Indie Games [December] Now Voting - Post 741!

Weird. It's not handled through Humble?

Yes, I could download it from Humble. The game consists in collecting yellow stuff, and to do so, you will need to observe your environment, and understand a small puzzle (for instance, what you have to do in order to get this yellow diamond from some tree branches). The game is a bit like Toki Tori 2 in the sense you are not explained much about what to do, you have to figure out your interactions with the other creatures, and you can wander around if you are stuck with a situation.

Are you going to use Twitch.tv to stream?

Twitch, Ustream, whatever allows me to save these broadcasts afterwards. Twitch apparently has some new guidelines and doesnt autosave broadcasts anymore.

Unless they've changed it, there's a checkbox you can toggle in account settings to archive all broadcasts. Although, saving them forever requires you to individually click them all if that's what you were getting at.

I stumbled upon Quantum Party Crasher on Indiestatik. It won some kind of game jam.

Anyway, the game is a neat little stealth game in the style of Monaco. The premise is pretty ridiculous and it's free, so there you go.

Twitch is a good one to go with. It'll let you archive your broadcast, and like Deputy Dangle said, it'll let you save 'em forever as long as you tell it to. You can also send 'em over to youtube if you want.

picked up Dungeon Of The Endless
pretty fun for a couple hours
but it's lacking an endgame and isn't gonna have much replay value right now
they'll hopefully keep adding, some good bones to it right now
basically FTL meets Tower Defense meets dungeon crawler

Ah thanks, will try Twitch then first.

I would hold off on that until the furor over game review channels and LP's getting autonuked dies down some. New youtube policies are destroying long established channels left and right for the moment.

So I'm thinking of trying EUIV today. If I don't make it back in the next 125hrs, please send a letter to my family and friends

If you manage to learn it, see you in march.

Sounds fun. How's the general interface and info conveyance? If there is one thing I remember about Endless Space is that it had a really nice UI construction. I hope that trend continues so Endless Fantasy Wars (or whatever that game is called) ends up being rather special.

You mean Endless Legend? From the screenshots they released the UI reminds me of Endless Space.

Ooh, that looks purty. Love a good fantasy 4x. I didn't get that much into Endless Space for some reason, I need to really buckle down and try to get into it.

The flat grey and black UI feels really out of place in a fantasy setting, though.

So EUIV isn't for me. Can't wrap my head around the controls and interface. Back to Teslagrad

Any other Raetikon impressions beside Wok's? I saw a few gameplay videos, looks fun to explore, but I read that it's only about three hours of gameplay right now (and according to what I read, the alpha is "the complete game, except the ending")

That's the one, it looks grand actually. I've always wanted to but never got into any of the 4x fantasy games. I hope this might be the one that cracks that since I did enjoy Endless Space.

The UI design is pretty solid for Dungeon of the Endless. I am the kind of person who really gets put off by crappy UI and UX (probably because that's my job, but still..) and I felt they were good enough for the game. Some of the stuff is buggy or not yet implemented since it is Alpha but it is a good starting point. I didn't put a ton of time into Endless Space but they definitely feel like they are in the same overarching universe.

My turn to ask for Teslagrad help:
I know what I have to do here, but can't seem to make it happen. I obviously have to wait for the roboto crawl on the platform and then raise it up to the ledge, but when the robot is on it, it's too heavy and won't go high enough.

Man why almost every thread I decide to read becomes some sort of fanboy wars? Do you wanna impressions about that game in beta? Too bad it's going to become pages and pages of people (who probably doesn't even bother to read the fucking OP) asking why the price is so high, the same question that was made in the previous pages and already got answers. Same thing happens to lots of threads, the discussion start meaningful and useful then suddenly the thread derails and you read the same stupid questions over and over and over...

Sorry for the rant, back on topic.

Amplitude Studios really want to pass the feel of the games being in the same universe, I'm not planning to buy Dungeon of the Endless now but so far every opinion I did read was positive towards it I just hope they release the exclusive faction (The Vaulters) that comes with the highest tier of the DotE as DLC.

It's safe here, no fanboy war BS to be found. Can't stand that stuff either

I see this a lot in threads and it is incredibly annoying. I don't understand why people come in threads just to shit them up. I got a Wii U recently and the thread for it is a damn happy place but every now and then, someone comes and tries to tell everyone how stupid they are for disagreeing with them. On the flip side, people who are blind fans and white knight for devs even in the face of constructive criticism are almost just as annoying.

