So now the yearly quest for a Christmas break RPG. Rainbow Moon, or Ys? I've got about 10 days off from work, so which should I dive into?

I think I'm all rpg's out guys. :( The vita has definitely introduced me back to side scrollers, arcade shooters, and puzzle games.

heres the way i see it:

is you current card nearly full of legit owned games?

if yes, then time to upgrade card size.

if no, and your card is mainly full of PS+ free games, you don't need a new card.

also, finally changed over to 100pp a few days ago - can't believe it took my years to do it...taking getting used to, but i like it.... thread moves way slower

Game Suggestion: Killzone Mercenary - it's a great game through and through even if you're not much of a FPS or MP fan. or killzone even ( this is my first KZ)

hmm i would say 50 50
50% PS+
50% purchased digital titles

Ys is gonna my first physical cart game lol

Ehhh, I'd say it's debatable (and I've seen people defend both stances) whether time is best spent on shortcut runs or a full run. Of course, at the beginning shortcut runs are essential for learning world 4's many, um, attractions and how to deal with them. I personally think that it's still better to do shortcut tries than a full run, but I'm not so clear on the subject and I've seen it defended both ways (a jetpack should make Olmec much easier, for example, as would a ton of bombs, and you can't get either in world 4 as there's no shops).

That's a little less clear-cut than it seems. Currently we got:
Uncharted (yearly)
Gravity Rush (yearly)
Stealth Inc (previous months, it still lingers apparently according to PS3Trophies).
Sonic Racing (this month)
Liberty City Stories (this month, PSP)
Guacamelee (this month cross-buy, note it takes one PS3 slot, as the only other PS3 monthly is Grid 2)

So depending on your definition, we have anywhere from 3 (strictly Vita this-monthlies and yearlies) to 6.

That would be the case if there were not going to be any yearlies and/or they were going to be the same amount from now on; otherwise, you still technically get more games than we do. :D

Spelunky: I've beaten the game once. ONCE. In something like 700 tries. I've made it to Olmec three, maybe four, times. I spent a bunch of time once I unlocked the temple shortcut trying to finish the game and could not do it. I just didn't have enough bombs to navigate things properly. Dealing with Anubis with 4 bombs and no paste? Good luck with that. I agree with Esoteric, who I consider to be the VitaGAF resident guru of Spelunky, when he says that shortcuts are only for practice and unlocks.

PS+: The program is the same, no matter what. There are 6 "Vita" designated games at any time. So nobody ever gets "only 3" games per month. As a perk, the EU guys seem to like to pick good games for your PS+ that come with cross-buy, so you actually get more games if you're a PS+ subscriber who just cares about Vita, since those PS3 games come with cross-buy. LIMBO, Guacamelee, Jak & Daxter, were all bonus. As far as to whether you have 2 "evergreen" titles or 3... that's what I was saying is of no consequence... since the program has always (to my knowledge, both in EU and NA) offered 2 Vita games per month, the only thing that changes is that some games may remain in the Vita IGC for longer periods of time. It might change the dynamic of how people subscribing month to month plays out, but that's about it -- in the end, there's still 2 new Vita games per month and they replace 2 of the non-evergreen titles. It just means your non-evergreen titles may stick around longer. :)

I'll try that then. It's baffling why it's tilt only.

Not really.
The game was designed to use six axis motion controls.
So tilt, just like Flower, is pretty much the default.

I don't think PS+ matters. If you plan on keeping a Vita, especially if you own a PS3 and definitely if you own a PS4, you're most likely going to have PS+ for the life of your Vita (as well you should).

So in this case, what really matters is if your card is full of games you don't want to delete once finished -- games that you want to be able to play spontaneously as the mood strikes you.

When I apply this logic, I had no choice but to go to a 64gb card -- my 32gb was full to the brim and has a ton of fighters and shmups and things I'm not likely to delete. When I get to playing and finishing Atelier Totori Plus? Sure, that game can get deleted and will probably never be reinstalled freeing up some space. But am I going to delete Blazblue CS2E anytime soon just because it's PS+? No. It will stay on my card with the fighters I purchased outright like UMvC3, SFxT, MK9, etc.

