Very nice. I was kind of interested in this game because of the 4 vs 4 in it. Is it cross-play? Cross-buy?

I don't think it's cross-buy, not sure about the cross-play, that would be nice...

Demo on tuesday I think. Hope it looks good!

Btw any farming simulator fans in here that will admit to it? Relaxing? Get what you wanted out of it?

Don't be put off by the other threads too much guys, Vita is the absolute best.
Already knew this since last year.

Still making my way through soul sacrifice. What a fantastic game to just break out and play a couple of rounds. Love the lore and the universe and the silky controls. I like it way more than mh3p and god eater.

Not sure if it's a farming simulator but I am addicted to Rune Factory and Harvest Moon. Definitely relaxing the first time I have played one. I never expected it to be quite addicting. I'm in love with the genre now.

They're putting a demo on the US store for the DBZ game. Good sign hopefully.
hopefully it's a good game... though the only way i will be buying it on the vita would be if namco said "if we sell x copies of the dbz game we will bring over the new sword art online vita game" (i might end up buying it on the ps3 sometime if it's a good game though)

I bought it for the trophies but I really ended up enjoying it. Light on content for sure, but it was quite relaxing to play in little bursts. Still need to grind for the plat tho lol.

Coming from one of the hugest To the Moon fans out there (I even registered for their official forums to talk about the game), I don't understand this. What would you do with such a port? I mean, I played the game twice (once by myself, once with my girlfriend), but after that? You replay it over and over?

I mean, I would pay good money for Vita ports of games with lots of replay value (FTL, Spelunky, Dustforce, Don't Starve, that kind of things) but much as I love To the Moon, the PC version has serviced me more than enough.
That's fine for you, but I'd love to play it again on Vita.

I've played flower through a ton of times and many argue it has no replay value, and some argue it sucks. So I really don't care.

Yes! I've never played it, but I really want to, so I've just been holding out hope that they bring it over to the Vita eventually. Though I Googled it once, and I think the devs said they didn't have the resources to port it over.
A looooong time ago I tweeted Shahid about it and he said he talked to them about it. That's all that I got and all that was.

Wish they'd team up with Curve to do it. Curve does excellent ports. Not sure what sort of business arrangements that entails though. So some indies may not opt for that method.

Still, some of the haters are having a bit too much fun at vita fans' expense, lot of nothing.

They're putting DBZ demo on Vita? I am suprised.

Same here, hope it's good.

The Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z demo will include the first 4 missions from the final game’s single player campaign as well as online normal battle with the option for 8 player co-op or a battle mode with 2 players in teams of 4. Data and trophies will be transferable from the demo to the full game.

I checked those out as they sound pretty relaxing yeah but the only one on the EU store is Harvest Moon: Hero of Leaf Valley at £12...? Bit pricey. Might have to look into it some more.

Haven't seen it but what are the chances they'd make that sort of promise :P Looking forward to hearing impressions and seeing vids of the demo hopefully. I think there is a PS3 demo coming too on tuesday as well.

Does sound tempting...only short bursts? Can't zone out to it? Could you elaborate what you mean by the content btw - not too expensive here but not quite instant buy...

.

Oh it's very unlikely they would make a promise like that... the only relationship to the dbz game is the sword art online game is an anime based game that namco owns the rights to lol. They aren't even the same genre, the sword art game is a rpg. I''m mostly just hoping that namco shows the vita a bit more love, but if i got the dbz game it would be to play with one of my friends who owns a ps3 and not a vita, thus I won't be getting the game on the vita unless it goes free on ps+ sometime.

Seems you are right - not really cross-play:

Hashimoto-san mentions players can play the game on PS Vita, and then carry over their save to the PS3 and resume playing on a bigger screen. While it wasn’t specifically mentioned, we assume players will need to have both PS Vita and PS3 versions of the game.

First two weeks - PS3
Last two weeks - Vita

It's like this every single month.

Sure is. Hasn't changed since the last 400 people asked that question.

