edit: I'm actually looking forward to some fun, trollish questions. Which is why I think live updating on the main stream page would be sweet as an end-game. Stuff like, "is he going to drop these lightning loops?" during a combo or "is Vergil broken?" after a blowup.

Update: I've just gotten the code that will allow for refreshes of the polling in-page to work without having to refresh the page. You'll have to refresh when there are new polls, but for new results, I have you covered.

In the future I'll see about getting new polls added to the page without refreshes, but that's a longer-term undertaking.

Nah, we just have a pretty fundamental design philosophy difference on it. "Buffing" it competitively takes away from what I see as its main function - mass style/combovid potential. I see is as the ultimate "Johnny" assist.

Reading through the summary- liking the overall system changes.

You still have that though.

Like if you want your assist to come up with 1D2C you just charge up 2Cs as Dorm, tag out, then call Liberation assist twice and you will get 2C1D. Or you can call it 4 times to get 3D0C. Or you can charge 1C as Dorm on point, call the assist 3 times and it will come out as 2D1C. This makes the assist much more versatile while still retaining its unique flavor which is that it's multiple assists in one.

Yeah, I like the crappy things coming out though. It's like buffing Phoenix Wright heavily - I kinda come in a way similar to how they treat Dan in SF- intentionally suboptimal.
 
Lol I'm not a Top player, unless you're referring to my GateKeeper status, in which case I'm a S Tier Gatekeeper. Also Australia will forever be S tier in my heart, it's why I came for SS 2013 on my own bread (and maybe for my salty runback x 2 vs Ant Man).

You know those "low tier hero" types? This is for them. Not every character should be for everyone. In the same way you don't want certain mechanics in a competitive game to be top-tier because they're totally unfun. (Hi, Zero. Hi Hexproof in MTG.)

yeah, I don't get these people. It's like Capcom when AE was released, they nerfred characters like Ryu, Chun and Honda TO THE GROUND and put absurdly overpowered Yun on it.

FG's should have only good and viable characters. I know this is almost impossible to do, but this NEEDS to be the goal

The vast majority should be tuned appropriately. Having joke/handicap characters isn't inherently a problem, though. There's an audience for them.

I don't think Phoenix Wright should be considered a "Dan" character. The character is popular enough where he can afford to be a bit stronger.

There's a big difference between "low tier" and "not top tier".

I 100% agree that a character like Phoenix Wright should not be top tier. However, I also do not think he should specifically designed to be the worst character in the game overall. Basically, the way Frank West was balanced is fine... the default character sucks but you can make him better and he stays good unlike Phoenix Wright who only stays good for a little while and goes back to being a shit character.

Likewise, I would not intentionally make easy execution characters top tier or too good. Then they dominate tournaments especially early on and people get fed up with the game (like let's say Superman in Injustice or Wolverine in Vanilla).

Zero is unfun because he has bugged mechanics or stuff that is too good that would obviously had been fixed if it got caught early. As a character design he is perfectly fine and actually very interesting because his entire game plan revolves around charging a fireball and maintaining that fireball charge which means giving up a normal button in the neutral and using an execution method that other characters don't have to deal with.

To me a mechanic that is unfun and should not be as good as it is are Hidden Missiles or Vanilla Phoenix.
 
Also looking at these two ideas for UMVC3 changes from James Chen. I don't know how they would actually change much. Meter is important and may reduce some of the more spam/continuation stuff going on but it doesn't really address many other issues like Air tech, Xfactor being too buff, etc.

I don't think anyone thinks you are a bad commentator. I think you shine in the supplementary commentator role with skisonic/yipes taking the main hype role. IMO, your style and voice are a little too vanilla to carry matches by yourself.

Which two ideas? I am not sure what you are referring to here.

Also if you don't know we made a change, you should read the annotation list. The changes are explained in great detail here.
 
Watched a lot of combo vids for TvC while I was travelling this week. I like that game so much more than Marvel. :/

I have two weeks off soon! How is Wolf in VF5? I want to spend a lot time with the game if I can, well, as much as also playing Starbound will allow.

I agree that PW shouldn't be top tier, but he, and every single character in any game, should be "good".
Using examples, I consider Ryu a "good" character in AE2012, and...let's say...Dante in Marvel. They have all the tools necessary to beat other characters, but not helm breakers, or unlockables, or stupid vortex and etc.

That's not in our suggested change list though so I am assuming someone else made that request/suggestion.

Scaling meter gain would really hurt a character like Chun Li. Right now she has mediocre damage but good meter gain which makes her a usable battery. With this change she will have mediocre damage and mediocre meter gain. It also marginalizes the high execution long combos where even though they don't do a lot more damage, the execution is rewarded with meter.

I am not sure I understand the second part. Is it supposed to say that you get more meter for getting hit? If so that was a big problem in Vanilla MVC3 where people would sacrifice their first two characters for Phoenix as killing two characters would produce around 3 bars and you already started with 1 bar. I need more clarification on this because this idea sounds worse than the previous one.

Ok I understand now what he is saying after reading the Twitter conversations.

He is basically saying that meter gain should be scaled (around the same value as damage scaling presumably) and he later on said that XF would have to be appropriately tweaked and scaled. His second change is that the same scaling applies to the character being hit only the meter scaling is positive.

I don't understand the reasoning for the second change, all it does is buff Phoenix dramatically and allows the defensive player to have more options in the end when they are getting beat on and they end up with a ton of meter. I understand the reasoning for the first one and that is to tone down long combos but it doesn't fix TODs and it still punishes combo creativity and team synergies.

Like I could see this change being implemented in a future game but in the current game it would be abysmal for a ton of characters who don't build enough meter as it is like Storm. The characters who do long combos will still do long combos because they are the most optimized in terms of damage and meter gain. Even with scaling for meter gain, people would use those combos.
