Rosalina AND LUMA Confirmed For Smash Bros!

So can someone give me their best theory of how Luma works in relation to Rosalina? It looks like the player conjures up a Luma with Rosalina's neutral special (what I'll call the "B button" for the purposes of this discussion), but how does the player set Luma's position?

Does the player press/tap the B button again to maneuver Luma into position, setting its distance in relation to Rosalina? Or do Rosalina's Smash Attacks project Luma farther away from herself, and it maintains its position there?

We can see that the Luma has essentially two modes, one where it sticks with Rosalina and makes her attacks stronger, and one where he extends as a puppet character. You probably toggle them with Side-B.

Neutral B would actually work fine for a toggle, since otherwise it would become useless once Luma is out. So neutral B spawns Luma, and then once Luma is on the field, it changes Luma between "far" and "close" stances. Hmm...

So, regarding the move in this GIF:

I'm guessing once she's conjured up a Luma with B, she can tap Forward B to go into "control mode" where she can quickly move the Luma into position, and then it will mimic her moves from there? And perhaps tapping B again will draw the Luma back to her side?

Took me a moment to parse through that height comparison image. It's hard to tell, since the first and last shots seem zoomed differently, but it looks like Rosalina -might- be the height of Bowser.

Cosmic goddess gonna goddess, I guess.

On a side note, I'm not even fully sure how it works, but the move where Rosalina sends Luma spiraling forward, and then the two proceed to coordinate their attacks from a distance looks incredibly satisfying.

Hmmm interesting, I was kind of assuming the luma's movements would be semi AI-controlled, whereas its attacks mimicked yours. This makes some sense, but it would be challenging to execute properly though.

Figured I'd leave this in the official Rosalina thread.

Rosalina seems to be absolutely enormous.

That first picture has peach and bowser standing farther back into the depth of the shot. They aren't lined up on the same plane.

I really don't expect her to be that big, certainly not any bigger than Ganon.

I still think its attacks mimic yours, I'm just saying Rosalina can control the distance Luma moves forward in relation to herself. Or at least, it appears that way.

In the trailer, when she and Luma double-team Pit, she starts by flinging Luma forward. I imagine she does this with Forward B, or perhaps by holding B again once Luma is conjured, to move Luma away from her or closer to her. Luma then mimics all of her attacks. So if you're dealing with someone on one side of Battlefield and you want to edge-block someone trying to recover on the other side, you could keep attacking on one side while the Luma you sent out does the same on the other. You could hold down the fort in multiple areas at once. Alternatively, you could draw Luma closer and it can guard your backside while you fight someone else, or it can pinball an opponent sandwiched in-between you and Luma.

We see all of this in the trailer, and I think that's how it works: You conjure up Luma, you set its distance with B or Forward B (propelling it forward or pulling it back), and then it mimics all of your movements (as we can see with the up-smash in the Pit bit).

Also, making Rosalina tall compared to Peach or Zelda makes it easy to tell them apart in addition to the appearance details.

Regarding the movement, if I recall correctly all the animations did seem to indicate that as long as neither is stunned or knocked around, the luma mirrors Rosalina's movements (jumping, crawling, etc.)

.

Not necessarily, I'm pretty sure they're on the same plane. How else are they going to attack each other. Both players need to be on the same plane in order to fight. Even if it was the case it wouldn't be too far back to make a difference,

If people are right about Luma then it really seems like Rosey is built mainly for 1v1. If she is as complicates as some believe and Luma really is her core then I just think she wil get hammered in a 1 v 2 or 2 v 2.

Yes I saw her attacking both Mario and Luigi. I just get the feeling she will crumble against two good players. Though I hope she will be a monster in the pro Smash.

What exactly is Peach doing to the Wii Fit Trainer?
It looks like an idle or taunt animation where Peach adjusts her gloves.

The real question is why would Sakurai snap a picture of Peach in that pose, where it looks like she's blatantly touching Wii Fit Trainer's butt.

Maybe it's supposed to look like one of those chains people do at parties.

I never understood the BBW joke in MK7's OT title.

Now I get it, kinda. Even if she's basically tall and not fat. :P

Don't know anything about the character except that she was in Galaxy but her design is okay. It's nice to see new people in the roster at least.

any chance Daisy might get in?

That's an adorable picture. I love both Rosalina and Daisy. I kinda pegged either her or Waluigi to get a spot to represent Kart and the short spinoffs, now I think Rosalina, Sakurai might find her redundant and lean toward Waluigi if he thinks the Mario spinoffs deserve a slot.

Yeah, it looks like Luma always mimics your moves. Then Forward B would fling Luma forward (maybe even doing damage). And then once separated, you can "remote control" another fighter by doing moves that Luma will mimic.

Flinging Luma off cliffs to edgeguard is gonna be fun.

If I could, I'd post both Rosalina and Peach's in-game SMG models to compare them but I'm not aware of SMG's file system to do that.

In any case, Rosalina is actually that tall in SMG, or at least somewhat shorter. She is very tall, probably taller than Samus. You also have to remember that it represents her powerful authority figure.

In Mario Kart Wii she's about the same height, but you can't really tell as she's always hunched in a kart or a bike, and her biker outfit gives an odd representation. She, like many other characters, are downsized in Mario Kart 7 however.

Rosalina can become a giant as Bowser has done over the years.

Seeing as Daisy is essentially a Peach re-skin with very few unique defining qualities, I'd say no.
Hey, you never know. A lot of people dismissed Rosalina using the same logic. If Sakurai for whatever reason wanted to put in Daisy, he could make it work and he could make her unique.

I'm not counting on her, though. Sakurai probably wants to spread the newcomer lover across multiple franchises. Right now I'm wondering who a potential Zelda newcomer might be. Perhaps he'll revisit the Toon Zelda idea it appears he worked on for Brawl (but hopefully replace Toon Sheik with Tetra). Or maybe he'll add Ghirahim -- distinctive fellow that would fit in with Skyloft on the WiiU version, at least.

And those people are crazy. In her source material, Rosalina is a cosmic goddess who wields a magic wand and commands the Lumas. In Daisy's source material, she's a regular human damsel in distress.