As far as 100ppp, the thread moves at the same speed, it just may seem slower to you because you're only "on a new page" 1/2 as often as you were before. :P

Do you want me to reply more so the thread moves faster? :P

----

Does the PSV 2000 still have the slow transfer speeds? I can download things faster than I can transfer stuff in my Vita so it really defeats the purpose of having that cable.

Guys, never played a Valkyria Chronicles before (I know, I'm a horrible person).

Can I just get into VC2 on my Vita right away or I have to play the first on PS3 before?

You can play VC2 without playing the original. You'll miss some references though.

You really should play the original. It's really good.

Thanks! I'll get the first one then.

I was planning on starting the game soon but I think I'll just find a cheap copy of the first one and then go through my huge backlog while it arrives, then play the second one on my Vita.

I find it harder every time to sit in front of my TV to game nowadays. Perhaps I'm just too busy. But it is also my Vita's fault, it's just so much more convenient to be able to have console experiences anywhere.

Dangit, you got my hopes up there, I thought it was going to be a rumour about the Vita version being alive again.
:lol
Bioshock Vita is never going to happen
Yes, it's like 2 maps or something like this if I remember correctly. And the last scenario, Proving Grounds, it's kinda good since it add something new I won't spoil you. You can always the list of areas in a walthrough for some confirmation.
Guess I'll take your word for it and solider on through the game since it's almost over

You guys realize communists use 50ppp.
You dont want to be communists do you?

I see Shahid revving up dat hype machine again....
You have it backwards
I'd love to get portable God Hand and Okami HD. Never going to happen.

YES! GIVE ME OKMAI NOW! I'D BUY IT A 3RD TIME!

So this is the Official response ...(4 days later)

Are you in the US? I can save you a few dollars on a copy of VC1 if you are.

Am I the only one having troubles with PSN on Vita (EU here)? It takes a lot of time to get into the store or to see friend list. On Ps3 everything seems to work.

How does the MP in Terraria work? I can't find a joinable game, it's always searching.

Yeah it's really weird, I think it only shows friend's games that are being hosted with "invite only" not selected.

Although I heard rumblings of it not working in skype. I was using party chat last night when I tested it, sent you an invite which you allowed ;P

Nearly 500 ratings in a single day, not bad. It's really nice on Vita too...

oh need to send that friend request, done B-Genius, up for mp whenever.

PS+ matters. If I don't own many retail games at the time ( or slowly buy them) why should I spend an exorbitant amount of money on a card that's unnecessary as soon as I stop using PS+. I don't want to be left with 30 unused gbs..I'm not saying he shouldn't get one, but if it's not urgent for him to increase his capacity to hold games he owns, then he could wait until the card drops in price a bit. I mean I can see your point, especially considering it's a gaffer and odds are he plans to have PS+ for the unforeseeable future. Also, the fact that he's 50/50 means he'll fill up his current card with owned games sooner than later. But, my opinion still stands that you shouldn't be upgrading cards for the hefty prices they are in order to fit more ps+ games on that technically just disappear and leave you with empty space if you don't buy that many digital games.

I hit capacity on my 32, but im not running off to get a 64 immediately. there's plenty of room for me to still buy games, and by the time I get close enough to filling it with owned games the 64 will be lower in price.

I mean if you got the money to burn or know you'll be filling up with owned games soon then go for it, else just wait.

Also, if theres a PS+ game that you like so much that you'd want to have it forever, I think you should just buy the game.

You send me an invite? Never saw it.

Playing it the first time, I got hooked a little bit yesterday. I don't get the special rules for NPCs moving in though. Is it ok to have parts of your house as dirt, like the back wall?
I put chairs, torches and tables in the room still it wasn't a eligible room for my guide.

I tried digging down to the bottom on a small map yesterday and only scratched the surface on a small map. Can't imagine how long it will take me.
From the pacing I have to say it is a little bit slow. They should show a boss enemy sooner. Right now, I am just doing the same stuff.

I know what you mean about pacing, it's sort of basically leaving me to explore until I find more hearts I think, then better weapons, which is kind of nice in a open sort of game like this.

I tried doing a dirt wall once but it didn't work "house not suitable", needs the door and wood wall at least I think.

i got rayman legends on vita and one thing that is bugging me is the murphy levels, anyway to turn them off and let me play them myself like on ps3?