Seems you are right - not really cross-play:

Cross-save/Transfarring is more like it.

Organizing my bubbles. There are way too many useless icons. I can't even fit all of the default Vita ones in one bubble.

I find that 8 are useful and are allowed to roam freely in my "I don't use bubbles" utopia. 9 if you count wake up club.
I find that there are 10 I consider utterly useless at this point and they have been relegated to the very last page in the only folder I will allow, so as to remove them all from my view.

Basically there's not much to do, which is why I enjoyed it in say, 15-30min sessions. You plant one of three crops, wait for it to grow, harvest it and then sell it. Sometimes an objective pops up, which is just a fetch quest. So you're really only doing the same thing over and over again to get money. Its simplicity is it's biggest shortcoming.

PSP is not dead. A tease for Gaijinwork's next title will be featured in the premiere issue of Retro magazine, due out sometime late this month/early next month. While they're doing Class of Heroes 3 for PSP, this tease won't be for that game.

Any clue what that game could be?

Where'd you hear that? Apart from Victor teasing it repeatedly.

Je ne parle francais.

The only thing I get from that is sony isn't paying for unity licences?

Pretty much. The reason it's a problem is that Nintendo, and Microsoft are subsidizing the costs of the Unity license with their devkits.

Where'd you hear that? Apart from Victor teasing it repeatedly.

Vic said the tease would in Retro on Twitter, and then clarified the situation on the Gaijinworks forums. That's where he revealed that the tease wouldn't be for Class of Heroes 3, or Valkyria Chronicles 3, and Suikoden.

Oh, and since you're here:

So… you worked on Fate/Extra and I heard that Fate/Extra CCC was being shopped around to publishers… can you say if Aksys is working on this at all?

Hmm… I heard about the game and it was released in Japan. Fate/Extra is a great game and I highly recommend everybody pick it up, but don’t start with Caster unless you like frustration for the first hour of the game. And my answer is: yes, I like curry very much.

This is certainly a blow to indies on PlayStation platforms.

My French isn't great, but from what I can make out it seems that the article is saying that Sony requires different Unity development licenses for Vita, PS3, and PS4? As in, if you want to develop for PS4 and PS Vita for example, then you have to pay for separate licenses for both platforms, rather than pay a single fee that lets you develop on all of them as you want?

Yeah. That doesn't seem real cool.

Wouldn't that requirement be coming from Unity and not Sony?

That's vile.

As much as I enjoy seeing Takao's posts I'm really starting to think that he would benefit from a more fitting avatar. May I suggest one showing the grim reaper going after a Vita?

;)

I was actually wondering the same thing, but then I read the posts earlier that said that Nintendo and Microsoft apparently already include those costs in their fees? Maybe Sony's development fees are cheaper than their competitors but they have to "pass along" certain licensing fees (such as Unity licenses) by doing things like having separate licenses for Vita, PS3, and PS4? I'm just asking questions - I don't know myself.

I somehow don't think Sony feels the same. Its reception in japan was also tepid. I think japan is the testing ground for the device, and it failed.
Somehow, I think you're right. Let's be optimistic though. The Vita support in west needs all the help it can get. Also, it's not like roku type devices are popular in Japan.

This.

He doesn't deserve his cute avatar. A skull is more befitting.

I doubt vita tv will release in the west actually. 64gb memory seems like a surer bet.

Well, CCC is a PSP game, unless by some miracle it gets a Vita port... I'm worried that CCC's ship has long since sailed.

Fate/Extra did sell pretty well though, or so I heard.

Why not? These types of things are all over in the west. Sure that means more competition, but PS Vita TV has a lot going for it that the others never will.

Plus, PS4 remote play doesn't exist for it in Japan... for obvious reasons. So part of it's purpose is simply not there.

Rebrand it PlayStation TV. Advertise that it plays PSone, PSP, select Vita games. Advertise it's PS4 streaming, and advertise the apps (Netflix, etc).

A Vita port is welcomed. The Fate ship will forever sail.

