Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 3: Ridley's Believe It or Not!

...and we're done. Yeah, he seems to be hell bent on comparing Lucario as a "sonic furry" or something.

Really all that's needed is someone to say "Lucario is GameFreak's Lightning" and it will become full circle.

Cynthia is GameFreak's Lightning
Lucario is one of Cynthia's main Pokemon
therefore, Lucario is also GameFreak's Lightning
checkmate

:P
(amidoinitrite)
(yes this would make more sense for Garchomp)

You could say Cynthia is Masuda's Lightning but GF as a whole Lucario is their Lightning, so they made a compromise! :P

Mega Charizard X did.

Ah. Well... he can be a costume for Charizard X then :P (or he just transforms for the Triple Finish).

Also, what if Mewtwo's FS worked like Samus'? He Mega Evolves into Mewtwo Y, then uses Psystrike, leaving you as MY. Different moveset, and then MY's FS will revert him back to regular Mewtwo for whatever reason.

Says the man bent on comparing Lucario to a space princess.

But it is apt.

Both are new (relatively) characters who have gotten popular enough to warrant being notable and familiar. They are not merely "a new pokemon" or "a new Toad NPC"

But it is apt.

Hopefully Rosalina & Luma alludes that Pokemon Trainer will take a more action-oriented role as a character.
He shouldn't; Pokemon Trainer is an honorable competitor. He only cheats when the bloodthirst from a Smash Ball overwhelms his senses.

Hence why I suggested the Rocket Grunt.

The more I see people discussing who should be the next Pokemon representative the more I want Pokkén to be real =(

We deserve a full pokemon version of smash

in a sense his sonic comparison was apt.

Dat Shadow-itis.

Eh, how is it Shadow-itis? It's not like a whole game is being dedicated towards him or something. This is no different from Charizard getting special mentions.

On a related note, since we're playing with GIFs, might as well post this as an apt reaction since apparently the person can only communicate with images when cornered and unable to form coherent thoughts.

I'd prefer Mewtwo back over Lucario even though they can both potentially return but only because of their Mega Forms still making them relevant in the current pokémon generation.

I still think Sylveon should be the sixth gen rep for Smash though.

One of the worst parts of Smash discussion is when people who aren't interested in Pokemon TALK about playable Pokemon in Smash.

If we don't get Zelda on the 26th, then hopefully we get Dedede or Meta Knight on January 11th.
We're going to get Yuno from Hidamari Sketch on 11/01 because that's the date the first episode is set on. Watch this space!

So I mentioned Rosalina was a new Smash character to a couple friends who are casual Smash players and they go "Who?" and I tell them the princess from Mario Galaxy and they still don't know. Granted the only newcomer they recognized was Villager and Mega Man (due to 8-bit icon status) to a lesser extent. I guess that is the beauty of Smash, to be introduced to a bunch of new characters you never knew you wanted and coming to love them. Case in point one of the most popular characters for that group is Marth despite having no clue what Fire Emblem is.

It does make me wonder what recognizable characters will be introduced in this game. I think Wario, Diddy, Pokemon Trainer, Sonic, and Snake were pretty well known last time around. Pac-Man and (as much as I hate to say this) Mii are pretty well known too as far as potential characters.

Not just lucario but rosalina

Its not a concept unique to shadow, however I use shadow for the name because its video game related and a really strong case of it. Its not bad either.

Its basically

" OH SHIT , everybody likes this guy, lets put them in fucking everything"

and then someone complains why waluigi isn't in all the things, or whatever pokemon. While that character gets in all things.

and in lucario's case they went a step further

Hey lets try and make another one
Silver/ Zoroark

Oh.. wait that didn't work.

6th Pokemon character should be this dude.

Unlike Pokemon Trainer, the Rocket Grunt doesn't play by the rules: He fights on the battlefield with his whip and stun prod and gangs up on you with his Pokemon

You forgot to mention that he has low leveled pokemon.

The thing is they overdo it in Sonic. They don't handle it well.

You can pretty much avoid seeing Lucario if you want to. Only time he was unavoidable was in XY and even then it was only from a single plotpoint. As for Zoroark, that one was more of mishandling than anything else (yeah, let's make Zorua a timed event!). When they learned their mistake it was too late. That and Shadow and that white hedgehog thing all suffer from Sonic palette syndrome whereas Lucario and Zoroark are distinctly different.

And like I said, it's not just Lucario. They do it all the time with popular mons like Zard and Clefairy.

Thing is, the Lucario hate is merely a vocal minority. The actual Pokemon fanbase (i.e. kids) really enjoy the character and he was marketed properly. He can't be the buzzword "Lightning". Same thing with Rosalina even.

SSB64 featured the biggest Nintendo A-listers, Melee added a handful of major characters that missed out on the first game, and Brawl was mostly successful in filling in the holes. Being on the fourth entry fifteen years later, there just aren't any super recognizable characters left that haven't already been featured in an earlier entry.

The most significant newcomers are only going to get less important as the series progresses.

SSB64 - Mario, Donkey Kong, Link, etc.
Melee - Bowser, Peach, Zelda; less important than the above
Brawl - Wario, Pokémon Trainer, Diddy Kong; less important than the above

Your right and I think this will be Smash 4 (and future entries) biggest problem when the pool of characters that elicit a "whoa _______ is playable?" gets smaller and smaller. I think it is important in that sense to make the original cast feel new again, but at the same time that may result in a backlash from the same kind of people I was talking about.

They have and will continue to use them as buzzwords, epically lucario.

The thing about buzz phrases is that they don't have to make sense. Nor do they have to be used for an unpopular party.

Like sonic recolor.

It makes NO sense, put it is regurgitated, and sonic games( sans lost world for obvious reasons) and characters like shadow and sonic still do well and get requests. Like I said Dat Shadow itis.

Mainly because I dislike clones and the fact that I think Krystal has potential. I don't really care for her as a character.

You people consider Wolf a clone though, how would Crystal be any different? Her normals would be completely unique, but she'd just blast from her staff, user her staff to charge, etc. She could easily fit the same format as the other Starfox characters even if she got her staff (which she never actually used in game aside from Adventures' intro sequence - as soon as she's on the ground, with the player controlling her, there's no staff).

Its basically

" OH SHIT , everybody likes this guy, lets put them in fucking everything"

And yet Rosalina was ignored by the NSMB series and took years to actually start consistently getting in spin offs outside of Mario Kart. Personally, I've always thought it was odder that many Mario spin offs for a while seemed to ignore the Galaxy games.
