Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 3: Ridley's Believe It or Not!

I really enjoy the contrast between Rosalina and Luma's relationship with Peach and Toad's.

Says a lot about them as individuals.

Well toad is her body guard.

What Rosalina does is child abuse.

Actually her beating on any mario and Kirby characters would be child abuse.

In hindsight, Rosalina is doing child abuse.

Is it? Are Luma(s?) children? Either way, Luma is at least doing Rosalina's bidding willingly and with some level of glee (unless that wand as untold mind control powers). Peach is just openly using her subordinate as cannon fodder. She's more like Bowser than she realizes.

In the end it's okay, because Toad abuse is both fictional and hilarious.

Wee.

ooooooh man

I'm confused, Luma is just a puppet controlled by Rosalina right? Sakurai's caption seemed to suggest we could switch control over to Luma which is what confused me.

Bearing in mind my limited knowledge of Mario Galaxy lore, isn't Rosalina more of a benevolent cosmic entity? More the cosmos itself than an actual corporeal being? How could we assume that our code of ethics or morality even touch base with a being who sees and understands reality on such a vast level? Yes, she has some sort of physical form as some means of entertainment, but even in that form you can see a lack of empathy or normal human emotion. Any smile or wince she produces appears to me to be no more than a form of mimicry, as if she can only attempt to understand the feelings of man. She is like the Dr. Manhattan of the Mario universe.

I played Galaxy like 6 years ago.

If we are talking marvel goods, he would be super high level. She essentially feeds galactus.

But she is a motherly figure. So it appears that she cares, and to be honest, he babies turn into planets so I am sure they can get roughed up a bit. They dense and tough.

And she could just I dunno trap everyone in a black hole, so she is just slap boxing. Friendly bout.

Peach is an abuser

They're saving Captain Falcon for E3 when they announce a new F-Zero, right?

Oh god, I've been around this thread too long.

P.S. Rosalina's final smash should be GIANT SPACE GOD WITH BABY NOISES

Lumas are her creation and they call her "Mama".

So yeah. :P

Think of Stands in Jojo.

Based on the latest caption, here’s how I think Rosalina & Luma’s Standard Special Move works:

Standard Special Move - Luma Summon
If your Luma has been killed, use this to summon a new one. If you already have a Luma, hold down B and move the control stick to change the Luma’s location on the stage.

It also appears that Luma has its own full move set — when Rosalina does an attack, Luma attacks as well, no matter his position on the stage. You technically get to decide which character you want to “play as” at any given time.

Been playing Awakening lately, and it's killing me that we probably won't know the second Fire Emblem character for a long time, considering we just got Marth.

SPOILER
Also, I'm hoping for Lucina, since we've never had a playable female FE character. That said, would she be too similar to Marth? Does his inclusion hurt her chances?

I realized how fucking old me and my friends are and how split the Smash Bros audience is. Me and my friends grew up starting at atari and nintendo I stuck around with Nintendo for the most part but my friend started losing interest in first party titles but would get Nintendo consoles for some 3rd party games before things went to complete hell for Wii U with 3rd parties.

I told him that Rosalina was announced and he was like "Who the fuck is Rosalina?" He looked up the video and still wasn't sure just guessed that she was some extra Mario character. Just the opposite of the kids today scratching their heads at Mach Rider haha.

SPOILER

Wouldn't mind that and shes better than Chrom, but she's really not insanely vital to the plot. Just a really strong support character. You'll see towards the end. The whole time travel thing is mostly novelty really.

Since it's been blatantly spoiled multiple times in here, I won't wrap that FE Awakening spoiler in tags. :P
I would say that, after male Wii Fit Trainer, an alt costume for Marth to be Lucina is certainly within the realms of possibilities.

I grew up with Atari, C64, Amiga etc. - I didn't even know what a Nintendo was until the superlate days of the NES, and early days of SNES. I would consider myself quite old as well in terms of "gamer age", and geared towards older games, still (I've caught up with the missing early childhood of NES games since, even as an older kid/teen, I just got it very late).

I know nostalgia is very important to a lot of people, but Smash, luckily (imo), is not only a celebration of the past, it's a celebration of Nintendo as a whole. That includes more recent games and series, and Rosalina is one of the most important personifications of the more recent Nintendo.

She hails from a more recent game, but not one that's its own franchise, and a game that is considered being one of the best of the entire series by most people. I don't think I've heard of anyone considering Mario Galaxy to be a bad game.
The character herself has since become significantly more popular than other Mario characters, even ones that are older. I think she's an absolutely great character to have in the Smash series, alone for the fact that her moveset seems absolutely fantastic and novel, but also because she's a representation of Nintendo's more recent history - much like the Villager and Wii Fit Trainer are.

Most of the classic characters have already been included into the series, as well. And believe me, while your friends might be older and not know who Rosalina is, I guarantee you, there are significantly more people who know who she is, but never heard of Mach Rider, let alone Takamaru (since those are 2 characters your brought up before).

I don't think Marth really has any bearing on Lucina's chances given they are both distinct characters, but we'll see.