Relative to the topic, I always get a kick out of posts with people saying they won't play indie games. Not even checking a game out because it isn't pushed with 50 million dollars in marketing is a hilariously awful opinion. Even in just the last few years, indie games have come such a long way and are delivering amazing experiences not found anywhere else. If this was 5 years ago, I could see blanket statements like that having a little more validity since there was a much worse shit:good ratio but times have changed for the better.

Screw the haters, let's enjoy the christmas Indie season.
And to spread some love and joy, and because we made it to the 2nd phase of the TOP 100 IndieDB 2013 Awards, here are 3 Desura keys. First come first served.

Don't take them if you don't like Pont'n'Click games, we made a very pure old-school one, a tribute to the 80's era. Hell, the game runs at 256x192 don't take a key if you can't stand the low-fi awesomesaucessess :p

Desura keys for Murder in the Hotel Lisbon

You will be dropped into the dreary and mystical Western Washington circa 2400 c.e. with a bow, fishing rod, and little to guide your way. Awaiting you is a vast landscape filled with wildlife, edible plants, and the historical artefacts of our now-dead culture—journals, newspapers, zines, brochures, transcripts, and more. You must spend your fleeting moments moving through this place, collecting what was left behind, and piecing together what happened to these people, both from a historical perspective and from a much more personal one.
Trailer

So it's like a mix of Proteus and Dear Esther, with survival elements

The GOTY Indie game votings are going to be a herculean task. We are not prepared for this.

I've been playing Westerado and I must say the game is simply amazing. I was surprised when I saw the ammount of NPC's in the "city", I know some of them have repeated dialogues but it helps to bring the sense of immersion. Talking about immersion, the colors choose and the superb music helps a lot to keep you "inside" the game.
It's interesting needing to unlock more more clues about your family murderer and the need to guess who may have burnt your ranch.

The shooting mechanic is pretty smart, having to reload each bullet and having to cock your weapon every time you shoot is great and add a layer of challenge, especially when you're in a place full of bandits.

Everybody needs to play it.

Wall of text incoming, but once again Rain World impresses me with its depth of AI

0XEeu6d.gif

Instead of being hardcoded into special behaviours for lizard, players, other pups the pups are able to have a few template attitudes towards other enteties, NEUTRAL, FRIENDLY, FLEE and HOSTILE.

This means that in a situation where you kill one of the pups, the others might consider you something to FLEE from or be HOSTILE towards, and then the same AI as when those behaviors are applied to a lizard can kick in.

Here's a horrible chaotic gif of me and the pups spawning, with the pups having the "HOSTILE" attitude towards me

As you can see the green one is quick to grab a spear and kill me. The others are just trying to flee. You may also notice that the green pup doesn't throw the spear until there are no siblings between it and its target - me.

Now, a situation where the pups are hostile like this likely won't occur in the game, unless you murder one of the pups in front of the others while no lizards are even around. But the same behavior can, as said, be applied to lizards as well.

The pups have different personalities, and the green one is the violent, heroic and brave. When you find them he is holding a spear, and guarding the others. He always wants to carry a spear, and if he doesn't have one he'll pick up whatever weapons he can find around the levels. The HOSTILE behavior is more or less reserved for Green, he is the one responsible for protecting his siblings, and if the player betrays them or if a lizard is carrying a pack mate off towards its den he'll try to use his spear.

It was released recently:

Did you do it yet? I just entered that room so I could try it.

Edit: Wait, I didn't have any trouble. It went straight up to the top when I punched the block below it to make it blue...

Maybe you could ask the guys who are handling the GAF GOTY thread for help. From what I read in the Steam thread, they wrote scripts (think that's the right term) that can collect the votes and rank them, divide them into categories, etc

If you need help, wouldn't mind assisting

I think we'll be 20 people max voting, so thats not the problem.

But compiling a list of 20 games I will vote for and going through 500 games from march to december? Thats going to take a while.

I'm just now starting to get into indie games after building my gaming pc. This thread is incredible. I don't know how I'm going to hold all of these games. That proteus/Dear Esther hybrid looked interesting in particular.

Welcome to the world of indies! You think the games in this thread are great, the games in the other nine threads are on par or even better