It is a good game and had the Fate name so it's to be expected.

Exactly.

Did some digging, and Vic said this at Gaijinworks' MB:

This speculation is closest to the mark, but it will be a bit more, just not Suikoden or VC3 (though we're still pushing to try to make something happen with both of those). One of them will have first-of-its-kind-in-the-wild tech for PSP/Vita to my knowledge. Ken's been working overtime to do something really cool that wasn't in the Japanese release. As with many things I did at WD, when other RPG companies see this, it will be copied. I guarantee it.

Hmm.

Takao, doesn't this deserve its own thread?

famousmortimer said on the NDP thread that Sony is looking for a way to bring Vita TV overseas, so I think it is pretty much a given it is coming.

Also, considering the tremendously positive reception of the PS4 in the west, I'd be surprised if Sony didn't push the Vita TV here at least as an accessory for it.

It wouldn't have to sell much to sell well considering all they did was translate the text and didn't do VA. I hope it does come west, it was pretty decent all things considered.

famousmortimer edited his post to take out all his commentary on the Vita. I'm not sure if that is supposed to be his way of backtracking on it.

I'd like to offer my thanks to all of you that kept endlessly repeating how awesome Spelunky is. I can't stop playing this bastardly game now. Somehow the demo just rubbed me the wrong way the first time I played it but after reading all the hype from VitaGAF I decided to download the demo again and give it another go. It really clicked with me that second time and then I bought the full game. Not sure what my problem was before - maybe I was just having one of those days but I'm glad I gave it a second chance.

For anyone even remotely on the fence about picking it up before it goes off of its current sale - GIVE IT ANOTHER CHANCE and do NOT judge it before you get out of the tutorial. Keep in mind that the randomness/rogue-like nature of the game is a very strong part of its charm. And go into it with the mindset that you WILL die! It is simply a matter of what you actually do and how far you can make it until you meet your death. Its not really a game you can "win" (at least, not without being much much better a player than I ever will be) and not if, but when you die, just laugh, take a Vita screen shot (like I do for posterity), and then.... start another game!

It really is an adorable little f
ucker
of a game.

Vita bros help a fellow bro out, is there anyway to get music unlimited to run in the background while playing games? It seems like its possible considering it does it for about half a second before pausing. D:

I believe you need to make an offline playlist. Not sure how to do that, unfortunately.

Bringing Vita TV over will only bring focus to how poor Vita's app selection is in North America. It's not in a position to battle Chromecast, and Roku.

Yeah, probably.

I don't believe the problem stems from having separate licenses. I know that Nintendo does include a free Unity license for Wii U if you buy that platform's devkit from them. It's why Wii U is almost always one of the platforms listed in Kickstarter campaigns. I don't follow Microsoft's dealings enough to know, but apparently they're offering a similar solution for XB1. It was hoped that Sony would follow, but they aren't. A Vita Unity license is $5000, with the PS3 and PS4 licenses costing $15k. I believe that's above the price of each platform's devkit.

I'd make a thread, but like you, my French is pretty horrible.

Do you have the newest version of MU? http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=727381

Hasn't Sony been loaning out devkits to indies?

I believe you need to make an offline playlist. Not sure how to do that, unfortunately.
They added streaming to it awhile ago in an update.

So it should work now.

I'm sure offline is more reliable though. It's been awhile since I've made stuff available offline, but I'll grab my Vita really quick.

"To make music available offline, open the options menu for the playlistin My Library you want, then select [Available Offline]."

Ignoring that it plays games and streams PS4.

I really think it will be worth to release it just as a ps4 extender.
I plan on getting the vita tv when it's released here so I can stream my ps4 to the bedroom from the living room, and play a few MP vita games on it... that is all I need it for.

It might not sell a ton here, but it's definitely more suited for places not named japan.

I can see a future for the vita tv as a component to be packages inside Sony TVs...

Just throw one in - if they can sell the things for $100 then they cost fuck all to make.

Sync up a DS3 or 4 and the vita catalogue gets some extra life.