Would Lucina fans be disappointed if she was an alt. for Marth and the alt. changed his voice to hers? I've never played Awakening so I don't know how much she differentiates from Marth.

Not sure how'd I'd react, but anyway her "Marth" disguise was just that. If anything she would mirror Chrom more given how she has the same fighting style as him. I think Chrom being playable would be far more damaging, but if that's the case I would sooner see her as an alt for Chrom rather than Marth.

Lucina's animations were mostly based on Marth's (from the NES/SNES games, not Smash Bros'). They aren't identical to his Smash ones, but they're still fairly close since both are different takes on the same source.

The one I'm hoping for is the Avatar. One costume for each gender like WiiFit Trainer, standard Tactician or Grand Master class, sword and magic attacks. Default design could be Awakening's deault designs for the male and female avatars, with the alternate colors changing their hair colors too.

If the villager could make it in, in spite of being customizable, I don't see what would be the problem with the avatar.

Not sure how'd I'd react, but anyway her "Marth" disguise was just that. If anything she would mirror Chrom more given how she has the same fighting style as him.

The dialogue says that they share the same fighting style, but they don't really share the same animations. Chrom's animations aren't based on Marth's, unlike Lucina's.

Fans hoping for female character representation from Fire Emblem would do better by betting on Anna rather than Lucina.

Why? Anna's been nothing but a shop keeper until Awakening where she was a minor optional unit. Only female FE character I'd put any stock in besides Lucina is Lyn.

I really want Little Mac, but I'd like Takamaru for the Famicom Disk system team to be complete. Don't really see why he wasn't included yet unless Nintendo isn 't letting Sakurai be added.

Also... Ever since this...

Yeah, Anna doesn't seem like she's really focused on combat enough to be a viable entrant.

I'd be fine with Chrom making it and taking Ike's place. They're both pretty beefy and he could even yell "Aether" all the time. He's got blue hair and a sword; most people wouldn't even know the difference.

I present to you - Exhibit A:
NstWjbC.jpg

We're talking about Fire Emblem, a game almost exclusively comprised of characters that do nothing but kill people with swords and axes. I don't really see the shopkeeper getting picked over someone crucial to the main arc like Lucina.

What makes you think Anna would be picked?

I think it's safe to say the cat is out of the bag concerning all of the spoilers revolving around Lucina, so I think she has a good chance as a female rep, and if not, as a alternate skin for Marth.

We've got several series like that, too. Mario, at least at the core, is a series based on a vigilante rescuing a princess from an evil dragon turtle monster. He also stomps a shitload of that turtle's soldiers or burns them alive, or more recently has gotten plenty more ways to brutally murder them such as freezing them.

Yet, of the set of people included to represent that series, was the princess that keeps on getting kidnapped, as well as the protagonist dressed up as a doctor, which is a job classification based on the opposite of what he usually does (healing as opposed to waging a one-man-war).

The Zelda series is in an more similar boat than Mario (although Zelda has been shown to be capable of fighting - but it never was directly as protagonist).

If you want to draw lines to other series, Phoenix Wright is also a prime example of a fighter that's obviously not meant to fight, but he's still in Marvel vs. Capcom, among super heroes, super villains, demons, trained soldiers/fighters etc.

Point being - even though that particular character might not use a sword or an axe doesn't mean they're not "viable" choice. Exactly the same notion has come directly out of Sakurai's mouth for Brawl in regards to the Villager. That's why I'm mentioning this character first. Sakurai himself has gone on the record before and said that a character was hard to make work because of them not being combat-oriented enough. Now look who we've got. And the same can be said about Wii Fit Trainer as well, since her moveset isn't directly offensive in nature. She accidentally hits people with her yoga moves.

What makes you think Anna would be picked?

I have no idea about the FE series as a whole, I only played one installment of it. I just am contesting the notion that a character's purpose in the original series not being combative doesn't mean they'd be excluded.

Also, I don't know if Anna would be picked. I can't look into Sakurai's head after all. It could be just as likely that he thinks that the shopkeep character is a more interesting addition because she has more potential for a fun moveset than any of the sword users, perhaps.

Ah, cool pic of the day. So it seems like you can separate them, and then the Luma mirrors what Rosalina does. I wonder how you control separation...and if Rosalina has a "callback" move to get the Luma back to her.

As of Awakening, Anna also kills people, in addition to her role as shopkeep / suspend game / multiplayer stuff. So that point is moot.
Anna is sort of like the FE series mascot - she has appeared in more games than even the frontline hero Marth. After Marth, the character who most embodies "Fire Emblem" is definitely Anna.
Lucina is barely any more relevant than any other random Awakening Child Character X. Story-wise, she gets like one or two chapters of relevance. She's not really crucial to the main story arc - rather, she's there to introduce the rather unimportant side-story of time travel kids. Any other kid, like Morgan or Inigo, could have done the role just as well. Lucina's only real point is being featured in the marketing, but she was "Marth" there - that's not relevance of her, but of Marth.
