have no moving platforms when it appeared. And we got some gameplay videos in that stage back during E3, and it never popped up. So, the Yellow Devil being some kind of boss battle fits in with what we've seen so far.

It also seems way too intrusive for a stage hazard (all smaller platforms never seem to be around when it is, and its attack covers most of the arena). Not even Dialga and Palkia had an effect like that.

seeing a pic of it in action.. yeah I don't want this as a stage hazard if the level is going to be tiny. looks way too cheap as is

This Palutena mod for Brawl which I use in Project M is pretty cool. When you get Final Smash, she gets her gear.

that is pretty dang cool!

also green hill zone is sinking into the ocean! AHHHHHHHHHHHH

We have to evacuate all of the animals!!!!

Out of no-where, but I'm actually fine with more Pokémon characters in Smash Bros, because they're always some of the most unique fighters in the game.

I seriously do want Mewtwo back in Smash 4 though. I love playing him in Melee and even Project M. Sakurai's "We are thinking about it." comment made me hopeful.

I wonder if the Yellow Devil is indeed a hazard or if we're looking at a Boss Battles mode or something like that. Like, battle classic bosses from the franchises (if there's no story mode).

Megaman's handheld stage will be based on Battle Network.

It's be a fairly good stage, nothing too special but then another one with a few differences will appear and then another and another, two in different colours, and another…

Or maybe "competitive" players should man up and learn how to master stage hazards...

Ruh-oh.

In terms of characters, I hope Sakurai see's the massive fanbase (myself included) who wants Mewtwo back in the fold. And it would be cool to get a Pokemon from a Type that hasn't been represented yet (no ELECTRIC, FIRE, GRASS, WATER, or PSYCHIC type). Unless of course, it's like a secondary attribute.

In all honesty, I'm not too familiar with alot of Nintendo properties of recent times. I would like to see a second Metroid rep (Ridley!!!). lol

I'd be great if they did a 3 character reveal trailer and Little Mac was shown last. :p

Also, I've decided your new avatar will be the Little Mac vs my little pony one Heath so graciously found for you.

It'd be far from great D:

I've also found some avatars for you, just need to make a final decision.

Look, they're fun and all in a casual environment, but in a competitive environment, they stop the fight. There is a community of players that enjoys the game in a different way than you do, and it doesn't hurt you if options are afforded to make the experience better for them.

Merchandising. Pokemon has other stuff than anime you know. :P

Also Mewtwo and Pichu are pretty popular. Oak even stole Elm's thunder in GS.

Also Goldeen was never a dud even in the anime.

1. Meowth is still merchandised heavily because of the anime, and yes I know, but that's all Sakurai used to pull from.

Pokemon+Plush+Pikachu+Meowth+Pokabu.JPG

2. Mewtwo and Pichu are popular, but so is Meowth still.

Japan votes for most popular Pokemon, Meowth hits number 5.

3. Yes, Goldeen was. Goldeen's splash is a reference to Goldeen flopping around useless back in an episode of Season 1. Just like Saffron City in 64 is based off the anime and we have trophies in Melee from the anime. Sakurai pulling heavily from it in 64-Melee was my whole point. Goldeen can't even learn splash in the games.

Although, none of this means Meowth will get in. There are too many Pokemon now and he has almost no support. Plus, Sakurai pulls more from the actual games now. Jigglypuff has also made a name for herself and is part of the original twelve and this and that all cause of her appearances in Smash. So there's that.

does it bother you that people play the game competitively or something
I believe most of the bother [in the Smash community] stems from SmashBoards and the way they dismiss anything non tourny and a waste of time. Anything can technically be competitive if the rules allow for it.

Okay, I've been sitting idling by basically. I'm ready for some news on the game.. I want to know when it's coming out. That's all.. Just tell me when it's coming out, or tell me that that German Nintendo guy is wrong about it being Spring, because that would be incredible.

except this rarely happens, and is almost entirely the other way around, with people dismissing competitive play as something for losers

I don't think there is a single competitive community that is hated more by its own fanbase than Smash, which is especially hilarious now that relationships with the FGC are all patched up

Absolutely not. It just amuses me how "competitive" Smash Brothers play (usually) involves taking out the strategic use of items and stage hazards. I would say it's an undeniable fact that it takes more skill to consistently win with extra variables on-board...

yeah, the intense strategy of not F-smashing into a bomb-omb spawn in Melee was amazing-oh wait
items were originally removed almost completely because of those exploding spawns, btw
as for the stagelist, that should not require an explanation, even if I think they've gone a little too ban-happy as of late

Not really, since item spawn times and locations are random. In a 1v1 match I could get lucky and have a bob-omb spawn right next to me, so I can grab it almost immediately, throw it at you and get a kill. Whereas in a no-items environment I could run at you, try to attack but whiff, giving you a chance to deal serious damage or KO me.

Same can apply to stage hazards, you could recover on a stage, but then the stage hazard activates and kills you. Whereas in a stage like Battlefield, you could recover, then potentially kill me.

I mean, that's clearly a stage hazard.

It was also clearly a stage hazard when they showed it in the first trailer but people insisted to high heaven that it can't be.

You are confusing 'extra variables' with someonthing purely random in nature. Let's start out with me saying I like items. They are fun sometimes. Now;

Items spawn randomly. In any spot on the map. Sometimes 1 item, or a whole barell full. Sometimes that barrel will explode. Sometimes it spawns over your characters head, and explodes right on top of you.

Sometimes items spawn and float around the middle of the stage's air space. These kinds of things don't add a strategic element to a game of this nature. It instead adds chaos. They are fun to play, but it being fun does not make having them in play not chaotic, and random.

I'm still not giving up hope that it's an assist trophy. I think it'd be a really really really annoying stage hazard, but a pretty good assist trophy.

Here you go Dimitri! Welcome to the herd! Feel free to say hi to Oreomunsta while you're here. =P

Hah, I expected worse. does not affect me since im a normal Brony.
Emphasis on the normal

But non the less, good game. =P Will wear until tomorrow.

Sorry TB! I have failed!! DX

I feel the same way about ultra-competitive Smash players that I do about people with kinky fetishes.

Good for you, but we're having a normal discussion, you should get a blog or something.

but have you seen OT at times :P

And tournament players call the casual players "scrubs".

Both sides are as bad as each other.

I don't think you know when players are called scrubs
(you're welcome to ask FGC-GAF at any time though)

It looks to me that he is a stage hazzard, second time he has been shown and he is on the same stage. Maybe he is a stage hazzard that shows up rarely, like Cresselia in the pokemon stage in brawl.

It warms my heart seeing the two robo busters together. <3

I don't think anyone's surprised Yellow Devil is a stage hazard, but what's surprising is he's a stage hazard that spans the entire length of the stage. I think that's where some people are concerned.

They should just add a stage hazard toggle. Sakurai allows us to tweak nearly every other variable to our liking, even turning individual items on and off and adjusting their frequency. By this point he's probably heard enough feedback to know there are people happy with hazards and people happier without them. Might as well add an option to toggle them on and off, since many stages are simple enough to work with or without them.

I'd like to see Bass, or Proto Man as an alt for Rock.

I dunno, I think it all depends on what the rules Sakurai sets up for alts are. He might say "No other characters as alts," but we won't know for a while, unless he said if he concidered Male Wii Fit Trainer a different character from Female, because if he does that would blow the door open for all sorts of alts.
