Same way he does in the movies/specials. He doesn't need any weak humans.

The Mewtwo in the movie could go Mega without a trainer.
I saw a rhythm monkey hat in the Mii plaza hat store and immediately thought he would be a great rep, he could have crazy moves like summoning other characters like Karate Joe. Maybe some moves that depend or change based on your rhythm, like Marth's dancing blade, but with a beat behind it.

There are certian levels of popular where pokemon do not have to stick to the rules.
Technically speaking no lucario should just be hanging out, because to have a lucario you need friendship.
So clearly Once you reach Mascot status the rules start bending.

If Sega gets a second rep, it should be Bayonetta. If Sonic gets a second rep, it should be Tails or, arguably, Eggman. Ain't no room for Fake Hedgehogs around here.

Smash is non-canon, so they can do whatever they want as long as it doesn't completely screw with the character.

We have different definitions of the word "drastic", because the main Dark Samus model that is in every game in the Prime trilogy and the most likely form she would take if she was included in Smash, isn't much different looking than Samus.
And of course Sakurai will do whatever he wants, he brought back Toon Link, who I would also argue is visually distinct, but whatever, his inclusion does show that Sakurai isn't opposed to characters sharing traits. I think Toon Link looks good in the game, but I wasn't really rooting for his return, and I feel the same about Dr. Mario. At least my opinion is consistent, and it is consistently irrelevant to Sakurai.
At least we agree that Ridley should be the #2 Metroid rep.
It was a throw away comment to a discussion that happened a couple posts ago on the last page. I didn't mean to frighten anybody.

Legendary Pokemon can bend the rules I guess. In the games you don't really need a bond to mega evolve either, my boxed Mewtwo mega evolved just fine.
That reminds me I would like Shadow in, he already was an assist trophy.

Bayonetta would be amazing, and would fit better than Snake I would argue. Although I don't think she has much of a chance - I find it difficult to see Sakurai adding a character who both fights partially by declothing and whose main weapon is four firearms, even if they're bright red and a bit cartoony.
In general, I would argue that third party franchises really shouldn't ever have more than one rep. I'm generally not one for "Nintendo purism"... but I don't think any franchise can really justify it, even Sonic or Mega Man. So on the off chance that we did get a second Sega rep, and if Bayonetta was vetoed by Sakurai, I would like to see another non-Sonic character, like perhaps NiGHTS or AiAi.

Since I think Little Mac is in the game I will pick some characters that would genuinely surprise and excite me.
Ridley (it is long overdue)
Captain Syrup (argh!)
King K. Rool (the main DK baddie)
Ashley and Red (a lot of potential)
Duck Hunt Dog (hysterical laughter)
Dark Samus looks completely different between Prime 2 and 3. In Prime 2 Retro seemed to be going with a more feral design with claws and veins and ribs and other organic details, while in Prime 3 they switched to a more sleek and compact one. The color also changed; while it's not clear from the concept art, Metroid Prime 2 Dark Samus is black (Or a very dark blue) with blue highlights, while Metroid Prime 3 Dark Samus is a much paler and brighter. Oh, and Prime 3 Dark Samus doesn't have a tiny head. That's certainly an improvement.
The only model that was a Samus recolor was the Phazon Suit hand at the end of Metroid Prime.
I think everyone agrees on that.

Blaze would add another female character to the cast and she has her own Super form too.
Though I haven't played Sonic 06', her character may have changed.
Although it will never happen, I still feel like Bayonetta would be a great character. Imo, she's full of charisma, style, and her moveset would be incredible. They could always adjust some things if they really wanted her in like converting the bullets to laser shots ala the Bazillions.
It has to be Knuckles. Who else would offer us the greatest video game soundtracks of all time?

Yes, her suit details do change throughout the trilogy but her main form throughout is that of Samus. Bringing up her final form in Echoes isn't relevant to the discussion because generally it is not how the character is visually represented, and when talking about a potential inclusion to the roster, Sakurai is most likely to pick her "main" design, which overall isn't much more than a darker colored Samus with different suit details that most people wouldn't even notice.
You would be surprised. People that are bent on the size issue have made plenty of justifications for characters that aren't named Ridley.