So it turns out in Spelunky the climbing gloves completely screw you over on the final boss. Sticking to olmec when trying to move under him does not help the situation. Lesson learned. Do not buy or collect the climbing gloves.

But the good news is I'm making it to the final boss more consistently now. It's only a matter of time until I beat the game in one run.

^ haha

Not doing so well in Terraria. Have a whole bunch of connected rooms but only the tutorial guy has moved in. Keep losing my money when I die, should probably leave it at the house.

If I go left or right the corruption soul sucking things come at me. I have a bow and flaming arrows but when there is like 5 of them I can't keep going. Takes a few hits to kill them.
When I tunnel I run into the death worm thing that I don't even try and attack. Goes crazy on you.

Any tips would be appreciated. So far my best thing is having collected enough fallen stars for a mana bar...that is currently useless. Need them hearts or a way to figure out how to get gear that is better than wood...maybe try and get lucky with pots?

Edit: Common, what's up with these wall-hacking worms chasing you even to your home, even after killing you! Need to build something higher up?

Hurry up with Terraria, America!

--finally got enough iron bars that an anvil option showed up, on my way to better weapons and tools finally! Looking good. Just realised you make glass from sand as well hah, will get some light in these rooms.

Olmec takes some time to learn, have fun with beating the game
There is still hell after Olmec

Again, I don't agree with this. It doesn't matter where the game from. Unless you're debating letting your PS+ lapse (have you had your sanity checked?), your PS+ games aren't going anywhere. And unless you let your subscription lapse, you can't outright buy the game.

I guess it depends on if you're full digital or only digital for PS+ and digital only purchases... but even then, it's a matter of convenience and what matters to you. If you want to keep the games on your card digitally and you've filled up a 32, there's no reason not to move to a 64 because a chunk of those are PS+ games.

Oh nooo, EU got some a week before the US.

It's not like we suffer this with delays that can be up several months on a regular basis.

Yes, I'm salty.

Pish posh, that happens to us too.

You just need to be smart with the climbing gloves and you can make it work... it gets a bit nasty if you're doing the "make olmec kill himself then climb out" method, but they're so ridiculously useful everywhere else that they can be worth the hassle. :)

Yeah the climbing gloves are more of a boon than anything. So many times they have saved my ass.

Also trying to get to the city of gold is killing me.

I need to read up a bit on Terraria, I'm trying to play it like Minecraft. I bought it when it originally released on Steam but haven't played it since. So many things have been added it seems. It does look great on the Vita screen though.

I've played both and I don't think that one is better than the other. It is more about your preferences in it's mechanics.

Ys 7 is a more traditional RPG than Oath. While Oath is more of a hack and slash game and needs more skill in dealing with tougher enemies rather than just leveling up. Both are good games and you can't go wrong in picking which one to play first.

Some guys asked me the same thing in the November thread. Here is my answer :

I think this one could be done at home using some toothpaste, a polish or a baking soda.

What sort of sorcery is this? x_x This is amazing, thanks. lol.

No one should miss out on Spelunky. Even if you don't play it now. Have it on your vita if it's on sale, it will come in really handy eventually, excellent platformer but you got to put in time to get the reward, but it's not an endless grind of the same level and memorizing sequences, it's just about getting used to the surroundings and getting around them smartly. Really good gameplay and movement mechanics once you've played a bit.

Gotta say Terraria is great to have on the Vita too, not sure how it holds with 8 players but it's really nice solo and with someone else. Pretty great controls for no mouse too.

Bit Trip Runner 2 seems popular so I'll look into it more myself but even I'm feeling a bit swamped with games at the moment, want to get further in stick it to the man as well before giving the Doki Doki Universe trial a decent chance and don't want to leave those recent ps1 pickups untouched forever as I usually do with them.

It's normal, It happens with every vita game, on screenshot colors look more washed out and plain, look at these(os screenshot vs cam screen)

J9xeR.jpg

CMVzx.jpg

It's not the best example but it makes visible some of the differences in shades(look at the blue ones of the car), contrast etc, on vita games look "deeper" and more colorful.

Great post in the portable screenshot thread. Really makes it obvious how washed out things are in screenshots, not just the compression.
